I find it interesting how some people are trying to create some kind of rivalry between the two bands. Most rationale people can easily enjoy both Chickenfoot and Van Halen.
Why do I feel like this band isnt as good as my art teacher said it was? I guess to many good people in one band is bad..... Oh never mind its the vocals.
I purchased the new VH album and it's mediocre at best, Roth sounds terrible. And while I have always enjoyed Ed's playing, Satriani is easily a notch above in ability and talent.
if these guys hadnt been former super band players this band would of never got big at all. Besides their bass rifts the lyrics suck and the music blows. Sucks they are using wash ups like this to lead rocklahoma. Sorry to all those who like them

Chickenfoot is/was supposed to be a fun band. They achieved that. What Van Halen is lacking, OK one thing of many, in their new album is the fun. To my knowledge most of the songs on the new VH are old demos, the songs that ended up on the cutting room floor. The songs that weren't good enough for the fans or the band the first time around. Great, recycled trash.
@SevenOfNone Did you actuually listen to any of their songs besides Tattoo? That's what one of the guys wrote on Ultimate-guitar. If you bought the deluxe version, they featured 4 extra songs/music videos which were in fact old songs, Panama and a three others were there. The actual music was completely new. It sounded mostly not too bad, DLR deff lost his voice from the previous years, but Eddie is still awesome, and now I hear that Micheal Anthony is coming back for backing vocals

One of the greatest things about this band is ZERO EGO. I love Van Halen, but EVH is an EGO Maniac, then Bring Diamond Dave back in, and WATCH OUT.... Alex is a great drummer, but he has always kind of just gone along for the ride. Never a break-out kind of guy like the rest.
Awesome sound, hard to come up with original classic rock that sounds this good. Some very cool cars in this vid but the most uncool is the Smart Car and that includes ranking below the forklift.

This is the first time I have seen Chickenfoot. I never knew they existed until I started reading Sammy Hagar's book Red.
Not impressed at all. I saw Joe play with Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai in G3 so I know Joe can play. I was expecting Chickenfoot to be Van Halen with Joe instead of Eddie but I was wrong. Sammy is what Sammy has always been since Montrose in this band but Joe did not live up to my expectations.
@Super1bigKahuna Not gonna disagree Chickenfoot isn't what it could be, however a band does have to be distinguished. It would NOT be a good thing if Chickenfoot was just a Van Halen clone with a new guitarist. Even if the fans WANT the same. You have to distinguish it.
(Oh and don't get me wrong, if this was new band I would love it, but I hear Chad Smith, Haggar, and gosh freaking Satriani, and I expect an album for the century)
All extremely well talented musicians but they dont seem to be able to write very well written songs :/ thats a shame because I know Smith is an Amazing drummer, Anthony a hell of a good bassist, Haggar a well singer (not ALL that good compared to Roth) and the guitarist (idk his name but) is what I've heard an incredibly good at playing. idk seems to me like wasted talent :/ sorry if you don't think so....

Facts prove what we already knew... VH sold more #1 albums (4 to be exact) when Sammy Haggar was the lead singer! Sammy sold more ablums and wrote more songs in the past 15 years then the VH brothers sitting around on their asses making money off their Greastes Hits album... if you call sitting around smoking and getting high and drunk all the time "trying" to do rehab a success and getting your kid to be your new bassiest when he sucks, then you have no clue at what success means...

Satch please go back on the G3 tour. That is the only way that I will pay to see you with well known musicians. Vai, Satriani and anybody else would be much more pleasant than to hear the same Sammy spiel. I know Roth has his typical bullshit but that era of Van Halen kicked ass. I wish Mikey would be back in the band but he made his choice sticking next to Sammy. Mikey is a class act. He doesn't act bitter like Hagar does. Eddie is the king of the band and he is what made VH special.

If this doesn't make you want to learn an instrument and form a band, I don't know what will. The sheer level of fun they are having is infectious, and seeing the evidence of that camaraderie elevates the music even further. Irregardless of your musical tastes, whether or not you think their product is good, you cannot deny the power of doing what you like.
I think most of you are missing the point: IT's all supposed to be fun. That's really it, everyone here is having a good time, the music is supposed to be, their jamming and laughing, the whole thing is just... fun. There's no real seriousness here.

One of the greatest things about this band is ZERO EGO. I love Van Halen, but EVH is an EGO Maniac, then Bring Diamond Dave back in, and WATCH OUT.... Alex is a great drummer, but he has always kind of just gone along for the ride. Never a break-out kind of guy like the rest.

This is the first time I have seen Chickenfoot. I never knew they existed until I started reading Sammy Hagar's book Red.
Not impressed at all. I saw Joe play with Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai in G3 so I know Joe can play. I was expecting Chickenfoot to be Van Halen with Joe instead of Eddie but I was wrong. Sammy is what Sammy has always been since Montrose in this band but Joe did not live up to my expectations.

@Super1bigKahuna Not gonna disagree Chickenfoot isn't what it could be, however a band does have to be distinguished. It would NOT be a good thing if Chickenfoot was just a Van Halen clone with a new guitarist. Even if the fans WANT the same. You have to distinguish it.
(Oh and don't get me wrong, if this was new band I would love it, but I hear Chad Smith, Haggar, and gosh freaking Satriani, and I expect an album for the century)

All extremely well talented musicians but they dont seem to be able to write very well written songs :/ thats a shame because I know Smith is an Amazing drummer, Anthony a hell of a good bassist, Haggar a well singer (not ALL that good compared to Roth) and the guitarist (idk his name but) is what I've heard an incredibly good at playing. idk seems to me like wasted talent :/ sorry if you don't think so....

Facts prove what we already knew... VH sold more #1 albums (4 to be exact) when Sammy Haggar was the lead singer! Sammy sold more ablums and wrote more songs in the past 15 years then the VH brothers sitting around on their asses making money off their Greastes Hits album... if you call sitting around smoking and getting high and drunk all the time "trying" to do rehab a success and getting your kid to be your new bassiest when he sucks, then you have no clue at what success means...

Satch please go back on the G3 tour. That is the only way that I will pay to see you with well known musicians. Vai, Satriani and anybody else would be much more pleasant than to hear the same Sammy spiel. I know Roth has his typical bullshit but that era of Van Halen kicked ass. I wish Mikey would be back in the band but he made his choice sticking next to Sammy. Mikey is a class act. He doesn't act bitter like Hagar does. Eddie is the king of the band and he is what made VH special.

If this doesn't make you want to learn an instrument and form a band, I don't know what will. The sheer level of fun they are having is infectious, and seeing the evidence of that camaraderie elevates the music even further. Irregardless of your musical tastes, whether or not you think their product is good, you cannot deny the power of doing what you like.
