  • although i know its not server room but its cool to own a copy of windows server 2003

  • this looks like an amateur server room!,still look kinda cool!

  • Actually windows home server is good here...

  • Wasted money installing an expensive OS on a dell dimension lower end computer...

  • Office 2007...... on a server? :)

  • @Sasquatch279 You're absolutely right, that even more so these days, without driver or specific hardware support, there will be a struggle to get things working, but my point to these guys, is that any hardware performing server roles, is a server. Regardless of OS, and whether it be a desktop case or a 1u rack mount.

Any room I use to house and run my server collection becomes the server room.

  • OK, sorry if my comment offended anyone, wasn't really supposed to be like that. Even so, I think the amount of people who agree, out rules the number who don't.

  • A server is a server is a server. The word is not defined by the hardware, it's defined by the tasks and roles the OS provides in conjunction with the hardware, and It doesn't have to be enterprise class gear to qualify.

Even my internet modem is a server. It serves addresses via dhcp, right?

Is a Dell poweredge running a desktop OS, is a desktop machine, or a server? Obviously, it's NOT a server. Of course, it can do that, if needed.

  • What type of a server is this?I prefer blade servers with thin clients.

  • his domain: help.me

  • This is not a server room. PERIOD!

  • Thats an Home Server so dont flame!!!

  • haha "Server Room" with Office installed on Server 2003. Oh and 1 server/old desktop. lol

  • Relax everyone, at one time or another everyone considers there first network setup as a grand setup and him installing Windows Server 03 on a Dell is a great practice and learning experience. You can install Office on a Server environment, if you truly understood anything about server environments, you would not response with a stupid comment. Nice little setup, keep up the good work and ignore these idiots. I'm a Cisco Network Engineer, the best practice is hands on experience at times!

  • @itpos

i agree my fist server room was my bed room with 2 sun cobalt RAQ servers

now i have a 42U rack with HP IBM and Dell servers

keep it up you will get there

something you can try m8 with ofice installed you can host it over the network so all your comps have it without having to install on all comps give it a try

  • Office 2007? No photoshop? Damn dude, every good server has photo shop...

  • This is more like a desktop rather than server. Installing Windows Server doesnt make you a data center.

  • What's the problem with having office on a server? Perhaps he has thinclients or winterminals that he wants to use office on? Personally I'd use virtualization in that case, however since that computer that he has running w2k server probably isn't powerful enough to run virtual machines, there is nothing wrong with logging into the server to remote access applications - an application server for thin clients or older systems using mstsc , etc

  • I HAVE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING BUT ACCTUALLY HAVE OTHER COMPUTERS RUNNING ON THE DOMAIN AND MINE IS TOTTALY WIRELESS AND I HAVE 2 WIRELSS ROUTERS TO RUN LAPTOPS ON THE DOMAIN THE DOMAIN CONTROLLER AKA SERVER 2008 ENTERPRISE I HAVE ASSIGNED NETWORK DRIVES MAPPED FOR EVERY USER WHICH IS ABOUT 100 USERS MAPPED ON EACH PC AND ALSO HAVE A WEBSERVER EMAIL AND A WEBSERVER TO ACCESS YOUR INFO FROM YOUR ACCOUNT ON THE SERVER FROM WHEREEVER YOU ARE NOW THATS A FRIGGING SERVER SOFTWARE WISE ANYWAY =[]

  • In case you didn't know servers are for SERVING.

  • @kingdomeyes and thats what his is doing

  • epic fail

  • 1. That's not a server room

    2. Server rooms do not use consumer Netgear routers or fax machines

    3. That's not a server, it's an old desktop PC

    4. You don't install Office 2007 on a server

    5. Servers do not sit on wooden desks.

    Do some research :)

  • @lukestratton1 6. Shut up =]

  • @danfratamico Never the less it is running Windows server 2003.... sooo it is a server ohh and lukestratton is an ass.

  • @danfratamico I have to agree. Office should not be on there. A Server by default is a seperate machine or a VM that runs a system application. Like a router (pfsense, smoothwall) or a file server (nas) Not a home machine with one hdd in it.

