Good video but I think you do this reload a disservice by calling it a "Competition" speed reload. First off I do not recommend this reload for IDPA. It usually ends in a "muzzle" command and a butt chewing from the RSO......ask me how i know. But, more importantly this is a very important reload to consider in a defensive situation because it allows you to keep eyes on a threat or threats as well as it helps you send that mag home.
Your absolutely right cowboy, this is not an IDPA legal reload (you are dropping a loaded magazine and not retaining it). However, this is the preferred method of reload for all other forms of competition. Not sure why the RO would call "muzzle" to you unless there is a rule I'm not savvy to in IDPA, as you are not breaking the 180. although the principle mechanic is similar to a defensive reload, the lack of retention of a loaded mag makes this reload very different and oriented toward comp.
Way to go 21st Century Gunfighter, It looks like you guys are real pros. I went back and watched others doing run and gun drills and nobody does the way you do your reload. Of course they'll say i already knew how and why to reload that way. Great tips and thanks for the info. Already a fan of your channel. And you can thank Nutnfancy for introducing me to you from his shot show 2012 video.
In IDPA if you shoot to slidelock you don't need to retain the mag do you?
