All I am saying is that Russia is not a very ideological society. It is a nationalist society and if things changed in the top people´s opinions changes with the top. Israel is totally misjudged when it comes to support from EU and USA, almost a little bit scitzo..Israel is NOT the most important country in foreign policy, but EU and USA has changed a lot over the years and today almost all countries support Israel "behind the curtains". Turkey=huge problem, S Arabia is like waaay down the list.
@mannen33bast And all i'm saying is that blind nationalism is an ideology comparable to liberalism, socialism or communism. And in Russia's case, even economic decisions are heavily influenced by the nationalism of the government, and much more so than by any other socio-economical principle.
On the contrary, most countries today DEAL with Israel, but politically and economically, they have lost much support and credibility, to the point of narrowly avoiding...
@mannen33bast ...being branded as international war-criminals in 2005 or so and collecting more economic sanctions than Iran and North Korea together, only avoided thanks to US vetos. And about Saudi Arabia being a lesser risk... I'm not conviced. Their army is second only to Egypt in the middle east, and their position towards Israel is very clear. The US have kept a leash on them like they do with Turkey, but you never know when things can get ugly.
...just because it isn't a friend of the US. Russia has even done weapon deals with Israel, while selling rockets to Syria. Russia's on its own side and that's it, unless it becomes a Muslim state, and that isn't going to happen either. The US play that little game too : they are overly friendly towards Israel but are nearly equally supportive towards Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Here are your ruling governments that openly dislike Israel and they are majot allies of the US.
@OldDirtyRatbastard Yes and Iran need the same, stabilize its territory, and north Korea feels threatened by the south. NO Russia has the opportunity to do Everything different. You swallowed the easiest bate in history that Russia has never had a diffierent path to choose because of the oligarks. USA chose partnership with countries they dont have time to invade or need for a higher cause. Russia dont have such a cause to protect its border from injustices commited by the west. IRAN is an ally
@mannen33bast "You swallowed the easiest bate in history that Russia has never had a diffierent path to choose because of the oligarks" What the hell do you mean by that ?
...dislike NATO. It's that simple. It seemed to me, while reading your message, that you were implying that Russia should ditch agressive nationalism and "get back to the family", which, i suppose, means the West because of racial similarities. I'll say it again, ideology prevails over race, always, and Russia will remain antagonistic.
Your second message hints that you care quite a bit about Israel... I'm not judging thatn but Russia won't be "on the enemy's side"...
Old You keep on talking about Russia, adictator state like any state hamas would have created, where dissidents are sent to the mental hospital. Iran and north corea and china are natural allys cause they refuse to stand in its way for now. Israelis should be happy that you never became dependent on russia after the holocaust just because they saved many jews and kllled even more of its own people. Who is the enemy? Its easy they are communist states, rough states most are common to us.
@mannen33bast After the end of the cold war, Russia needed that dictature to get back on track, and it worked. A bankrupt country can't afford political dissidents. Just look at Ukraine to see how bad it could have become.
Yes Im just a pro -israeli racist bastard..of course. No old dirty ..They dont consider Ideology more important than Race The only Ideology in Russia is Nationalism. ...Perhaps in Israel and in the west....but when it comes to Russia The game is different. If they choose alliences based on Race so be it. Anything is better than having a world nuclear power on the enemys side. The very Existance of Israel is dependent on Tactics. You dont have the luxuary of being kind to your enemies.
@mannen33bast Didn't know you were pro Israel, even though you do have the profile, doesn't matter anyway. Now, what's that gibberish about ? You obviously see alliances as a product of races, that's moronic. Nationalism is an ideology, and not one based on races, that would be ethnic nationalism. Russia remains an antagonist to the west and attempts to preserve its own interests, it is only logical for its government to seek alliances with the countries that do the same.
@mannen33bast Israel has always badly needed a strong ally, that it has found in the United States. Make no mistake, that association isn't based on race or on ideology. If the communist bloc had been more eager to involve itself into the middle east than the US, then that would have been your alliance.
There's also something i don't understand : you say "on the enemys side"... What do you mean ? The cold war's over, there's no "enemy side". If you're referring...
@mannen33bast ...to Israel's enemies, then you should know that they have friends and enemies in both the West and the East : Kazakhstan is diplomatically close to Russia but largely approves of Israel while Saudi Arabia hates it while being a major ally of the US.
@OldDirtyRatbastard In Afghanistan Sweden´s closest ally in the region is the evil container man General dostum. My enemys enemy is not my friend always. That is arab thinking and the world is more complex today. Kurds dont like Israel cause you or usa give turkey weapons. Kurds like the fact that some coutries dont like iran and so on...Israel Does have enemies in the west but not from any ruling governmnet the last 50 years so that ís evidence enough how stong they are
@mannen33bast Whatever you say, i don't understand your English anyway. You started talking about Russia, i'm replying about Russia. As you correctly said yourself, the Russian official's policies are nationalist. After having been "out of the game" for two decades and having witnessed the expansion of NATO towards the East, it is logical for a nationalist country to attempt to regain its influence. Russia's doing just that by seeking allies among the countries that equally...