  • @danfratamico think u ment its a pc that u figured out how to installed some server softwear on.

  • @danfratamico 7. servers don't have sound cards

    9. servers have redundancy and reliability

    10. a server doesn't run with a screen attached

    11. a server serves a purpose, what you got there doesn't.

    12. server rooms are rooms dedicated to make the correct environment for a server to function at peak efficiency, and what you got is definitively not.

    13. servers aren't user accessible

  • @danfratamico How about you? This is the most pathetic server room I've seen. You use Windows Server for IIS, not office. Idiot.

  • @lukestratton1

It is a server room. A server room is a room with a server in. So this is a server room! Forgot, you of course have your huge datacentre at your house dont you? Hes just trying to do a bit of learning into the world of computing and for that you cant knock it.

  • @lukestratton1 you do know how to look at a date first off right? This was posted back in early 2008.

  • @Zyric83 and you know his post was 5months ago right?

  • @konmqn Yep, im well aware, still well after 2008

  • @lukestratton1 Terminal Servers and Metaframe / XenApp servers have Office 2007 on them. Just thought I would add that in.

  • @lukestratton1 I have my Dell servers on a wooden table. They are still servers. Even if the server machine is only a desktop PC, it is still a server if it is being used as a server. Maybe you mean this isn't a Data centre room.

  • Comment removed

  • @McGrawFarm It still isnt a server, server's arent used for 'Desktop' purposes.

  • @McGrawFarm Clearly you can't - check again.

  • @lukestratton1 Servers dint use WIndows OS they use Linux btw u forgot to mention that xDDD

  • @lukestratton1

Does it serve a client? Yes.

    Then it's a server.

But it's a really fucking stupid server, I'll give you that much.

  • What can I say that hasnt been said already!? Being a Network Engineer for my local county government. I can do nothing but laugh.."Office 2007 installed.......... ...... ... and thats about it"! lol holy cow I figured hed show a domain controller or something along those lines.. :-)

  • Rofl, why do you have Microsoft Office on there?

You should chuck CentOS on those if you're going to host something.

  • "Office 2007 installed" You made my day, I laughed so much.....

  • Just 2 Laptops And Desktops, That Is Retarded. I Manage A 2 Family Apartment Building With 3 Desktops And 5 Laptops. I Have A HP ProLiant ML110 G6 Tower Server With Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition & Microsoft Office Home And Business 2010. You Don't Need A Big Room, I Have My Server In The Corner Of My Living Room.

  • FUCK YEAH!! Moicrosoft Office 2007! Deal with it.

  • @IdleGod I totally agree wit u... i have a server rack and a small home datacenter and he thinks that installing widnows server 2003 and office (on a home desktop) makes it a datacenter and a big server room! So stupid... i would never do that.

  • WTF

  • Good Server2003?

  • why do u need a server? for ur PDA? i don't get it!! :S

  • FAIL!

  • Hey, I am thinking in building a W2K8 server for my house. This way I can use this for WSUS, NAP, Group Policies and Windows Firewalls. What do you think? What do you use your server for?

  • I have the same QTek:)

  • So Pointless...

  • Lmao. Nice server.

  • that is shit even for 2008

  • If you think a server is a PC that listens on a port, yes it is a server, and so is everyone's PC. If you think a datacenter is a place to store data, then any HDD is a datacenter. If you think a server is a racked PC running 24/7 with server hardware, a decent OS (not saying that Microsoft is sh*t, but it is), then it's not. If you think a datacenter is a group of servers to store a massive amount of data, then this is not a datacenter. Anyhow, you installed Office 2007: this is an OFFICE PC.

  • that is not a server, stupid

  • Sorry to ask, but what is the server serving?

  • Uhhhh is it me or is the servers missing? just cause you have server 2003 means nothing, server room implies atlest 1 or more real servers, not desktops with a server OS....

