i don't know how many times i have listened to this song, it pulls at the heart strings, and i will be back to listen to it again, a lovely and tragic song, brilliant singing and playing from the lads.
Thank God Derek has left us a legacy of wonderful songs. I particularly love this song because it reminds me of my mum who died in 2009. It reminds us that love conquers death.
Sharon, that is so cool. I really miss going to that Irish festival. We have an Irish pub right down the street call Rasher Tierney's. I've only been there once, though. I'll never forget how we used to make our kids listen to "Mam's Lullibye"
@veryharsh1 i also had the pleasure of working with derek in the late 80's an absolute gentleman, brillaint singer , and what bass player he truely never got the recognition he should have he is dearly missed.
I first met Derek in the 80ths and I loved his voice from the beginning. He was the best ballad singer ever and he was very nice person. R I P Derek. God be with you.
Can't begin to tell you how much I love this song, I don't think anyone could ever sing it better than Derek, so sad he has passed away, but his music will live on for ever.
A wonderful song! as for the singer, the late Derek McCormack of Barleycorn, he had without doub't the best melodic voice in Ireland...A superb performer...

Derek McCormac is my great uncle, he sang "Cavan Girl" at my grandmothers funeral. God rest his soul.
