  • To all the people that are saying this film made white people look evil, get a reality check.Do you realize in the time period of the KKK a majority of whites WERE evil?It didn't make *all whites look evil according to Matthew McConaughey,Ashley Judd, and Sandra Bullock's characters.

  • Amazingly portrayed Matthew.

  • @Vaul55 Seriously?!? Whoaaaa!

  • Haters

  • Haters

  • Jack Bauer disapproves this verdict.

  • Still the parents should never ever let their 10 to 14 year olds go out grocery shopping by themselves because that's what will happen.

  • @fletski What disgraceful people waiting to rape them.

  • tears fall from my eyes everytime I watch this ...my breathing stops ...my heart literally hurts ...I forget this is a movie and wish the integrity of the men/women of law were so...

    pure simple plain truth

    a Brilliant script!

thank-you for sharing this part here ...somehow the actual movie that people have shared ...gone...

  • BRILLIANT FILM !!!

  • "Now imagine she's white".

    He just won the trial.

  • @BayAreaOrBust - like an atomic bomb. Wow.

  • I cry like baby everytime at this scene, not just because the story is horrible (it's truly disgusting) but because when he was saying the story, he alreday knew that everyody was picturing a white girl, which is why he asked them to picture a white girl, to make them see how Carl-lee can be justified in what he did because t'll make them see that they'd do the same

  • I was crying during this.

It was slighty annoying as I couldn't find my earphones and my quality on my computer is bad and all I can hear is Lady GaGa in my sister's room...

But, still, this scene was so moving

  • wouw.. i watched this movie last night!.....people are such animals....and this end of the movie..wouw..he did reeeaaalllyy goooddd..it moved me and made me almost cry.....the reason that he said in the end now imagine that she was white, is because, than would evrybody do, the same the vather of that lill girl did!.. i would kill even my mother if she would touch my kid like that..let along someone else!......IM JUST GLAD I LIVE HERE AND NOW....even there're things like this still in the world

  • This scene is so moving.

  • This made me cry.

  • IT MADE PERFECT SINCE BECAUSE IF SOME ONE BEAT AND RAPED UR MOM OR CHILD AND LEFT THEM TO DIE YOU WOULD GO COMPLETELY INSANE I WOULD WHICH WOULD LEAD UP TO INSANE ACTIONS SUCH AS MURDER

  • made me cry.

  • One of his greatest performances. One of my favorite speeches. I love it

  • I think the movie's ending made no sense as he should have gone to prison - it seems a bit too unrealistic and Hollywood. Carl Lee would still be seen as a hero. Maybe they should've lifted the death sentence it should have been a few years in prison. The lawyer would still have argued a good case and challenge the prejudices of people. It all seems a bit too optimistic in the end - we know in real life a murderer would not get away. Seems that the movie was more about race than the case.

  • @OzgurumBen1 nah read the book it makes more sense...

    Insanity would work.

  • @OzgurumBen1 You call him a murderer remember murder is the unjustified taking of life.

  • @Deadpool1495 im not saying he wasnt justified in killing those racist rapists. Like the film stresses, anyone of any race, sane or insane would want to do the same thing. But when you kill someone even if you have reasons to, you reduce to their level. Its like the executioners of evil murderers like sadam and gadaffi - yes they had good reasons to kill and they will be seen as heroes but they did the same thing as the murderers. it better for murderers to rot in cells 4 life.

  • @OzgurumBen1 im not referring to carl lee when i say they should rot in cells for life im referring to evil murderers.

  • 7:51 ... Jack Bauer?!

  • Its not abt evil/good whites or any race of ppl. Its abt every1 in the world who ignores or underestimates ppl who dont belong to their "group" of ppl, whether this is their race, nationality, religion, socio-economical status, outlook or outfit.

What the lawyer tried to do was trigger their feelings of compassion for their fellow, & put them into the accuser's shoes. So he failed, & instead he took the little girl's shoes & wore them to another's - a person THEY would have feelings for! :))))))

  • Uh... me not being from USA may have something to do with it. But didnt think of the girl as black. Maybe its the fact that i know so little to no black people that whenever i think of a person i imagine a white man.

Maybe its the fact that i have a little sister, and this movie made me feel awful from the begining, just thinking about her on the situation.

Either way i cried quite a lot during this movie.

  • That was for those that say brutal crimes against blacks don't happen that often in reality and that the film is unrealistic. Yea, ok

  • If you think this is a anti-white film painting whites as evil people, let me remind you of the incident that took place in MS just months ago this year. A group of white teenagers thought it would be a good idea to kill a "nigger" and brutally beat and ran over an innocent black man outside of a Kmart. Google it if you think I'm lying

  • guy below me is a filthy bigot

  • @metathus wow, i didn't realize people this stupid still existed...