  • @SpNightMare a desktop running server 2008 doing server "things" (DHCP, VMware server, WSUS, Active Directory, file and printer sharing....) can be qualified as a server?

  • @windowspiratato OP said "My Home Server Room - Data Center" most people would think of a "server room" as a room with many servers, not someone who installed a server OS on one computer...

  • SErVer??? LOLOLOL

  • I have a nice "Home Server Room" too (In my kitchen), haha

  • should get linux server or workstation no certificate BS and its fail proof, just make some samba shares or you can even setup roles for free.

  • I'm sorry, server room? Are u kidding?

  • are you retarded or what.. Delete this video, or change the name. This has nothing to do whit a server room + servers doesent NEVER EVER got office installed

  • @kimiZZZumi

    "servers doesent NEVER EVER got"

WTF? It really sounds like your the fucking retard....

  • @DLBMaximus or then you just shut the fuck up cause you are fuckin stupid

  • I use 3 of those computers to run my server. I use it to manage 2 laptops and 3 desktops

  • Ubuntu Server FTW

  • goddam noob, installing a server OS on a desktop pc doesnt make it a "server room", espiecially when youre planning on using office on the "server", btw what does it serve? guess nothing kthxbai

  • Why would you have MS Office installed on that "server"? Going to use remote desktop to make some spreadsheets?

  • lol that isnt a server thats a desktop PC with windows server2007 installed big diffrence you may have it set up lie a server (Software wise) but it still isnt a server

  • @Sliffer21 i work with win servers but i never heard anything about server2007 :) mate, you probably mean server2008. but as i can see he got server2003 installed.

  • @irootsk yea i mean 2008 typo thanks for catching it

  • @Sliffer21 well yea 2003 I run 2 servers with Win svr 2003 its good with servers but not for desktops

  • @Sliffer21 it dosent have to be a proper server to be classed as a server. Loads of people run server OSES on old boxes. Google does. And dont knock him. Hes just trying to learn

  • What about migrate to linux or unix??

  • you should do a updated video :)

  • One crappy windows box is not a data center, and servers do not have firefox or ms office. I have 2 crappy dells running Debian, and a HP DL740 Proliant running Xen. What I have is not a data center.

  • i know. I hate when people fo this. I have half a setup. Running three Gateway desktops, all with Debian. battery backup and a raid box. that houses about 10TB in data.

  • Why would you install office on a server? Looks to me its just a kid that couldent find a xp cd so he installed windows server instead. Its not a server just because the operating system says its for servers.

  • Just a comparison: My Server is located in my cold attic (don't need air conditioning up there) where i never sit at it. If i need anything i do it over TightVNC. I only ever need to access it very rarely via Remote Desktop, TightVNC or Sitting at it. It has NO Office 2007, because i don't need it - I don't sit in front of it all day & It is on a CAT 6A 10-Gigabit network. A server is not something which you sit at all day, if ever.

  • i sit at my terminal all day.

  • You really have a 10gbE network?

  • @DannyBoi56 I do indeed, yes.

  • @ice Oh. My. God. You lucky SOB. How much did it run you?

  • @DannyBoi56 It didn't actually cost us that much because we got the 300m CAT6A cable off ebay. It's future proofed so we can expand in the future.

  • Aren't 10gbE switches thousands of dollars? Unless you mean 1gbE switches. Those are cheap.

  • A 10 Gigabit network card is like 800 dollars and the switch would be alteast 2000, i think u mean 1 gigabit

  • I do have 10-gigabit. I have CAT6A Cabling around my house but its not being used at 10-gigabit yet because i don't have the switch and cards. Its only being used at 1-gigabit at the moment.

  • If you don't believe me, check out my videos. The thick blue cables are the CAT6A cables.

  • @iceflyevents 10 gigabit is 10000 megabit, if you have 10 gigabit im jaloux

  • I know what 10-gigabit is. Check out my videos if you don't believe me. The blue cables coming into the patch boxes are CAT6A - 10 Gigabit.

  • why the hell you have office 2007 on a win2k3 OS? man talk about rookie in computers shame shame you lol

  • what is it a domain controller?

