Yes, he hid and deserted the COG, but he turned out to be a hero in the end: He hid Adam Fenix so that he could anonymously help this war come to an end, he came back to help by talking to someone in a commanding position because he knew no one would listen to him and he let Marcus know his dad was still alive and he died to give the war winning information to him even though Marcus didn't show him any respect on his deathbed.

True but back then, all the nations made it clear self interest was more important than humanity's survival.Plus it was obvious everyone was gonna lose to the grubs. Also, Adam probably didn't have enough evidence to argue sinking Jacinto was the best option. That's why he only agreed in GoW2, when Marcus had evidence.
I liked Prescott. Sure, the hammerstrikes were terrible but it was needed. Which is worse? Tortured to death by grubs and letting them take valuable intel? Or hammering people, giving them quick painless deaths and robbing the grubs of intel? Furthermore, there were many nations on Sera. By Gears 1, only COG remained. Only Prescott could lead his people to survive. All the other chairmans died along with their people and countries, they died in failure. Wouldn't you call him a great leader too?
@MistaGify There were no other nations because all the other nations got fried. The locust could have been beaten by sacraficing Jacinto early on, but Prescott wanted HIS nation to survive. Adam even proposed the option to him (hence the line "But I guess your father was right all this time"). Whether or not he could grasp the full consequences of his decision, his self-interest killed billions, and almost finished off the renment in a 16 year long war.

I must say Iike Prescott's character and what he represents. This dude embodies the saying "Sacrifices must be made for the greater good." He's not as simple as people here make him out to be. Yes, he's done horrible things but at the same time he's been trying to protect what parts of humanity he can. The HoD strike was not something he or anyone else did lightly. Much like the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki it was something that had to be done to prevent more lives from being lost.
@EvilCleric Unlike the real world examples, he gave the people in the strike area 3 days to get as far as they could. At the same time he had to balance the fact the Locust would notice such a massive withdrawal and be ready for something. With Marcus's father, he needed the man to create a weapon that could destroy the lambent. Also don't forget that Prescott could've conceivably managed to negotiate with the Locust if Adam Fenix had told him of them in the 6 years he was in contact pre E-day

2) He declared multiple Hamerstrikes to try to kill the Locus, but killed more people than Locus in the process
3) He takes all the best Scientist and COG soldiers to the Island Azura NOT to help, but to wait for the war to be over so they can start over again.
4) He leaves the COG after Jacinto falls, which leads Hoffman to take the remaining survives to Anvil.
5) He comes back like ever nothing happened.

I liked Prescott. Sure, the hammerstrikes were terrible but it was needed. Which is worse? Tortured to death by grubs and letting them take valuable intel? Or hammering people, giving them quick painless deaths and robbing the grubs of intel? Furthermore, there were many nations on Sera. By Gears 1, only COG remained. Only Prescott could lead his people to survive. All the other chairmans died along with their people and countries, they died in failure. Wouldn't you call him a great leader too?

@MistaGify There were no other nations because all the other nations got fried. The locust could have been beaten by sacraficing Jacinto early on, but Prescott wanted HIS nation to survive. Adam even proposed the option to him (hence the line "But I guess your father was right all this time"). Whether or not he could grasp the full consequences of his decision, his self-interest killed billions, and almost finished off the renment in a 16 year long war.

I must say Iike Prescott's character and what he represents. This dude embodies the saying "Sacrifices must be made for the greater good." He's not as simple as people here make him out to be. Yes, he's done horrible things but at the same time he's been trying to protect what parts of humanity he can. The HoD strike was not something he or anyone else did lightly. Much like the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki it was something that had to be done to prevent more lives from being lost.

@EvilCleric Unlike the real world examples, he gave the people in the strike area 3 days to get as far as they could. At the same time he had to balance the fact the Locust would notice such a massive withdrawal and be ready for something. With Marcus's father, he needed the man to create a weapon that could destroy the lambent. Also don't forget that Prescott could've conceivably managed to negotiate with the Locust if Adam Fenix had told him of them in the 6 years he was in contact pre E-day

@EvilCleric completly not true the lambent were pushing the locust out of the hollows so fast and killing so many locust that it was inevitable for them to attack the suface if they didnt find a cure for the lambent(wich adam fenix was not able to do with the 6 years he was given)...plus the hole reason the locust did not simply side with the humans is because they belived the humans were savage and only new dominance because she watched as theyd estroyed eachother during the pendulam wars
