A nice 7" clear blue vinyl single with the 2 new songs is available now from retailers.I rec'd mine in the mail end of Feb.Shop around,&you can avoid ebay gougers&certain retailers charging inflated shipping,&get it from retailers with reasonable prices.Mazzy's an Indie band now with their own label.Support&encourage them by buying their music!&it's a treat hearing Hope's voice&the band's playing with the depth&warmth vinyl pressings can provide! & all 3 Mazzy LPs are out as vinyl reissues!!
its so refreshing that a band can still put out music thats just as,talented, soulful, and all around beautiful, after all these years.so much music sucks these days its nice to know mazzy star stays true to their overall views.thank you mazzy star, please never sell out, hope youre so beautiful physically, but youre voice is what i picture an angels to be.gives me chills
Some show dates have been announced. See mazzystar.nu forums for more info. Please Universe, let her touching angelic voice and sensitive spirit sing near me, so I may go and stand in awe and offer thanks and praise...
New Mazzy!? Man, the music scene needs this! Can't wait for the album to drop...was just listening to STTIMS and thought to self, self...where is Mazzy these days? AND, Viola...a new ablum! That's awesome :) and makes me smile :D
I am damn lucky 2 hear this band this 2011 & I've checked their history & it is sad that they don't make this music anymore but throughout this year, i have this feeling that what if they will ever make another album after 15 yrs? There is still maybe a slight hope for that but time keeps passing by. TODAY I am just simply happy & glad they r back again.. Beautifully fantastic. 2012 marks another great yr with new generation music!
Or...Perhaps with all the talk of 'stealing music', etc? Personal speculation making me wonder if the use of 'Into Dust' for a video game commercial was not warranted? Prompting Hope and David to reform MS, create new songs (Lay Me Down could be Hope's response to a certain someone IMPO?), release said new songs on their OWN website w/ news of new album and tour. Buuut this is all speculation & I'm just looking into something WAY too much.
Perhaps them parting ways for a while helped them enhance the direction both Hope & David Roback would like Mazzy Star to become? Lay Me Down is more upbeat yet still retains the signature Mazzy Star sound. David Roback is still amazing as ever!! I am very happy they are back together and can't wait for the new album.
I love how disjointed this song is. It's very minimalist yet all the sounds weave together, sounding ethereal, light and airy. Like a tapestry. I have to admit this song surprised me. TBH (being a longtime fan since 93) I was very skeptical of the reunion due to the fact I, personally, felt after AMS. The band could go no further. Which is why it was great Mazzy Star ended the way it did. On a high. Common Burn proves to me the experimental Warm Inventions helped bring something more. Cont..
Simple things like your overcoat and your beauty That's still...burnin' me let me hang around Even if it's just some way to have Some common burn A common burn So I spent the night In someone's house that you cluttered Oh simple me...that you fled But we haven't That common burn That common burn
Aware of...how it's lasted So many times before You could sit around and have Everything that you score Just don't come home and say You're gonna sleep When you know...you're burnin' Someone That common burn That common burn...mmm we all need a
I've developed a drug like dependence on this song; I listen to it about 3 times a day. It's just so beautiful it calms me down whenever I'm angry or stressed. I can't fall asleep without it any more.
It's crazy how people just steal music these days. It used to be that if you wanted to hear music, you had to pay money to buy it. Hope, Dave, and Co. spent the time to write and record this nice song and they don't get a dime for their troubles from a lot of people who listen to it.
@mikeusat I 1/2 agree. In the video description I note Mazzy Star's now an Indie band with their own label,&urge fans to support&encourage them by buying their music. But it's apparent the band itself likely provided the 2 songs to sites like Pitchfork to stream for free. They could easily shut down YT uploads by lodging copyright infringement claims, but haven't.Fans should help reward them for their open&tolerant approach(none of my many Mazzy/Hope uploads have been spiked) by buying their music!
@Bobjb999 I agree. Although I could have gotten the MP3s for free, I still paid for both songs. $.99 cents each is a bargain, and all fans should support their bands. As soon as they announce tour dates, I will book a flight to see them live in LA.
@mikeusat You don't have to pay to listen to the radio, and bands provide songs to the radio to get the word out about their band and their music, this is the same idea. Precisely because someone was able to sample this on here could encourage and inspire them to purchase music from the band.
Speaking of which, I can listen to her music on here all day but I actually do go to stores all the time looking for 'The Warm Inventions' cd's and can't find any to save my life.
@mikeusat - the internet changed the music industry (as it was corrupt as hell before, i.e. the promoters and distributers made the real money). youtube is free advertising much like the radio where people also enjoy music freely. musicians make their money by performing concerts. "people just steal music" ... c'mon, you sound like Lars Ulrich back in the '90s.
A true artist would make music only for listening and not for profit, it's attitude like yours that makes this world so shitty, stop worrying about money and start caring for each and every other person.
@mikeusat I'm from Brazil, and I'm a H-U-G-E fan of their work since 96', but never bought an album, 'cause there's only imported ones and it's VERY expensive [don't know if you're rich or not, but $30 plus importation taxes is way too much for me]
@mikeusat If it wasn't for this song being posted up on you tube, I would never have known that Mazzy star was active again. This upload should be viewed as free advertising for the group. Thanks to this I will now be heading over to itunes to download the single and will be looking out for the forthcoming album. I wouldn't have know anything about either had I not stumbled across this while searching for portishead videos!!
@mikeusat Some do, but also some who hearing something they like, will buy it. Is it not fair to expect people to want to know what they're buying before actually buying it? I'm not paying for this listen, but it's making me want to hear the new album when it's released, and if I like that enough, I'll buy it.
@mikeusat I'M WITH YOU REGARDING COMPENSATION FOR YOUR WORK...I'M ALSO ATUNE TO THE LARGE PICTURE OF A CRIPPLED MUSIC INDUSTRY THAT ONLY ALLOWED WHO THEY CHOSE FOR US TO HEAR. HANG IN THERE, AFTER THIS POST NAPSTER STUFF SETTLES, YOU WILL PAY.....AND IT WILL BE READILY AVAILABLE FOR ALL TO ENJOY....JUST ENJOY THE TRANSITION....IT'S NEVER FUN FOR THE ARTIST FROM THE ONSET, BUT....IT ALWAYS WORKS, LIKE IT OR NOT HOW IT WORKS. "THE WHEELS OF A GOD GRIND SLOWLY...BUT, EXCEEDINGLY SMALL!"
@ayundame Thanks for lyrics input. "but we haven't a clue" sounds possible. though now I wonder if it might be "but we have in a clue (that common burn)" . As for the rest, I don't hear a "th" sound where you hear "clothed". I hear a definite "s" sound ('arms" in my attempt) at the spot where you hear "haven't". And there's a word I hear as "your" in between where you have "said" & "so". Hey, it's a puzzle!
@mikeusat I agree this sounds like the Warm Inventions but it has David's guitar. Lay Myself Down is more traditional Mazzy to my ears. Love both the new tracks, and can't wait to hear the rest of the new songs.
@Guntahkela Interesting pic, isn't it? Trivia for those who don't know : The slideshow has a '90s pic of Hope underwater, swimming in Leonard Nimoy's pool, LA, with a mysterious Mona Lisa style smile on her face. It came to light some months back thanks to photographer Laura Levine who included it in a show of her many R&R photos. I posted the link for it to fan site Mazzy Star Boulevard after finding it online.I'm fond of both new songs too. Hey, & more to come on the forthcoming album!
