I used to have this great MIDI soundfont and this song sounded totally awesome with it. Heartbeat noises and electric guitar and all that. Sadly, I have lost the soundfont and can't find it anywhere :(

Then again, they DID take away Bapohomet's titties, so I wouldn't be surprised.

The Maidens are still present, blood splatters and all. Though they have a more ghostly look about them now.

They also show up in areas BESIDES the sacrificial pit, which REALLY adds to the Confusion Gate's creep factor.

Sad, creepy, and infuriating. I can't hate this piece for what it is, but the field it represents...oh God do I hate Confusion Gate.

The only creepy part of this place was Shu and the sacrificing, the music reminds me I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the hellhole and redoing puzzles over and over again, it just pisses me off.

This track relies heavily on the lead synthesizer sound and how it's swiftly and accurately modulated on the fly. The remix version doesn't have even nearly as precise a leading sound to build on.

Actually, while the remixed version is not creepy in any way, it does have epicness. So, if, for some strange reason, you dislike this one, then try that one.

@NARFNra I like both, in different ways. This version is very chillingly creepy, especially how many of its notes are so high compared to the rest of the soundtrack.

On the other hand, the other version just sounds epically EVIL.

I don't think it sounds creepy... I think it sounds somewhat sad.

OTOH, I haven't really played La-Mulana, only listened to the incredibly kickass soundstrack, so... maybe it's creepier in-game.

As stated in the description, the virgins leaping to their death onto a pit of spikes to explode in a bloody mess really adds to the ambience.

@tamahagane Also the place being a teleport maze that messes with your sense of direction, having grinning, leering faces coming out of the wall, the simultaneously dreary and alien color scheme, and yeah, the endless parade of calmly marching sacrifices whose blood heals the miniboss below doesn't hurt.