The russians need to calm down and coopersate more. Why the hell did we come this point in history. White russians ( pardon my racism ) could help the west in so many ways to create peace in the world and fight everything from terrorism to dictator states. But NO russia wanna be friends with zimbabwe, north korea iran...what is the problem with russia? Its 2010 now its time for russia to come back to the family....
@mannen33bast Pretty simple, most Russians aren't short sighted racist dumbasses like you. "Normal" people of all countries consider that IDEOLOGY, not race, is the most important. Russia has never been a part of the family and will never be, Russia isn't a "good" country. Zimbabwe, North Korea, Iran, and you can add China, India and Syria are some of its natural allies.
Russia's army is is a sad state, even Poland could hold them off. They could barely provide air cover in a war against tiny Georgia, a country without a single fighter aircraft. And the CAs they did have used WWII style unguided rockets and dumb-bombs. What chance do they have against F-22's and B-1's, or even F-16's and J-dams?
The RUssians didn't help the Georgians against teh Ottomans "why back" they joined with Russia for protection and the RUssians promtly used them as a buffer and left them out to dry.
hey SHOCKOLANU you say orthodox family?! your "orthodox mother russia" occupied georgia and they killed so many georgians. they destroyed Chechnya. and you call this orthodox christian?!
because government rather use all the money to get it self as many nuclear missiles, get brand new technology on fighting systems..and protect those who actually live in the country..so if someone like HITLER gets along he gets fucked up real quick, just like georgians and united states helped em, what did it last 3 days? But it is getting better, trust me , it will take another 5 or 6 years untill Russian Rubel gets even with united states dollar. Look at it this way 1 dollar equals 35 rubels!
Fuck you, bitch. Russia freed the Balkans from the Ottoman Rule. We are all thankful for that: Greeks, Bulgarians, FYROM, Serbians, Romanians. We will all defend Mother Russia because, we own our freedom to them. Not to America, not to NATO, not to Germany, not to anyone. Orthodox brothers will never forget what Russia has done for them! Where were you when you were needed?
You can whine about Iraq and point fingers all you want (which, BTW, amounts to nothing more than 'Well, they started it!' which is more common to 10 YEAR OLDS), but it doesn't change the fact that we are in Iraq LEGALLY NOW (doesn't matter what happened before) and Russia is in Georgia ILLEGALLY.
Again, you can point fingers and repeat past mistakes endlessly, but it doesn't change the fact the the US Occupation of Iraq is NOW legal and the Russian Occupation of Georgia is NOW illegal.
The American invasion of a sovereign nation (Iraq) was and is an illegal action, period.
The argument presented above can be extended into the current Georgian situation by stating that once the new maps are drawn up for South Ossetia and Abkhazia that the Russian action will be deemed legal by the new governments operating in what was formerly Georgian territory.
Most governments were under the (mistaken) impression (thanks to Colin Powell's UN propaganda) that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction and that a 45 minute launch into Europe was an immanent threat (even when British and American intelligence knew such to be fabrications). Many states knew better, but were marginalized. As for Russia caring about Iraq, well, few cared much about a tyrant (save for the fact that he was the legally recognized president). A lie is a lie; a crime is a crime.
The minute the UN recognized the US as the Legal Occupying force, it IMMEDIATELY legitimized the entire invasion. It seems to me as though the UN was more worried about who would pay, as opposed to who was lying.
And, before you say it, yes it was our responsibility to pay for the occupation.
nucflashevent: 'I don't care who lied or not. Our discussion is about legality.'
That's rich. Remember that the next time you or yours are personally faced with a grievous injustice (fate has a way of teaching interesting lessons).
A lie is a lie. A crime is a crime.
Iraqi blowback will eventually teach the Americans a lesson.
I could say the same thing of how the Russians treated former Czechoslovakia.
Their treatment during the Cold War is primarily why the Czechs are supporting our Missile Defense plans now.
That same sentiment could be used to justify ANY act of appeasement.
As for the lesson, you are probably right. Because of the way the War was handled, it will probably be sometime before the American people support helping anyone else.
Reuters (July 23, 2008): Prague - Czechs continued to reject US plans for building a missile shield radar base in the Czech Republic, according to a poll released Wednesday. Surveys by the state-funded CVVM polling institute show that more than 6 in 10 Czechs continue to reject the US plans.
The current Czech opposition is demanding a national referendum (as are the Poles in regard to the American missiles). The peoples will have their say before all is said and done.
And they are fearful enough of Russia to vote YES.
My question to you is IF (and I realize they could vote no) they vote yes, will you then recognize their choice as legitimate, or will you claim it is just some Western (read U.S.) Conspiracy?
It seems no matter what happens, people are not satisfied until they point the finger at the U.S. for ALL the Worlds problems.
The Czech government conducted an $900,000 information campaign to support the US plan to set up the radar station, but most Czechs do not trust Washington's justification for the radar. The polls already show strong opposition to the American plans. Even the right-wing media have cautioned the government. When put to a referendum (should such occur) the Americans will have to cut a new deal (bribe another party) elsewhere. As for fear, Czechs fear the EU Lisbon Treaty more than Russia.
