@krank2910 mate have you got an ND Filter. try first notching up the f-stop, if your still getting over-exposed images then put on the ND filter and adjust the f-stop according to that. that way you can keep your shutter speed at 1/25.
got a problem here. I'm from europe , so i use 25 fps . I 'm filming a normal sunny day from my windows with shutter 1/25 but i see all overexposed. To obtain good image i have to set shutter to 1/300 and more. Is normal? Why i'm forced to change shutter speed to have a normal exposure?
If you buy a Canon, you will eventually have to face the factory service center and they will NOT honor their warranty. My HD so-called Professional Camera has been in the shop THREE times in its short 6 month life. They tried to charge me $1,000 because of a defective firewire port. Complete idiots. Defective equipment and a 4 year warranty. I will NEVER buy any Canon product again. Period. Considering it, are you? Save your money ... don't do it. Canon sucks.
@pieries there should be settings on the camera to change the resolution, he has a video about changing it to hd, i think the problem is that you're on 480p
@pieries Hi there, im guessing you may have already figured out how to remove the grainy quality of your footage as you left this comment 3 months ago lol. i had the same problem but was able to figure it out pretty quickly. there is a flick switch almost directly below the power dial called GAIN. you need to switch it to L (for low) in order to let less light into your camera but will remove the grain. then set your camera to A for auto and your laughing. hope this helps :)
If who that of foreign colleagues is going to to throw out such chamber, please don't do it. Present it to me, because I in Ukraine on it should work 5 years = (
i use a CANON XHA1 ive been making MUSIC VIDEOS on it for over a year, its very versatile and easy to shoot with but i would like to meet other users of the XHA1 to get to know it better.
im wondering if i want to shoot and then make the footage slow motion . is it wise to shoot in really bright light and increase the shutter speed to suit that. does this crisper movement mean that the slow mo will be cleaner what would you do.
Teach folks how to control IRIS instead which is the main mistake videographers make when shooting inside a room with the poorly lid subject is close to a huge bright window or against the sun. All you do is to read the room's exposure away from the strong light (point anywhere BUT the strong light) then press "exposure lock" and the room will not get dark when pointing the camera towards the bright source. Alternatively, you can control your IRIS ring as the lighing changes.
Hey, THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THIS INFO. I just went to a videographers house and he went over all of this with me but this is so much easier to understand. Thanks. KEEP them coming and please do not read any of these negative responses. People are rude. I am grateful to you. JEN
These days we see small camcorders which mentions 1080p. Now if Canon XH-A1 is 1080i, does those small tiny winny camcorders any better then Canon XH-A1
I messed with the smaller 3ccd cameras and compared it in the same room low light with a sony FX1 and it seems that the bigger the chip the more light it will draw in. Smaller cameras have I think a 8th inch ccd while the bigger ones have a quarter inch ccd making low light better quality. Just a thought.
Sorry meant to put 3-1/3" ccds as compared to a 1/8" ccd on the smaller cameras. its hard to believe but the diff is noticeable in low light.
I have never messed with the Canon 5d mark II but it looks cool and not 3 ccd, but the advancement of cmos now or in the future is getting close. Personaly I want to get a casio f1 just because it looks like it would be fun to play with at 60 frames a second burst shooting.
I have all three, the Canon XH-G1, 5D MkII & Casio EX-F1. The XH-A1 is a 'proper' camcorder with a moveable LCD monitor, Focus & Zoom pull, XLR mike sockets and very editable recording format. I use the 5D MkII for 35mm type DOF. Both cameras great in low light if you know what you are doing. The EX-F1 is primarily as a trick camera for web output. It's sensor size is limiting. It's very high speed modes 600/1200fps require masses of light and video even at std frame rate is poor in low light.
You use Menu, Signal Setup and select 24F. This is NOT selected from the shutter speed wheel. i.e. the frame rate is independent of the shutter speed. e..g. You can have a frame rate of 24 fps and a shutter speed of 1/200 of a second.

great tutorial. I'm having troubles with my xha1. It will record with the remote, but not with the record button on top or on the right side.
basically the buttons on the camera won't record, but the remote (start/stop) works.

in this sense the New Canon 5D mark II should be the best Camcorder out there isnt it?
as it has a 21 MP full frame CMOS sensor..

Casio EX-F1 is a compact as it still has smaller sensor. you will still face the grainny video in low light..
the 5D mark II is quite special as it has quite a big sensor so in low light there will be no issues.
I do like the Ex-F1.. Nice camera