  • A Domain Controller is a server which has Active Directory installed and processes all of the logins. When you log into a network in: Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 professional or Windows Vista business.etc the computer you are sitting at requests the login from the server. Once authorised it transfers all of your files from the server to a temporary cache on the Workstation you are at and it deletes the cache when you log off. Basicly its the Domain Server which has Active Directory.

  • i know, we used to use them in school.

  • хуйня !!

  • lol thats not a data center thats a small domain controlelr XD

  • wow thats really cool NOT!

  • ...I wouldn't call that a data center/server room man o.O

  • You call that Server Room? What a joke! It's a F**KING crappy DELL! POS!

  • You are seriously calling 2 desktop PCs and 2 laptops a server? and you keep a comfy chair and book shelves in a server room? Don't make me laugh

  • OMG do you live in oklahoma? I looked at a house that had a room with the EXACT SAME DESK and that was considered their computer room.. .

  • I Have The Same pc

  • 3 Things I've picked up on that really confuse me.

Your running "Enterprise Edition" for 4 machines. Did you really payt for that?

Your running Office 2007 on Server 2003, I know its compatible but In my experiace your asking for trouble.

Server Hardware, it's a desktop PC. Dell Precision my eyes don't decieve me.

If all your doing is file sharing you would have been better off buying a half decent Raid 1 NAS Drive.

  • Also I don't think he lets the "server" on 24/7.On the other hand, corporations need to let their servers always on in dedicated air-conditioned rooms to reduce problems. Can you image 20 computers running continously in a closed room without air-conditioning?It would be like a big risk for the computers. And this doesn't only happen to America, it happens worldwide (I am not american by the way)

    BYE

  • C'mon guys, you can read everything here.people saying "You don't have UPS OMG you will lose everything, this is not a server", other saying "this is a pirate copy.I hope you have not revealed personal info, cause I want to see you in jail"lol. He is just a guy who was interested in trying windows server. I have done so in the past (mostly for windows media services used for streaming audio). He is not a corporation to have a seperate room or to have 5 quad core intel xeon servers.Stop being bad

  • 2003 enterprise? Probably Pirated copy?:) Volume license copy?:) Many small businesses can't even aford 2003 enterprise:))))

  • are you restarted?? go to ebay and type office 2003.....

  • what are you a moron? what does it have to do anything with office 2003??

  • He's talking about Windows Server 2003 Enterprise.

  • No shit it is pirated. Windows Server 2k3 Enterprise costs $1000.

  • Why does he need that?

Because all of the american people shit on the environment.

And that's why America is the country with the highest consumption of oil and energy. And that's why the state of our planet is so bad. Look at the videos of the other "home data centers" on youtube. It's only a waste of energy and natural ressources. Air conditioning, that runs 24/7 to cool down the PCs, that makes me so angry, that senseless waste of energy.

  • @jimmah55555

At least my ancestor wasn't a prisoner.

  • Dude, are you a moron? Jesus Christ...

You are probably some fuckin' tree hugger moron who hates computers, like my mom. Do you even realize the importance of data centers? Your youtube account would not exist. Your computer would not exist or that we would still be in the computer age of '98 in Q4 2009. You really should be thankful. You would not be able to watch TV without data centers. All home data centers have a purpose! ALL OF THEM. Well this concludes my triumph. You sir, are a moron.

  • Also, if you hate data centers (and apparently computers) why are you even looking at these videos? Well, your argument seems to be invalid. Good day, sir. And... Go to hell.

PS. BTW don't even think about talking shit to me because I am portugese. But I live in New Jersey. New Jersey is in America. Also, get an education, motherfucker.

  • Why do you need a server? What are you serving? Why do you have bloody office on ur server.... WTF

  • I have Server 2008 now hehe

  • AHHHHH- WHYYYYYYYYYY ????

  • uhm, cuz he can if he wants too. plus its also more reliable and stable.

  • but WHY does it need to be reliable? Its stupid....