In politics nothing is given without something in return. The radar deal is not a humanitarian endeavor. The so-called elites of the Czech Republic and Poland signed deals with American elites, that is, without the consent of their constituencies. That is about to change. Neither country will likely alter their views (but anything can happen). As for negative perceptions pertaining to US integrity, such can be traced back to the illegal Iraqi invasion. Bullies seldom enjoy meaningful relations.
Before Iraq, people bitched because we supported Israel. Before Israel, people bitched because of WWII.
It just seems as though it has become the permanent catchall to 'Blame the US' anytime something doesn't go someone's way.
THIS (and not some bulls__t conspiracy between 'American and foreign elites - do you know how stupid that sounds -) is American Bias is PRECISELY why the US regards the UN as second when it comes to fielding criticism.
Negative perceptions of American foreign policy e.g., Central America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Eurasia, are reflections of just that, reactions to actions taken by those within American economic/political institutions promoting their national interests beyond their own borders (usually with force).
Indeed, the US does not respect the UN. Why? Because UN is not letting US to use the huge american military power (look at US military spendings!!!). American dream: the world without UN. I think, the world with UN, but without US would be a better place.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Then you are stupid.
The World would tear itself apart without the United States, Russia, China, Great Britain, and France.
Coincidentally, THEY are the five permanent members of the United Nations. I wonder why?
P.S. The UN CAN'T stop the US from doing ANYTHING. We do what WE DEEM FIT for OUR National Interest. To do anything else is disrespecting OUR rights as a SOVEREIGN NATION.
So why does US bitch when other nations do what they fit deem for THEIR national interest?
What is the point in UN in the first place then? You say World would tear itself apart w/o those five permanent members but you say UN is not respected. Then lets just form UN of those 5 nations and be done with it. To hell with other UN representatives, to hell with letting other countries be heard? Forward with Bush's Democracy?
I'm saying those Five Nations MAKE THEIR OWN DEALS regardless of the UN, even if the UN gets the credit.
Accept for making one another look bad, no one who needs the UN, can really be helped by the UN. If you need the UN to help protect you, you are probably on the s__t list of one of the Five Permanent Members.
You'd be better try and seek protection from one of the other Four Permanent Members.
Simple fact: US invasion of Iraq was not authorized by the UN. Everybody can use that fact to conclude that US-americans are war criminals. Therefore, US-americans would prefer a chaotic legal system, so that nobody can accuse them of war crimes. Moreover, McCain's proposal is to replace UN by the "league of democratic states". What for? In order to start WWIII.
The SECOND UNSC Resolution 1790 passed, it IMMEDIATELY legitimized our presence there.
I know you don't care for that. But you not caring for it (or anyone else, for that matter not caring for it) DOES NOT change the fact that we are now LEGALLY in Iraq and will be UNTIL THE IRAQIS ask us to leave.
you can do many thing which are legal, and everything is just fine. But once you've committed a crime, you are a criminal. If you rob somebody on a street then you are a criminal, even if you stop robbing for some time.
We didn't 'just stop' as you say. To finish your analogy, this is as id we were 'acquitted' by the court.
You see, if you are acquitted, IT IS AS IF YOU NEVER COMMITTED A CRIME.
One more time, I'm going to repeat. The SECOND the 1790 passed, we CEASED breaking International Law. From that moment on, we were a LEGAL occupation.
An occupation, I might add, that no with half a brain doubts was needed at the time.
Aside from their politicians extending corporate socialist interests beyond their borders (overtly or covertly, and often through brutal force), most peoples on this planet actually like Americans and their culture. That the USofA has not generated enormous good on this planet would be a disservice to the truth; but that shadowy elements within the American government have not committed unspeakable acts of evil would likewise be dishonest.
A poll conducted at the time by The New York Times and CBS News showed even less support for the US-led war. Approximately 2 out of 3 respondents wanted the government to wait for the UN inspections to end, and only 31% supported using military force immediately. Interestingly, this same poll showed that a majority of Americans believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. US officials downplayed this shift in public opinion, claiming it was not a true reflection of the public mood.
The Russians (and Saudis) strongly opposed the Americans in their build-up to an illegal invasion of Iraq. When it became increasingly clear that Cheney/Bush intended to launch its socalled liberation of Iraq (despite objections from both Moscow, and Riyadh) Putin switched from seeing America as a potential ally against Saudi Arabia to seeing Saudi Arabia as a potential ally against America (a case of geopolitics).
CNS at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (2003): Although Russia, as a permanent UNSC member, had the power to block any U.S.-backed proposal, it never resorted to using its veto power. In part this may have been due to the fear that the United States would proceed unilaterally. The Russian veto would result in a deterioration of its relationship with the United States, an outcome it wants to avoid.
wyrd., Thanks for posting the facts as seen internationaly and not in Mainstream Media in the States. Your stateing the USA would act on itself has been demonstated as to this push for world domination in first the resources of other nations.
Also as seen with this Lisbon treaty how it was ramed down the throats of Europe buy the tactics used much like what got Bush re_elected. The Patriot antimissle shield was similar to what Canada was forced to accept in the late 50z earloy 60z with Bomark
Canada is just another puppet state, our nation is populated by eplsilon semi-morons living on a steady diet of CiaNN FIXed Newbs DICKtatorship Tell Lie Vision for the Jew World Order.