  • @Megadeth4242 Are you talking about yourself. Me stupid? Ok, if you are so smart how about we discuss the finer points of string theory or the uncertainty principle. No? OK, then fuck the fuck up!

  • @metathus painting white people as evil racists my ass, the black guy in this movie would be in jail if it wasn't for the white lawyer

  • @chafenhimer Most people dont see things the way I see them.

  • No matter what the race a crime against a child is the most worst thing that would set any honest person off. This movie was VERY POWERFULL in it's statement about the crime against children is something everybody should be aware about .

  • This speech kicks Atticus Finch's ass <3

  • @diamondring62 naw atticus' is better but this is good too

  • "Imagine she's white"? I don't get it. The jury must think NOTHING horrible can EVER happen to white children!

  • @fiversrevenge If you watch the movie you should get it. Pay attention to Samuel Ls talk to his lawyer just before

  • Gives me the chills everytime I listen to it. Awesome tie up of pure logic and emotion, working together to show that the truth doesn't care about race or ethnicity or religion, but people, unfortunately, still do.

  • Scum like those 2 deserve to die. He didn't commit murder. He just took 2 pieces of shit off the street. They raped, hurt and tortured that little girl. If that was my little sister I'd kill the mother fuckers to. I'd make them wish they were never born!

  • Man I havent seen the movie but the book version was awesome and whether or not he cried that shows as a lawyer and white lawyer he knew it was wrong just like every white asshole there knew as well so many can miss me with that shit.

  • My god, how bad it is ... Glad McConaughey isn't an actual lawyer because he would be the WORST lawyer ever ! The aim of a lawyer is to convince not to make people cry by playing the guy in tears. What i say does not have anything to deal with the terrible facts but gosh, i cannot get over this bad playing !

  • @maximedupuismd thats not the point. the point of him telling this story is to inform everyone in the jury about what has gotten lost in the midst of all the judicial things and that is the truth. he wanted everyone to know that it doesnt matter what color the little girl was, any father could have the right to feel that way and act in that manner if they were white, black, hispanic, chinese and etc... and people were emotional because of the story not because he was crying if you paid attention

  • if you dislike this video you are just like those boys how raped, beat and broke that little girl

  • @slicktheflash maybe they dont like the monologue, doesnt mean they're rapists

  • Best bit of trivia ever: The story about the girl wasn't in the original script. Matthew McConaughey ad-libbed the entire thing....and in a single take.

  • @Vaul55 This isn't true at all. It was in the script and a variation of it was in the book.

  • @Vaul55 What are you talking about? It's the story of his daughter's rape. Have you not read the novel?

  • He tought there's a chance they may be acquitted so he shoots them in the courthouse and injures a deputy. He didn't even wait to find out. Then he pleads not guilty due to temporary insanity. In the closing statement the insanity defense never get mentioned the lawyer just tells everyone that he did it but it's ok because it's revenge. The jury is there to decide if he did it or not. The court just rules that revenge and crippling a deputy is ok as long as racial grievance is involved.

  • i like the book version better

  • 8:10 OWNED!

  • my tears fall every time i here his story.

  • @zjzenobiajoyner

    hear* :)

  • gave me such chills. my god.

    8:09 good job lady!

  • this gave me chills. i love ittt..

  • I was delighted when Samuel L took they two disgusting pigs out they deserved to be tortured to death for what they did to his daughter

  • lol at the racist ginger .

  • racism is alive and kicking i see that with some of these comments wow it saddens me that people are still blinded by color...Martin Luther King said it best that we should not be judge by the color of our skin but the content of our character...but i hope one day before its to late that race shouldn't be an issue because when we all die GOD is still going to be the judge no matter of what race we belong to

  • @dholman1900 But anyways, you also have to remember those boys weren't even tried yet,and in this country you're Innocent until proven guilty. In the court they just kept assuming those boys were guilty(which they were). Still though those boys did deserve to die, and I'm not arguing against that(although I am anti-death pentalty myself just cause you deserve to die doesn't mean you should this isn't an eye for an eye country). I'm just pissed off at this movie and its message.

  • I watched this movie when I was like nine years old. I didn't know lot about the world but what he saying was right. It don't what shade of colour you are , if you something wrong you should punish based on your wrong. Samual L jackson killed two men who did worst crime earth : to hurt a child. Any parent would have done same.

