I scanned a document written in Chinese and then tried uploading from a local file. I did just as this video said and instead I got this: (Sorry, we do not currently support this file type. Please check our supported file types in our Help Center and try again.) Has anyone encountered this same problem? Please help, :(
Thanks for the info. I have a 55 page document in Bahasa (language) Indonesia.in pdf-Adobe Reader. I'm not having any success Translating this document into English. Probably due to my lack of computer knowlege. I would be very grateful of any advice you can help me with. Thanks
I have a problem. Please me to resolve it. I have saved a lot of vocabularies at my personal google translate page. But couple days ago, I can't find them anymore. Also, I usually use the page when I type a word on it, It will show the whole word even I forgot how to spell that word. And that page shows a lot of different examples for that specified word. It helps to understand since I'm not good in English. But now, I have no idea why I can't find that page at all.
Has anyone stopped to think that this whole instructional video is in ENGLISH? Who than can understand it except for English speakers? English is the best, most concise, most to the point and useful language in the world.
I don't have those "Glossary" and "Dictionary" buttons in the toolkit... Also the guy is highlighting a few chinese expressions, why is he doing that ? It doesn't do anything for me. Also the translation search results are applied on the whole sentence, isn't that a little bit inconvenient ?
Google really ought to provide subtitles for their help videos, especially when they don't offer a text version of the Translator Toolkit tour anywhere else.
susanmarie37, thanks for the insight! What tool did you use by the way?
All kiddding aside, why take criticism personally? I am not deaf, and I think my comments regarding the poor quality of speech in the site's official video guide are valid. Are you the one whose voice is heard in it? If so, you might seriously consider getting some speech therapy... Today, very few people speak English as clearly as ten, twenty, thirty, forty years ago! Just watch TCM!
I can't fully understand the speaker's English... he slurs, mispronounces, or practically deletes sylables in many words... This is very distracting to me. If he could speak slower the results would be much better I think!

No coincidence that the example employed in the tutorial is Chinese, given the recent debacle over Google's presence in the Chinese internet conversation. Nonetheless and regardless, Google continues to offer intelligent and intuitive productivity tools which other companies either never develop or for which they charge handsome fees. Bravo Google!
Whatever you do, don't save anything important to any google product, including google doc (despite it claiming you can store files safely and securely). They change the product so it no longer supports your browser (with no warning) and then provide no support to recover your documents
How can I create list of translated words (not all pages) ? For example: I add a word, translated it and than I want to add this translation to my private list. This list I can export to txt, pdf etc. - it will be my own dictionary. This future will be very helpful for me.
Umm, I've just been up all night working on an express document and suddenly the toolkit started saying I couldn't access the server, that I should check my internet connection, which was working fine. Kept checking back in half-hour intervals, then logging out and back in, only to find that ALL of my work has gone. The help wasn't helpful at all, anyone else had this huge mess-up happen? No, I didn't save elsewhere but in the toolkit :-(
This will be very helpful for first time users of Google translate to see that software helps keep consistency in the translation using the segments that were translated a couple of pages earlier in the same document.
- allow editing glossaries and tmx1 translation memory segment pairs. - (lighter google spreadsheet list view code can be used for that)
- allow creation of tmx files on the fly, during the translation. I am using omegat free tm tool and it starts showing search results in fuzzy match search window already when there is some part of the document translated.
Great tool for the liguistical impaired or in case of exotic languages. Now what would be really great is if you told me how the translator pop-up can be disabled. I don't want it, I don't need it and above all I don't want to have to close it every fuckin time I open a page!!!!! This techno-fascism is getting worse and worse. There is a world language, it's called English. Esperanto fucking sucks.