lol isn't it awesome that starcatcher can come up with the most irrelevant and retarded crap when ever he can't answer a question or knows that he is wrong.
For Christ sake that last post looked like he was throwing random words around in hoping to get a sentence.
Im no refugee ..I'm a veteran .. served in the U.S. Army .. and tried to re-enlist after 911. but was to old. 42 at the time. Used to believe ... in America .. but now know it was all a sham. Twin Tower's was an inside job .. Bush is a Mass Murderer, Haliburton just stole 10 Trillion Dollar from the U.S. Treasury. The leaders Bush Cheney McCain don't give a shit about America .. all the want is to concentrate the power in there corner.
The People of America have been forsaken. NAFTA .. free trade gutted our industrial base. PUTIN ... cares about his country and people. He prefers " PROTECTIONISM " no outsourcing. Russia retains the capacity to manufacture and produce everything they need.
Russia has already won this war. The U.S. does not stand a chance in hell.
Russia has no right to dictate to Georgia who they associate with. Georgia is free to join NATO if it so chooses.
Russia does not have a God given right to ONLY have Russian-Friendly Governments on it's borders. For some reason, they seem to think it a Cardinal sin for a country on their border to have friendly relations with the West (be it the United States directly, NATO or the EU apparently).
America has no right to dictate to Iraq who they associate with. Iraq was a sovereign nation before it was illegally invaded based on forged documents and mushroom cloud fear mongering.
America does not have a God given right to ONLY have American-Friendly Governments anywhere on the planet. For some reason, they seem to think it a Cardinal sin for any country to have friendly relations with those that do not share the same corporate interests.
America dictates nothing to Iraq. If we could, DO YOU THINK WE WOULD *LET* THEM INTERACT WITH IRAN!
It doesn't change the fact that NOW we have a UN mandate to be in Iraq, and soon we will have a legal framework (from the Iraqis no less) to STAY in Iraq until probably 2011.
Russia had nothing but the desire to show the World "See, we can invade too!"
nato loses more in this conflickt then russia why nato should be usa's pupet and obey every american comand if nato would coperate with russia i think the wolrd would be a bether place
Lets be honest here.Russia does not need NATO in any way.NATO needs Russian cooperation very much.
With all the conflicts NATO is in now.How easy it would be for Russia to make it a living hell for them.
Imagine arming the Taliban with modern weapons and anti aircraft missiles as the US did to the USSR during their war in afghan.Or passing weapons to Iran and Syria so that they can pass them on to groups in Iraq.
That's how it was done during the cold war and easy to restart it again.
this is essentially a twenty six second threat/ dictation. since when did dictating to other countries with veiled threats achieve anything. meaningful negotiation is what I respect, talk to me as an equal then I will treat you as an equal. discuss and we will achieve, throw threats and you hit a brick wall.
Hopefully NATO will take some time to carefully consider the situation before rushing to make a bad decision. A country that attacks people without provocation should not be given recognition by NATO!
The time is nigh for ethics to overtake power and we must focus our ying/yang energies to defeat the church of Lucifer and trust in the power of the Most High. We soon shall be conscious co-creators and we can save ourselves from this mess. Less than 3 more years and we will know our path. Beware of those who claim virtue, honor, purity, and to be good. You shall know them by their deeds, not by their hats.
Our government might be not perfect but it at least is democratically (I hope you know what it means) elected and isn't the part of some authoritarian apparatus that controls all media.
And please stop making stupid personal remarks. You sure know crap about me or my (un)education.
Why are americans so active in Georgia? To push Europe against Russia! But Europeans do not want any confrontation with Russia. Particularly, Europeans are not eager to make Europe to the battlefield.
UNSC Resolution 1790: "Reaffirming the independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Iraq, and reaffirming further the importance of the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of Iraq..."
Apparently this sort of political reasoning did not exist prior to the illegal American invasion (based on forged documents pertaining to mythical weapons of mass destruction, and an echo chamber media campaign promoting the fear of mushroom clouds over American cities).
UNSC Resolution 1790: "Reaffirming also the right of the Iraqi people freely to determine their own political future and control their own national resources..."
All with the brokered assistance of the US Department of Defense (acting on behalf of the Anglo-American oil cartels in the capacity of advisor in the ongoing legal proceedings).
