  • and yet...with the icehouse, us hockey player are still struggling for ice time. that was point of 2 rinks there and yet we get kicked off for figure skaters and general sessions. We have to train as well. they arent the only ones who have to train late at night

  • @ashaman10 And the figure skaters make the same complaints about the hockey, even though they have lost ice time too. The fact of the matter is all the ice sports have not got a good deal with regards to ice time and have to fight for it. Because ING want to make it all about public sessions so they can make as much money as possible to maximise their return.

  • LOOOL he can practice sweeping all day at mine, i got a bunch of leaves he can rake up too if he wants.

  • The icehouse is built now, and it's very nice.

  • give us a new rink!! i love ice hockey. i used to play but quit when ringwood closed down. we deserve a full size rink of a good standard.

  • The new rink is currently under construction. Hard to believe but true. It is being built across from the defunct wheel. Looks like we could have the rink before the 2010 Winter Olympics. At present there is a temporary rink at Docklands (next to the defunct wheel).

  • Glad to hear it's spreading atleast. I live in Sweden where ice rinks are in no short supply and I've always take it for granted. But when I stayed in Australia for half a year last year I didn't see any rinks or news surrounding ice sports at all.

  • A Update.

As of 30/10/08, the government announced that the Docklands rink is going ahead. Will start construction in 2009 and is due for completion 2010. In the meantime, from January or February next year, there will be a temporary rink at Docklands until the permanent one opens.

  • Well! The Docklands folks will have to get their heads out of the sand and get this done with, eh?

  • Thanks for posting this! I don't know why the $10 million couldn't tbe used for building a rink in a diferent area of Melbourne...something with a lower real estate price than the Docklands. It's totally crazy...Sydney has loads of rinks; Melbourne, just one! If Melbourne needed a new football stadium, they would be falling over themselves to fund and build it!
