In addition, the book written by Gregory Maguire was modeled after the book "The Wizard of Oz" by Frank L. Baum, and not necessarily the film. As such, there are certain contradictions between the book "Wicked", and the movie "The Wizard of Oz". It makes sense to base the musical Wicked on the movie form, since more people have seen the movie than read the book. If they based it on the book, people may point out that certain things don't make sense in the musical.

To mrc: yes, the musical does stray from the book, but do NOT talk bad about it until after you've seen it. A plot synopsis cannot possibly offer the experience that the musical can.

I read Wicked long before I knew there was a musical. I'm sure the music and the performances are great, but I hate how Wicked is famous for being a musical and not a book. I also read a synopsis of the play and the changes they made from the book were pretty bad. I hope that if they do make a movie it's based on the book, and not a Rent-style musical/movie.

Wow. Really? You thought the changes were bad? I read the book first too, but I love the story of the Musical better because it appeals to all ages. It's like Disney, but so much cooler. But I still like the origional story.

Everyone who's talking about an actual movie, are you all on crack or something?!?!?! How could you even THINK anyone else could play Elphie and Glinda in a movie Wicked but Idina and Kristin?! They MADE the show great! Their chemistry is the best ever.

I loved it! Idina is the best! I think IF they made a movie they should keep as many of the original cast as possible. But I do think that Kristin Bell would make a good Glinda, if Cheno or JLT couldn't do it. As much as I loved Ana Gasteyer as Elphaba, I don't think I would want to see it without Idina.