Nice conspiracy theory (I guess that makes Russia's attempt to ANNIHILATE Georgia's Economy seem more palatable), but it's backed up with nothing but innuendo and wishful thinking.
Asia Times (08/12/08): The leaders of the Georgian opposition nearly succeeded in toppling Saakashvili last autumn. The president was forced to impose military rule in Tbilisi, while his former defense minister Okruashvili, publicly accused him of murder and corruption. Public opinion in Georgia already pins the blame on Saakashvili for the folly and loss of the Ossetian adventure. Even before it began last week, opposition leaders were calling for an end to the militarization of the country.
AT THIS TIME Saakashvili is STILL the ELECTED leader of Georgia and he has the right to align his country WITH WHOMEVER HE SEES FIT. If the Georgian's do not like his leadership, they have a perfect right to have him removed.
Until they do, we have no right or obligation to consider any other leader's opinion regarding Georgia but his.
Washington Post (September 8, 2008): That point was made in Washington by Nino Burjanadze, the former speaker of the Georgian parliament who broke with her old ally last spring and created the Tblisi-based Foundation for Democracy and Development to address the glaring weaknesses in Georgia's new politics. She's been advocating for a freer press, more independent judges, and a more powerful and independent parliament, the absence of which opened the way to Saakashvili's Ossetian blunder.
Agreed (for such is politics). However, NATO remains divided over additional memberships in the region and any promises at this point amount to face saving lip service. The bottom line is that the rational elements within the EU want to avoid confrontation with Russia.
Actually, he's a dry drunk (when he does drink he dances solo in public or cuts himself or falls over repeatedly leaving his handlers to tell reporters that he choked on pretzels, and so forth).
That "Dry Drunk" managed to goad Russia into doing EXACTLY what we needed.
Russia managed to do in 6 days what George Bush couldn't do in almost 3 years.
The ONLY reason out Missile Defense system is finally being deployed in Poland is because the Poles (the Government AND the people) have finally come to understand they have FAR MORE to fear from Russia (as is shown in Georgia) than they have from the United States.
Cheney/Bush and their ilk will have to wait for the Polish Parliament to ratify the deal (following a Polish review from lower house and a national referendum, and not before light is shed on the brokering of the deal, as in review of all relevant documents). When the peoples of Poland have all the relevant facts to consider, the Americans will have to brainstorm another plan.
Dry Drunk Syndrome and George W. Bush: Dry drunk is a slang term used by members and supporters of Alcoholics Anonymous and substance abuse counselors to describe the recovering alcoholic who is no longer drinking, one who is dry, but whose thinking is clouded. Such an individual is said to be dry but not truly sober. Such an individual tends to go to extremes.
The traits of Dry Drunk Syndrome consist of: Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity Grandiose behavior A rigid, judgmental outlook Impatience Childish behavior Irresponsible behavior Irrational rationalization Projection Overreaction Clearly, George W. Bush has all these traits (except exaggerated self importance).
Bush's personal history relevant to drinking/drug use. From Fortunate Son, Bush later explained:
"Alcohol began to compete with my energies....I'd lose focus." Although he once said he couldn't remember a day he hadn't had a drink, he added that he didn't believe he was "clinically alcoholic." Even his father, who had known for years that his son had a serious drinking problem, publicly proclaimed: "He was never an alcoholic. It's just he knows he can't hold his liquor."
American corporate socialist interests did not complain about a drunk Boris Yeltsin because in his inebriated state he willingly agreed to a sell-off Russia's major industries. A sober Mr Putin put an end to such practices.
Not much the Fat Yanks can do .. The American Economy is about to Collapse. It's being propped up right now to get McCain in. Then after the election it will fall.
Russia Georgia Eu China and USA politicunts are the same bunch of criminals controlled by the same bankers.
Cold war is just another way to control people trough fear and lies. Cuba will be the next country armed with nuclear missiles, the politicunts need it to scare Americans in to submission to the NWOshitbags. It won't take long before the people will take arms and start to shoot those bankers and politicunts terrorists.
The only alternative is the opening of the Pandora.
The United States government would not be happy if Russia set up camp in Cuba. (Hey, history CAN repeat itself.) So, why do they think it's okay to have so many troops and allies and bases right in Russia's back yard?
I'm guessing you didn't watch the Olympics in Beijing.
I don't worry about the circles of influence outside of my immediate control too much. I embrace my limitedness. If others did too we might have less conflicts.