  • 27 people imagined she was magneta. >:(

  • Maybe that Deputy didn't need that leg either. It is easy to agree with what he did but it it not necessarily the correct thing to do.

  • Arguing temporary insanity and using this closing argument will get your client thrown right the hell in jail. He is innocent because its too sad to put him behind bars is not a defense that works. He doesn't even pretend that he is innocent. Sorry guys...Samuel L Jackson is morally right but hes legally fucked in this one.

  • Good acting

  • One of the most incoherent, populist and stupid arguments ever seen. This is the prouf that feelings are omnipresent in courthouse instead of rational decisions.

  • @xDJay3900 well im sorry to hear that. cause i need i wouldve done the same thing Carl Lee Haley did if the same thing happened to my daughter.

  • @bigbaconburger17 Amen to that.

  • @addiskrilla well for one u called them crow folk

  • :'(

  • "Now imagine she's white" doesnt just refer to racism, i don't know why you don't see that, that statement is what makes this speech so powerful because it means more than just the difference of a little black girl and a little white girl. it refers to everyone's prejudice that was in the jury, and in the room. not just Black and White. It says "Hey, look what has happened to a child, tell me what father, black, white, tan, or purple, wouldn't have done or at least wanted to do the same thing"

  • Someone answer this: why the crow folks

Are so EVIL? Why they hate us so? As a

Southernaire, it completely baffles me sometimes. It's oviously clear whai we have

Them, but why they hate us? Reply to me

Back as soon as you can.

  • @Addiskrilla THE FUCK are you talking about?

  • @isayyno

I don't think they even know o_O Maybe they were high when they wrote it.

  • 8:15 YEEEEAAAAAHH BUDDY! uMad bro?

  • I got teary eyed in this scene...

  • @Joker16707

Dude... this didn't actually happen... You know that right?

  • No shit Sherllock,I was just quoting Samuel L. Jackson's most famous line of the movie

  • @Joker16707

If you're going to be an ass to me, then at least spell Sherlock right.

  • Has there been many Hollywood movies about a gang of black men raping a white girl? Cause it happens a lot.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 How many movies have there been about violence and unrest caused because whites judge blacks based on unfair prejudices? That happens even more.

  • @irishguy1494 I see stuff like that all the time in shows or movies, them trying to get out their message. I dunno, why is Muhammed Ali seen as a hero when he is/was racist? Everyone judges people. Blacks don't help themselves with their gang cultures etc.

  • This gives me goosebumps. Upon first seeing this, I aspired to be a lawyer, and my mind has never deviated, this speech is incredible, one of the greatest movie moments of all time.

  • This speech is just incredibly effective. So well delivered by Matthew. Definitely strikes a nerve.

  • it is to rase awareness not stirr shit

  • also riminds em of troy davis

  • saw this in language arts today:)

  • the movie iself, race issues aside, is good. but I cannot get over the fact that movie is obviously an attempt to "stir shit" for want of a better expression.

  • @ArnoldTohtFan race issue aside? if he had been white it wouldn't have been an issue. they'd have been shaking his hand, not trying to convict with the death penalty.

  • @cerrenes

thats presuming white people operate within a "hive mind" mentality, which they do not, for the most part. there's so much anti-white propaganda nowadays, I tend to recognise it for what it is. that's not to say sam jackson's character was wrong, it is understandable what he does.

  • @ArnoldTohtFan yes there's a great deal of anti-white propaganda, brought on by retaliation to the racism that's still alive and doing well in the US. racism works both ways. however, in our PC world, a black man does not get the same trial that a white man does. call it what you will, but twenty years after this was written and fifteen years after it was adapted into a movie, what was true then still holds true now.

  • @cerrenes

racism from white's is not allowed anymore, even if its needed in the defense of their identity. white people are actually the most endangered race now. I don't blame black people, I don't blame asian people, I don't blame latino people, I don't blame arab people. But I do blame the jews, and for good reason.

  • More movies need to be made like this.

  • Without A Doubt One Of My Favourite And Most Powerful Movie Scenes I Have Ever Seen In My Lifetime!

  • @AgentGhost Amen.

  • How can the jury find him innocent? Even though his daughter suffered terribly, the fact is that he DID illegally kill two men and wounded another. That is all that matters, not the context of why he did it.

  • @thenexttsar

Actually it matters that we have a safer better society to live in. The law is always being readjusted to new conditions. Context does matter. I don't care if someone kills the person who rapes his daughter, I'm concerned about the person who kills anyone for fun. The law is not perfect and the idea that the law is the law implies that it is. Justice isn't the same thing as law, justice is understanding the intention of the law.

