Hi, I have the same problem as shortiejamz, my kooiker Terra doesn't want to jump of me whatever I do. This is for the knee vault, he is comfortable jumping on my back (backstall) although I have not yet tried back vaults. I tried to set him really close and have the disc as far and high as possible but he got springs as legs :) he can still get it in one jump! I had a session when I stood up and he did jump of me a bit, but not of my knee and it was more like a reverse vault(only too straight)
@Leevithedog Try make sure you have him in a down sit position and like right next to your knee. Or if he can jump that high do a standing knee vault. But do not let him have the disc unless he uses your knee to jump for it. Do takes where you hold the disc in your hand and put it out there quickly and far enough out of his reach where he has to use your leg to go get it. Or do a video if this does not work and send it to me and I will see if I can help you out.
I have been trying to teach my dog the vault for a couple weeks now, and when I get down like that, she always jumps OVER my leg! I have been doing it where I put her front paws up on my leg so it forces her to vault, but I don't know if she is catching on as well. Any advice? She is EXTREMELY intelligent, but I'm not sure if she gets this!
@shortiejamz Hi You are really going to have to I believe put Shortie I believe this might be your pups name. Put Shortie very close to you in a sit position. Shortie will keep trying to jump instead of vault as long as Shortie things they can do that. THat is part of that mentality of getting there as quick as they possibly can since Vaulting is something you teach them more then their normal just jump to get someone where.
@shortiejamz Part 2 So with you either way put shortie on your left side to begin with and either pull your left knee up and put your left heel on your left knee and with shortie in a seated position have the disc in your right hand and now have shortie jump up to get it. If it is not in the right spot shortie will jump for it.Shortie needs to realize he has to vault off your leg to get it that jumping for it just wont work.
@shortiejamz Part3 Remember it is not all about height also it can be extended out towards the right some also. Also if Shortie is smaller then try this by getting on both knees then extend your left knee out with your left foot on the ground and put shortie still up close to it in a seated position. Let me know. And be patience remember training sessions brief. If my dogs do it right I add each day to the success.
@nataliawasilewska97 Debatable but I have heard the same. I think Females are just as athletic but in just my opinion can be a little more stubborn at times. But that is just my view.
Thank you so much. You'd be amazed at how hard I have looked for basic vaulting instruction. My dog is 15 months old and is doing very well at the basics, on-the-ground. But you can see how much he wants to be airborne and I'm eager for the day we start vaulting.
Awesome! I like the leg vault, the other ones scare me. I will try this one. Would it be helpful if my dog could jump into my arms first? Is there a step prior to this that would help me. Bandit does not like to put his hind legs on us. Not sure why?? He is weird! Thanks! 5*s and a fav
awesome explanation! I love how you switch between talking to us and talking to Irish and not beeing afraid of using that high voice in front of the camera! I bet your dog loves you for it!
nice! i plan on doing more vaulting in future so this video helped me a little :) haha sui is a messy jumper and i'm not a very good thrower, though :P