If the communist bloc had been more eager to involve itself into the middle east than the US, then that would have been your alliance.
There's also something i don't understand : you say "on the enemys side"... What do you mean ? The cold war's over, there's no "enemy side". If you're referring...
OldDirtyRatbastard 1 year ago

Its 2010 now its time for russia to come back to the family....
mannen33bast 1 year ago

You can whine about Iraq and point fingers all you want (which, BTW, amounts to nothing more than 'Well, they started it!' which is more common to 10 YEAR OLDS), but it doesn't change the fact that we are in Iraq LEGALLY NOW (doesn't matter what happened before) and Russia is in Georgia ILLEGALLY.
Again, you can point fingers and repeat past mistakes endlessly, but it doesn't change the fact the the US Occupation of Iraq is NOW legal and the Russian Occupation of Georgia is NOW illegal.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
The American invasion of a sovereign nation (Iraq) was and is an illegal action, period.
The argument presented above can be extended into the current Georgian situation by stating that once the new maps are drawn up for South Ossetia and Abkhazia that the Russian action will be deemed legal by the new governments operating in what was formerly Georgian territory.
wyrd24 3 years ago
I doubt that.
Our Occupation is LEGAL because the UN SAYS IT'S LEGAL, not because we just say so.
I would be VERY SURPRISED, having Veto authority as we do, if Russia were allowed such a privilege.
I could say that if Russia really cared about Iraq, they could have Vetoed our Occupation Resolution, too.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
Most governments were under the (mistaken) impression (thanks to Colin Powell's UN propaganda) that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction and that a 45 minute launch into Europe was an immanent threat (even when British and American intelligence knew such to be fabrications). Many states knew better, but were marginalized. As for Russia caring about Iraq, well, few cared much about a tyrant (save for the fact that he was the legally recognized president). A lie is a lie; a crime is a crime.
wyrd24 3 years ago
I don't care who lied or not.
Our discussion is about legality.
The minute the UN recognized the US as the Legal Occupying force, it IMMEDIATELY legitimized the entire invasion. It seems to me as though the UN was more worried about who would pay, as opposed to who was lying.
And, before you say it, yes it was our responsibility to pay for the occupation.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
nucflashevent: 'I don't care who lied or not. Our discussion is about legality.'
That's rich. Remember that the next time you or yours are personally faced with a grievous injustice (fate has a way of teaching interesting lessons).
A lie is a lie. A crime is a crime.
Iraqi blowback will eventually teach the Americans a lesson.
wyrd24 3 years ago
I could say the same thing of how the Russians treated former Czechoslovakia.
Their treatment during the Cold War is primarily why the Czechs are supporting our Missile Defense plans now.
That same sentiment could be used to justify ANY act of appeasement.
As for the lesson, you are probably right. Because of the way the War was handled, it will probably be sometime before the American people support helping anyone else.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
Reuters (July 23, 2008): Prague - Czechs continued to reject US plans for building a missile shield radar base in the Czech Republic, according to a poll released Wednesday. Surveys by the state-funded CVVM polling institute show that more than 6 in 10 Czechs continue to reject the US plans.
The current Czech opposition is demanding a national referendum (as are the Poles in regard to the American missiles). The peoples will have their say before all is said and done.
wyrd24 3 years ago
And they are fearful enough of Russia to vote YES.
My question to you is IF (and I realize they could vote no) they vote yes, will you then recognize their choice as legitimate, or will you claim it is just some Western (read U.S.) Conspiracy?
It seems no matter what happens, people are not satisfied until they point the finger at the U.S. for ALL the Worlds problems.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
The Czech government conducted an $900,000 information campaign to support the US plan to set up the radar station, but most Czechs do not trust Washington's justification for the radar. The polls already show strong opposition to the American plans. Even the right-wing media have cautioned the government. When put to a referendum (should such occur) the Americans will have to cut a new deal (bribe another party) elsewhere. As for fear, Czechs fear the EU Lisbon Treaty more than Russia.
wyrd24 3 years ago
Just answered my question.
Even if the public supports it, people such as yourself will just be convinced the United States "bribed another party".
This is precisely why the United States has no respect for the UN. This is precisely why President Clinton went to NATO to deal with Serbia in '99.
You seem to think we should either feel guilty or admit some wrong doing or else 'We're bad people'.
We've done nothing but tried to help people THE BEST WAY WE KNEW HOW. Sorry that we're not perfect.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
In politics nothing is given without something in return. The radar deal is not a humanitarian endeavor. The so-called elites of the Czech Republic and Poland signed deals with American elites, that is, without the consent of their constituencies. That is about to change. Neither country will likely alter their views (but anything can happen). As for negative perceptions pertaining to US integrity, such can be traced back to the illegal Iraqi invasion. Bullies seldom enjoy meaningful relations.
wyrd24 3 years ago
Bullshit!
Before Iraq, people bitched because we supported Israel. Before Israel, people bitched because of WWII.
It just seems as though it has become the permanent catchall to 'Blame the US' anytime something doesn't go someone's way.
THIS (and not some bulls__t conspiracy between 'American and foreign elites - do you know how stupid that sounds -) is American Bias is PRECISELY why the US regards the UN as second when it comes to fielding criticism.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
Negative perceptions of American foreign policy e.g., Central America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Eurasia, are reflections of just that, reactions to actions taken by those within American economic/political institutions promoting their national interests beyond their own borders (usually with force).
wyrd24 3 years ago 2
nucflashevent.
Indeed, the US does not respect the UN. Why? Because UN is not letting US to use the huge american military power (look at US military spendings!!!). American dream: the world without UN. I think, the world with UN, but without US would be a better place.