  • @thenexttsar

It's Hollywood. How did the jury find Casey Anthony innocent?

  • This movie just like every other movie sums it all up, don't fuck with Samuel L. Jackson LOL.

  • after he tells the story of the horrors this little girl had endured,he say's ''now imagine she's white''. which mean's does it matter? no child, black, white, yellow or brown should have to go through this atrocity.

  • @ebuz218 Its because it is a racist town, so to say that she is white is to say that she is one of their daughters. These people hate black people, so before he made that speech, she was just another little back girl that didnt matter. something to think about.

  • R.I.P Troy Davis

  • he caught me there...all the time i was imagining she was black,too..just goes to show you how we think...

  • by far and away, one of the single greatest and powerful movie scenes of all times.

  • For those who think his statement "now imagine she is white" was racist and stupid, needs to go to their local library, borrow the book and actually read it. Racism is one of the central themes of the book and that one statement sums up the whole point of the book. People need to stop taking it literally.

  • why is it tht when a little white girl gets raped nd beaten the perpetratures go away for life? But when a little asian, black, indian, or hispanic girl gets raped nd beaten theperpetratures either get off or get no more thn -10 years? It makes me sick...We are ALL EQUAL in the eyes of the LAW and the LORD.

  • @a7xbaby978 I know the answer to your question and NO we are not all equal in the eyes of the law. "The eyes of the law are human eyes and until we can see each other as equals, justice will never be even handed, it will remain nothing more than a reflection of our own prejudice...." - Matthew McConaughey

  • @a7xbaby978 your comment is the point of this speach. Why do we (society) only care when it's a white girl. McConaughey is putting a mirror up to our brains to ask 'why.' Love this scene.

  • @a7xbaby978 i totally agree

  • @a7xbaby978 I totally agree

  • Pathetic..smh

  • "Now imagine she's white." This speech has to be the most powerful moment in a movie I have ever seen. This final statement was a slap in the faces of all the racists people from years and years ago, to as we speak. What is it in certain people that makes a color seem superior to everything? A color. Nothing else. This speech lifted the vail that was stapled to those people's eyes for so long, simply because of prejudice, control and ignorance. A child is a child. A person is a person.

  • @EuropeanShulamit Still. It was outrageous. The guy should've gotten some time in prison for double manslaughter. We'd all like to take the law into our own hands. Especially in some countries now, where the tables have turned. Black people can get away with crimes, through playing the race card. That isn't fair either, but the PC brigade would never admit that. Nor would many black people, cause people don't want equality.

  • @EuropeanShulamit Certain ppl? You mean what is it in ALL people? Never heard of Japanese supremacy, Black power, Latinos por la Causa?

ALL humans are partial to their own kids, their home team, their country, their own race....Negroes, Asians, Caucasians. It's natural.

If you have to picture a victimized girl as from YOUR home town, as your OWN little girl, of your OWN race, etc. in order to do the RIGHT thing, so be it. It's called loving your neighbor. America needs more of it.

  • @Suckbutton your name is Suckbutton?

  • Those two scumbags should have been raped and beaten just like the little girl before they were shot.

  • Matthew McConaughey should only play Lawyers.

  • does anyone kno wher to find the part wher they rape her?

  • @Mizzcutieboo

They don't actually show the scene in the movie... But why in the hell would you want to watch it anyway? Please tell me it's just out of curiosity and nothing else...

  • @LovinTheDharma

No my friend wants 2 see it,

i kept on saying how sad it was, so she wanted 2 see it, jus out of curiosity ofcourse nothing else.

its really upsetting this film :'(

  • I spent an entire weekend, video store, Jibi hi fi , Liverpool then parramatta. Finally found this baby on blu ray - Was absolutely worth the trouble.

  • 6:40 - 7:00 oh my god...mind fuck.

  • @uiluj13

    wat?

  • @Mizzcutieboo you know, "Now imagine she's white." that seemed like something so inappropriate for him to say yet it seemed so okay...

  • @uiluj13

ikr, wtf man, whats wrong with them, racist people Kmt :D XD

  • Every time I watch this movie my hart goes out to those who was in this postion.

  • If somebody rapes a defenseless 10 yr old girl, they deserve to die

regardless of the skin colour of the girl or the rapist

  • the speech didn't feel 8 minutes long when I watched the movie on TV

  • Most moving, powerful, awesome courtroom scene ever. IMHON.

