Point is guns ain't the only thing that can kill you or the only thing that someone can use to end someone else's life. Guns are however one of the most effective forms of self defense, and you don't even have to pull the trigger in some cases...

Dr Suzanna Hupp was giving a speech in Chicago last year on gun ownership and the anti-gun people handed the audience tongue depressors that said on them "The Illinois State Police recommends that women should gag themselves and vomit incase of attack".

Self defense is a subject that have been and am interested in. The fact of the matter is whenever you have to defend yourself your life is on the roulette table. VnazT let me guess, the class she took was RAD.

let me start by saying I am strongly against self defense that RAD and other forms of martial arts often sell. They offer some positive things that people should seek like self confidence. Self confidence is the most fundamental thing needed for self defense.

What I have seen in my two friends that have taken RAD specifically and other friends who take other forms of self defense training is over confidence. Over confidence is almost as dangerous as having no confidence. If self defense is important to you then it is important to have an accurate understanding of your abilities. The only thing you should be concerned about is escaping the situation safely. Fighting takes time, during this time the situation could develop and your options

can become limited or non-existent. Firearms are great because it doesn't require a lot of training to be effective, also they don't require physical strength. When facing an attacker with a weapon or when facing multiple attackers a firearm does the most to shift the odds in your favor. Nothing , even firearms, are not a guarantee of safety.  In addition I recommend some hand to hand training as well as access to a knife. Take care and be safe.

Even though I do believe it's a good idea to try to attract as much attention as possible when attacked, relying entirely on that for defense is flat-out goofy. The dingbats who suggest that people simply whistle for help should look into the murder of Kitty Genovese as well as the numerous other recorded instances and studies on bystander apathy.