To do anything else is disrespecting OUR rights as a SOVEREIGN NATION.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
So why does US bitch when other nations do what they fit deem for THEIR national interest?
What is the point in UN in the first place then? You say World would tear itself apart w/o those five permanent members but you say UN is not respected. Then lets just form UN of those 5 nations and be done with it. To hell with other UN representatives, to hell with letting other countries be heard? Forward with Bush's Democracy?
pidjunk 3 years ago 2
No Sir.

HerrMoppel 3 years ago
Doesn't mean shit.
You, nor Russia, have ANY SAY in the matter.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
nucflashevent,
you can do many thing which are legal, and everything is just fine. But once you've committed a crime, you are a criminal. If you rob somebody on a street then you are a criminal, even if you stop robbing for some time.
HerrMoppel 3 years ago
People such as yourself don't seem to understand.
An occupation, I might add, that no with half a brain doubts was needed at the time.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
nucflashevent,
You suppose resolution 1790 was some kind of amnesty which decriminalizes the event of occupation? Fine.
HerrMoppel 3 years ago
Aside from their politicians extending corporate socialist interests beyond their borders (overtly or covertly, and often through brutal force), most peoples on this planet actually like Americans and their culture. That the USofA has not generated enormous good on this planet would be a disservice to the truth; but that shadowy elements within the American government have not committed unspeakable acts of evil would likewise be dishonest.
wyrd24 3 years ago
A poll conducted at the time by The New York Times and CBS News showed even less support for the US-led war. Approximately 2 out of 3 respondents wanted the government to wait for the UN inspections to end, and only 31% supported using military force immediately. Interestingly, this same poll showed that a majority of Americans believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. US officials downplayed this shift in public opinion, claiming it was not a true reflection of the public mood.
wyrd24 3 years ago
The Russians (and Saudis) strongly opposed the Americans in their build-up to an illegal invasion of Iraq. When it became increasingly clear that Cheney/Bush intended to launch its socalled liberation of Iraq (despite objections from both Moscow, and Riyadh) Putin switched from seeing America as a potential ally against Saudi Arabia to seeing Saudi Arabia as a potential ally against America (a case of geopolitics).
wyrd24 3 years ago 2
True. About the opposition at least, I have no idea about Russia's Geopolitical aims.
But they did oppose the invasion, you are correct.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
CNS at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (2003): Although Russia, as a permanent UNSC member, had the power to block any U.S.-backed proposal, it never resorted to using its veto power. In part this may have been due to the fear that the United States would proceed unilaterally. The Russian veto would result in a deterioration of its relationship with the United States, an outcome it wants to avoid.
wyrd24 3 years ago