  • Saw this film in a legalities class and thought it was fucking great. Didnt know until recently though that it was a Schumacher film, makes total sense tho cuz i always have a great appreciation for his films at the end. Im counting down the days for his new thriller "Trespass" with Nicole Kidman to come out. Have a good feeling on that one.

    youtube.com/watch?v=1rolBdc_mjs

  • @gabby6488 Have you seen the 199x movie Trespass? That was a good thriller. Great sets.

  • also, i find it funny that everyone saying that he shouldn't have gotten away with it, would be the firsts one with a M16 if that was their daughter. i know i would. and if you can accept that, then you know why he wasn't found guilty.

  • now imagine she is white refers to all the racist white people that cant seem to get passed the color barrier. no its not stupid. what is stupid is that after all these years people still cant see past black and white.

  • @MsPclady AMEN !

  • @MsPclady After "All this time" ? I was under the impression that the African American Civil Rights Movement was something that ended no more than 50 years ago. Did you realize that the young generations now have had to grow up with racist parents and grandparents. Have had to grow up with ideals imbedded in them by people who are left over from a time of segregation and racism? You haven't let nearly enough time pass.. You don't just wake up and change your ideals.

  • @sh7th3ad slavery ended way past 50 yrs my parents were very racist and we are not white but of many colors and nationalities. it is way past time to come as one, and yes it has been enough time to come to their senses, i am that generation you talk about, like i said my father was very racist but that didnt stop me from loving all races. i decided to think for myself and not what my father preached to me all the time i was growing up!

  • @MsPclady

I assumed the when he 'now imagine she's white' basically meant that everyone there made the assumption that this was happening to a black person-that's what was running through my mind anyway. At the end when he goes now imagine she's white, represented that white people could allow that kind of behavior to a different colored human being, but when applied to their race it becomes un-acceptable.

  • I think Matthew McConaughey is generally underrated as an actor.

  • en que parte la encuentro con subtitulo o en español????

  • Comment removed

  • YES THEY DESERVE TO DIE AND I HOPE THEYBURN IN HELL!

  • @hakerqx That's all I can think when I see Samuel L. Jackson, and I don't think will ever change hahahaha

  • We watched this movie a my school last year with all of the students and the feeling was amaing. Everyone was complely quite just listening to his words. Even all the troulbe makers were silent. Truly amazing!

  • Did he REALLY have a placard that said "God is White"? o_O #fail

  • 6:59 gives me goose bumps every time.....Powerful!

  • Jack Bauer is better as racist than a secret agent

  • has Samuel Jackson been always old?

  • In reality, it would be the same. I would shoot down anyone who would do that to my girl.

Antiwhite depiction? It is mississipi so that that depiction is all too true...one of the places where segregation was known for..."back of the bus!!!" screw you...hope you get cancer

  • LOOOOL Samuel's like 'wait what?'

  • for Caylee Anthony...

  • Sure u would feel the same way.

  • @ richardelden though Carl lee may not have been insane at the time of the murder for u to say he killed two innocent men is far fetched. Idk how two people could brutally rape, torture , and attempt to murder a small child is innocent in your eyes. And what's crazy is at that time in the 60's those two men prob would a got a slap on the wrist for there actions just for the fact it was commuted against a black girl. If your a father if someone was to do that to ur child those same emotions I'm

  • when he starts to cry i do D:

  • ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I HAVE HAD IT WITH THESE MOTHERFUCKING DISLIKES ON THIS MOTHERFUCKING VIDEO

  • This Blows My Mind

  • @RichardElden A racist movie, like in about racism. So yes, it is racist, but that is what the movie is about.

  • that part made me cry

    :(

  • One of the few movies that lived up to the book. Great stuff

  • Comment removed

  • He should have said

    "Now imagine it's your child"

    Still a great ending :')

  • Comment removed

  • @radioromance -

Yes. You can - that is what a closing statement does-it asks a jury that very thing you say it can't; to ask themselves what a REASONABLE person would do in those circumstances and put yourself in that place in order to find guilt or innocene. Your objection is probably due to the injection-like it or not the element of race was there - both in the book and the movie.

  • @MegaBeanz That's what i thought when I watched the movie! "Now imagine she's white" is really kinda stupid to say!

  • @BankzZ89 are you slow ? he says it because every person on the jury pictures a black child, not a white one, due to the case. he says that to show the people their prejudice, and to give that something to relate to. fucking retard.

  • The whole point of this argument is to show that the case is about race and nothing else. Also, if you read the book, a juror actually brings this up in deliberations, not Brigance.
