I am damn lucky 2 hear this band this 2011 & I've checked their history & it is sad that they don't make this music anymore but throughout this year, i have this feeling that what if they will ever make another album after 15 yrs? There is still maybe a slight hope for that but time keeps passing by. TODAY I am just simply happy & glad they r back again.. Beautifully fantastic. 2012 marks another great yr with new generation music!

Prompting Hope and David to reform MS, create new songs (Lay Me Down could be Hope's response to a certain someone IMPO?), release said new songs on their OWN website w/ news of new album and tour. Buuut this is all speculation & I'm just looking into something WAY too much.

Perhaps them parting ways for a while helped them enhance the direction both Hope & David Roback would like Mazzy Star to become? Lay Me Down is more upbeat yet still retains the signature Mazzy Star sound. David Roback is still amazing as ever!! I am very happy they are back together and can't wait for the new album.

I love how disjointed this song is. It's very minimalist yet all the sounds weave together, sounding ethereal, light and airy. Like a tapestry. I have to admit this song surprised me. TBH (being a longtime fan since 93) I was very skeptical of the reunion due to the fact I, personally, felt after AMS. The band could go no further. Which is why it was great Mazzy Star ended the way it did. On a high. Common Burn proves to me the experimental Warm Inventions helped bring something more. Cont..

It's crazy how people just steal music these days. It used to be that if you wanted to hear music, you had to pay money to buy it. Hope, Dave, and Co. spent the time to write and record this nice song and they don't get a dime for their troubles from a lot of people who listen to it.

@mikeusat I 1/2 agree.In the video description I note Mazzy Star's now an Indie band with their own label,&urge fans to support&encourage them by buying their music.But it's apparent the band itself likely provided the 2 songs to sites like Pitchfork to stream for free.They could easily shut down YT uploads by lodging copyright infringement claims,but haven't.Fans should help reward them for their open&tolerant approach(none of my many Mazzy/Hope uploads have been spiked) by buying their music!

@Bobjb999 I agree. Although I could have gotten the MP3s for free, I still paid for both songs. $.99 cents each is a bargain, and all fans should support their bands. As soon as they announce tour dates, I will book a flight to see them live in LA.

@mikeusat You don't have to pay to listen to the radio, and bands provide songs to the radio to get the word out about their band and their music, this is the same idea. Precisely because someone was able to sample this on here could encourage and inspire them to purchase music from the band.

Speaking of which, I can listen to her music on here all day but I actually do go to stores all the time looking for 'The Warm Inventions' cd's and can't find any to save my life.

@mikeusat - the internet changed the music industry (as it was corrupt as hell before, i.e. the promoters and distributers made the real money). youtube is free advertising much like the radio where people also enjoy music freely. musicians make their money by performing concerts. Thanks to this I will now be heading over to itunes to download the single and will be looking out for the forthcoming album. @ayundame Thanks for lyrics input. "but we haven't a clue" sounds possible. though now I wonder if it might be "but we have in a clue (that common burn)" . As for the rest, I don't hear a "th" sound where you hear "clothed". I hear a definite "s" sound ('arms" in my attempt) at the spot where you hear "haven't". And there's a word I hear as "your" in between where you have "said" & "so". Hey, it's a puzzle!

Trivia for those who don't know : The slideshow has a '90s pic of Hope underwater, swimming in Leonard Nimoy's pool, LA, with a mysterious Mona Lisa style smile on her face. It came to light some months back thanks to photographer Laura Levine who included it in a show of her many R&R photos. I posted the link for it to fan site Mazzy Star Boulevard after finding it online.I'm fond of both new songs too. Hey, & more to come on the forthcoming album!
