If you still have the catalytic converter, nothing you do will make it as loud as this car. The converter with NO mufflers will not be as loud as this car. A "high-flow" cat will allow for a louder exhaust note. A straight-through muffler will typically be loudest. In most applications, the shorter the muffler, the louder it will be.
If the converter has been removed, use short glass pack mufflers or "race" mufflers for the loudest sound. Check local laws! I'd use 2 1/4" pipes on that engine.
@WaldronExhaust there is not point in changing or removing a catalytic converter since they do not create back pressure so they do not effect the power or noise coming from an engine
I have a question, I have a 1970 cadillac coupe deville, automatic, with a stock 472 and 375 horses, I really want to put glass packs on it, do you think it would sound just as mean as this firebird?
Your Cadillac won't be this loud if you use longer glass packs, but if you use short (12" to 16") glass packs it will come close to this sound (I am assuming your engine's compression ratio is about 10:1).
The tailpipes on this car are very short; I would assume that the longer tailpipes on your Caddy would also make a more mellow sound.
When we made the video, the engine only had a few miles on it and we were breaking it in gently. Now it's broken in but the car has a totally different system on it.
One of these days we'll throw this system back on and make some real noise!
The louvers inside the glass packs can be installed so the exhaust flows "into" the open face of the louver or "over" the smooth, back side of the face.
My friends car is louder than this lmao.

I have a '79 Firebird with a 403, the compression is 8:1 I believe. What would you suggest for the meanest, loudest sound?

forestell 2 years ago
4 cylinders should not have loud exhaust. Going to sound like shit no matter what you do to it...
bigchevy80 2 years ago
@SummerTheFuzzy if you want ur mk4 golf to be and sound cool dont go with glasspacks, spend the money and ger a full racing exhaust with a header.

No, not a lot of popping. But they are loud; it's a little difficult to tell from the video, but they are "wake the neighbors" loud.
WaldronExhaust 3 years ago
You must be running a n x-pipe? You really don't get much for popping with those glass packs..
hawk7900 3 years ago
Atrocious sounding indeed, never liked
the glasspacks til I heard this.
What kind of crossover and headers
are you runnin on that thing?
damnmaggot 3 years ago
Not headers, but "factory" Pontiac Ram Air long-branch cast iron manifolds. No crossover or X pipe of any kind.

what do you mean "flow is over the center tube louvers?"
LaOnicap1972 3 years ago
The louvers inside the glass packs can be installed so the exhaust flows "into" the open face of the louver or "over" the smooth, back side of the face.