Russia has no right to dictate to Georgia who they associate with. Georgia is free to join NATO if it so chooses.
Russia does not have a God given right to ONLY have Russian-Friendly Governments on it's borders. For some reason, they seem to think it a Cardinal sin for a country on their border to have friendly relations with the West (be it the United States directly, NATO or the EU apparently).
I don't where that comes from.

America has no right to dictate to Iraq who they associate with. Iraq was a sovereign nation before it was illegally invaded based on forged documents and mushroom cloud fear mongering.

Even before it began last week, opposition leaders were calling for an end to the militarization of the country.
wyrd24 3 years ago 3
Close only counts in Horseshoes.
He asked for Aid, we provided it.
nucflashevent 3 years ago
Washington Post (September 8, 2008): That point was made in Washington by Nino Burjanadze, the former speaker of the Georgian parliament who broke with her old ally last spring and created the Tblisi-based Foundation for Democracy and Development to address the glaring weaknesses in Georgia's new politics. She's been advocating for a freer press, more independent judges, and a more powerful and independent parliament, the absence of which opened the way to Saakashvili's Ossetian blunder.
wyrd24 3 years ago 2
You're probably right. I've got NO PROBLEM whatsoever with the GEORGIAN'S removing Saakashvili.
But until they do, we have NO OBLIGATION to do anything other than accept his words as those of the Georgian people.
If he wishes to bring Georgia into NATO, we have an obligation to act accordingly to his request.

Uh, yes, I'm aware what "Dry Drunk" means.

At least he isn't going to appoint himself Secretary of Defense AFTER he leaves office.
NOW! Who was it that appointed himself Prime Minister after he left...

So what's your point.
Even if you are right about George Bush (and I would disagree about your assumptions, but for the sake of argument...)
Boris Yeltsin was a WET Drunk in office, you didn't see us complaining :).

American corporate socialist interests did not complain about a drunk Boris Yeltsin because in his inebriated state he willingly agreed to a sell-off Russia's major industries. A sober Mr Putin put an end to such practices.

Yeah,...I always like Boris Yeltsin.
I thought he and Clinton had a good rapport.

Hopefully soon.
