It all boils down to whether a natural process can cause a resistive short such that (i) the computer doesn't pick that it has occurred; and (ii) that the resistive short acts to accelerate the vehicle. It is amazing that Toyota's engineers and Exponent's engineers aren't aware of a naturally occurring process that can cause a resistive short in tin plated or soldered electronics. Such resistive short circuits due to "tin whiskers" have been found in Toyota's accelerator pedals!!!!!

Gilbert was absolutely correct - he is not changing the circuit - he simply applied a fault condition to one of the accessible leads. This is standard practice in any FMEA process, and Exponent was very stupid to come out and defend Toyota. Exponent, more than anybody in this business should have realized that somewhere in that ECU the signal trace may route next to a fault in PCB, component, or chassis that generates the same condition.

I personally believe Toyota is taking WAY too much heat for their problems, in spite of the fact that I'll admit that their quality has slipped in recent years.

I researched it a little, and I found out that this "SSS" includes things like ABS, ESP [or Vehicle Stability Control to the Japanese], EBD, and Brake Assist. When I found out about this I couldn't believe it. While it took this massive recall to make these things standards in Toyota's. The Germans have has these things standard for a long time. tsk tsk Toyota.

Which can automatically account as a higher package. Now some of these features are standard in pretty much every car.

Who is the cheapest and who has the most to offer. Thus, when Toyota starts with those commercials it makes it sound like other car manufacturers don't have those systems, when in reality they were the last to join the band wagon, but people don't do enough research to know that. That's what I don't like.