4. Esperanto sucks, learn a REAL language instead, IF you only can speak english, learn something like, Dutch, Portugese, French, Japanese, Cantonese, Chinese, German, Swedish, Arabic, Yiddish , whatever, but not esperanto.
I have traveled the world via Esperanto, 32 countries in total. It is a language with a humanist history attempting to bridge the world without dominating the world.
Ni pensas ke esperanta versio de la Google-tradukilo reta estas bezonata kaj utilos por la laboro de esperantlingvaj tradukistoj tutmonde. Dankon por baldaŭa aldono!
We think that an Esperanto version of the Google Translator Toolkit is necessary and will be very useful for the work of Esperanto translators worldwide. Thank you for adding it soon!
Please, we need Esperanto addd to the list of available languages. It is one of the fastest growing languages in the internet. If you don't know enough about Esperanto, you can Google it and get whatever you need to know.
The translate-to drop down has every language except Esperanto, could you add it please. Esperanto is 21st in Wikipedia, was nominated for the nobel peace prize, has machine translation (Apertium), and deserves to be included. Cheers.
"How can I save translated docs... so I can use them offline???" would be a better arrangement and translation of the thought I think you were thinking.
Sometimes when translating into english the phonetic arrangements/logic found in other languages become a bit of a stumbling block. Its not that they are hard to read so much as they are still a bit crude to do so at times. I suspect the same is true in other languages when going from english to to them.
Átmentem az IQ teszten. Blokkoltam a google reklámot kiszolgáló coocie-t. :)))) Rájöttem, engedélyeztem, és már megy is minden, mint a karikacsapás. :)
Azért valami e-mail jó volna a google eléréséhez problémák esetére. :)
Mi a baj a google-ban? Sem gmail fiókot nem engedett létrehozni mindenféle idióta ablakokkal, illetve már az eddig jól működő "translator tolkit" sem működik már.
Valamint a google-hez nem lehet fordulni kérdéssel, mert nincs hová. Érthetetlen számomra. Nemsokára youtube sem lesz elérhető?
(Ide írtam, hogy hátha olvassák, olvassa valaki.)
Ezt akartam: /watch?v=hq4NLr4D2SQ&feature=channel
The TMs and glossaries will be great, and we can invite others to collaborate on translations. I see alot of potential when you can use English as a TL. It will be great for collaborating on translating Wiki articles into English.
For the moment, English is the source language, not the target language, but results when it becomes the target language may be better because that will correspond to the direction of most translation examples used to "compile" Google MT systems.
Most Translators are worried about their jobs grow, develop and change with the times. Instant translation in verbal interaction is still not available so dont worry. The attitude should be how to use this tool to help grow your business and develop the opportunities that will come of this tool. Youre just not creative enough to adapt to changes that will come. Have translators even thought of what will happen in the next five years; ten years? Dont spread panic..spread knowledge.
No matter how good machine translations become, it'll never be a substitute for human translators. Computers can't convey subtle nuances or dialectic idiosyncrasies that humans can. Not to mention that it's useless when it comes to face to face communication. Translators and their agencies that are afraid of the advances in technology are only trying to protect themselves from a non-existent threat at the cost of advancing written communications. Times change, get over it.
well here is an app that supports translators into doing their job better..and not replacing them..try enounce myspeed...oops..sorry to plug..just can't resist.
Yeah, I am currently finishing two degrees in foreign languages. I was planning to be a translator, but by the time I start my career, machines will definitely have gained a huge share of the market by increasing productivity, effectively dropping the prices. Thanks to google translator and Trados, I'm gonna become a lawyer ^_^
but i don't really mind that too much either hehehe :P
You should post a much slower version of this in many different languages, for the non-technical, non-English people who need your tool the most. I'm an American web developer and I could barely keep up. You guys own YouTube, so why not use it to post some slow video tutorials, in addition to these cooking-show-speed intros.
My English is very limited and all I had to do was google "Google Translator Toolkit," follow the very simple instructions, and trust me, it's very easy to use. Email me if you have any technical questions

Don't work!
Magyarul (Hungarian):
Mi a baj a google-ban? Sem gmail fiókot nem engedett létrehozni mindenféle idióta ablakokkal, illetve már az eddig jól működő "translator tolkit" sem működik már.
Valamint a google-hez nem lehet fordulni kérdéssel, mert nincs hová. Érthetetlen számomra. Nemsokára youtube sem lesz elérhető?
(Ide írtam, hogy hátha olvassák, olvassa valaki.)

Translating to Chinese is kinda....bad

Interesting indeed.
The TMs and glossaries will be great, and we can invite others to collaborate on translations. I see alot of potential when you can use English as a TL. It will be great for collaborating on translating Wiki articles into English.
phalos 2 years ago

I totally encourage to all translators to STOP helping google to develop this software. This is going to kill the industry soon if you don't stop.
Google sucks but it could be a great tool in the future if you don't say no!

I have tested it and I works very good, (not prefect) English to Dutch.
But this video .... I get the impression that this guy is a computer simulation ?

Outstanding, this will help CLOSING quite a few translation agencies...
I work in one agency and I am really NOT looking forward using that tool.
Whatever text you upload there is THEIRS and there is nothing you can do about it.

Yeah, I am currently finishing two degrees in foreign languages. I was planning to be a translator, but by the time I start my career, machines will definitely have gained a huge share of the market by increasing productivity, effectively dropping the prices. Thanks to google translator and Trados, I'm gonna become a lawyer ^_^
but i don't really mind that too much either hehehe :P

of course they use the chinese translation so we have no idea if the translation is right cause google usually sucked in translating.

true, it used to be low quality, but now, with the peer editing and "better translation suggestion", it's gotten a lot better.
