  • i like the flute

  • The funny thing is that Nico hated the flutes. She wanted to make some heavy and loud rock album. I mean, it's great as it is but still

  • The flute is perhaps the greatest thing in this song.

  • I really like that song.

  • That was an interview with Nico on Stephen Walker on the Skull Cave Radio 3RRR in 1985 I think...

  • I still want to see the Chelsea Girls movie but I can't find it anywhere

  • @VIDEOFREAK076 bittorrent

  • thanks for the flute noises in the background, I almost forgot what a flute sounded like too

  • I'm in the Marble Index camp. I mean, that's my favorite and even on that LP, I found John Cale's instrumentation was a little much sometimes. Most of it is great, but when you hear the versions with just her and her harmonium (as on the Peel Sessions), you realize she's the most haunting and sophisticated thing going on in it and should stand out the most!

  • i really love the flute on chelsea girls. nico might not like it, but that doesn't mean it's not a great song. i mean, look at loaded.

the flute offers a very interesting texture, rhythmically and harmonically. the song would've sounded empty and plain otherwise.

  • The person who's name is on the album should have the final say in what it sounds like before it is released no matter how much of a big shot the producer is, or thinks he is.

  • i dont mind it as much, but it would have been better without

  • There's a version with a trumpet.

  • .. get OUTTIE !!!!

  • @lewars1912 Where can that trumpet version be found?

  • @VIDEOFREAK076 I'm very sorry. I made a mistake. It was a trombone version. Either that or a bassoon. In fact I think it was the tin whistle. Nico loved to play the tin whistle herself but she was always losing them. Another musical instrument she loved even more to play was the Scottish bagpipes, especially as they were a bit more difficult to lose, and she always wished that Lou had played the bagpipes instead of the guitar.

  • @lewars1912 Do you know where I can find this version? Lou on the bagpipes??? Now that would be a site :-)

I'm still looking for the Chelsea Girls film too.

  • @VIDEOFREAK076 >> I wish I could help you with this however I don't think a version was ever recorded as Lou couldn't get the hang of them. It was Nico that reportedly saw him holding them in his hands once and started to get very turned on by it. She had strange sexual tastes but was also very clever. I think she wanted record players to have a "No Flute" button.

  • @lewars1912 Where did you hear the alternate Chelsea Girls version?

  • @VIDEOFREAK076 >> Where did I hear the alternate Chelsea Girls version ?

  • @VIDEOFREAK076 >>I hope you find this Chelsea Girls film. I'm not looking for it myself. In fact I never even knew it was lost.

  • Masonbaconback I don't think you deserve the thumbs downs. Though Chelsea Girls is not my favorite by her (the marble index being the one), no one should base their likes or dislikes on an album solely based on what the singer thinks of it. yes, she was correct in saying that the album could have been better, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. after all, they are only sounds! if someone likes it more than her others, then so be it!

  • I love that album

  • Good God, Nico is a sexy, sexy woman.

  • I love Nico, But was horribly dissapointed with her other albums like Desertshore and Camera Obscura. How could she be so dissapointed in Chelsea Girl, one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard?

  • Try ''drama of exile''; a good album imo

  • what are you talking about ?? desertshore is a masterpiece !

  • she hates beauty

  • @yorkandpomona

    yes she did

  • @yorkandpomona Afraid is way more beautiful than anything off of Chelsea Girl

  • @BooNube huh?

  • I agree with Nico!

  • john cale 2008 quote from timesonline:

"Her first album Chelsea Girls (1967) had featured the Velvet Underground. Dylan gave her a song for it (Ill Keep it With Mine), as did Jackson Browne and Tim Hardin, yet everyone agreed it was too MOR. She was totally indifferent to it, later saying: 'I cried because of the flute . . . There should be a button on record players, a No Flute button.' "

  • Haha, that is actually pretty funny.

  • wow. I could look at people brushing hair out of their eyes *all* my life.

I fantasize a pastiche of all the songs I've stolen off the internet that were original, framed by loads of faces covered by wisps of hair.

  • can anyone find a recording of the song without the flute?

  • without the flute? god i love it...

  • hmm. I just don't like flutes. I agree with her in the viddd

  • me too. the flute is horrible......

  • I love that music.

  • yes, yes, yes, reissue sans flute! translation helped guide the ear, but I caught it all;)

  • i like elliott's cover of this

  • i cant hear a friggin word shes sayin.

  • listen to it on lo ~ u'LL get it ;)

  • nah i still cant hear it. the music is blending with the voices and its a jumbled sound.

I have nerve damage in my left ear so turning the volume down wouldnt help me. Hehe. But thanx anyway. Maybe Ill try again. ;)

  • ohh wow sorry to hear that. actually i meant to use another take of her flipping her hair, but this turned out photgraphically better. i agree it's too loud, but so was the flute she sez hehe :D

  • Hehe. Its okay. ;)

Yeha I agree this clip of her is good. Has a more artful look for the video.

Ah its okay about the sound. Hehe!

  • i added translation interview info @ top right===>>

(maybe i'll do it for the nico/warhol interview clip too i'm bored, lol)

i was still struggling w/audio issues during this uploading period lmao

  • You probably worked hard to get these done and I didnt mean to make it seem like a really bad thing..or..somethin.

    Thanx 4 the translation. Hehe.

  • no biggie! 'twas fun lol

  • I don't think I'd like the song without the flute.

  • really? it does add ...something... to the listening experience ~

  • Poor Nico hated that flute :(

Maybe it's just because she pointed out how much she disliked it, but now the flute sounds very out of place on the entire album to me

  • i'd like to hear it in pure acoustic form myself. tho the flute is pleasant, it's rather jarring in parts, seems too high in mix, & clashes with her unusual voice. reissue, please ;)

  • I agree, reissue!

  • i think Chelsea Girl is a great song .. rip sweet hert

  • amen!

  • Inaudible...

  • huh?