  • dude, wow. who doesnt want their pc to be stable. if u dont then u are a dumbass.

  • Are you retarded? All operating systems are 'stabe' but in the context of a home. NO pc need to be on 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. He isnt servicing an enterprise so he does not need Server installed.

  • it seems to me that you are the retarded one. he can put on a server OS if he wants to.

  • What the fuck is it to you? He can do anything he wants, it's HIS server not yours. How is it hurting you? Quick crying like a little bitch....

  • Lol @ dumb americans. When did i ever say that he CANT do this. Sure he can.... but what is the point. He does not need a server with Windows server on it - it is a waste of money. Your the one crying like a bitch. Not me - please keep your retardness in american - k thanx.

  • @jimmah55555

dude calm down. let him do what he wants to do. if that gets you upset, wait til I upload my vids. XD

  • @jimmah55555 Why dont you have a server???

  • taking a wild guess u have a gx260?

thats a decent server for managing things like files and shit so shutup i have a 280 in my furnace room with 2 1TB drives managing all mmy music! so its allright for people who dont have money flying out their ass :)

  • You are so stupid. Windows Server 2003 Enterprise for 2 netbooks and 2 desktops PC :-s and Office 2007 on the "server" lol

  • @Gavrinis I agree. Just use FreeBSD and Open Xchange and you'll be better off, not just moneywise.

  • password 12345 or more or less xD

  • "Server room"? You installed 2k3 server, with office, on your desktop. That does not make it a server. You don't touch the console of a server unless you really need to... You just don't get it.

  • i thought the same lol

  • i realise i left a comment just one day ago, but i had to return to bust annother laugh !

  • you sound so prowed of your self :| i feel sorry forr you distinctt lack of knowlage for anything

  • you physical penis :| whatss your achivement ? gettin office 2007 on a shit peice?

  • hahaha office 2007. sooooo pro!

  • Why would you put a desktop application on a server?

  • That was the WORST movie ever, you title says "My Home Server Room - Data Center". I cant find something that shows its a server only its has a Win Server OS witch you dont even use as a server.... LAMO. Do you even know what a Server/Data Center is, if u call a Home PC with an Server OS a server that dosent even run server apps... omg..

  • NEW TITLE:

"home office with a pc running a server OS with no server roles....."

  • haha

    very nice

  • shits weak

  • I got windows server 2003 running on my inspiron 100 with a celeron processor and office on it; not to mention my crt monitor....ahaha...What a JOKE !! ahaha

  • whats the point of this video???

  • I wish this was a joke...!

  • windows server?

    Oh dear....

  • old shitty computer, and old shitty pda, NAAB

  • Nice setup! I am digging the CRT and the wooden server rack. Do you have a stand alone AC unit just for that room? Bet it gets really hot. What about raised floors to run all your fiber!! Nice surround sound for the server too! I am thinking of hooking up some speakers in the server room at work!

  • this was lol

  • looool?!?!? WTF, server room? 1 dell's computer on your desctop. A real server room is not in a home library running on normal computer and a crappy modem

  • so you have a dell dimension 2400 running a server...what a noob. get a real job.

first off, your not running any type of UPS system.

Second your not running any RAID on that because its a 2400 that does not support raid.

third, you have it set up like a work station. you think IT people sit on a server all day?

    fourth, how old are you?

  • dude chill out and get a life , lay off

  • You should become a comedian.

  • windows server? mwahahaa, you gotta be kidding me

  • lol

  • Why would you install anything like Office 2007 on a server?

  • i was about to ask the same thing, not to mention outlook on a windows 2003 server can mess up exchange :)

  • I have a server that runs 2 computers but it uses Windows XP Home (simple file sharing)

  • my bedroom-turned-office has 3 real dell servers in it, a 420SC, SC1420 and a new 2950. There's a 10U rack with a 16port dell gigabit switch I got for 60% off RRP. granted this is only temporary as the 1420 just coming out of colocation (in a real datacentre) and the 2950's going into it, but I still just call that room an office.

Your server is just a desktop with Win2k3 on it; i'm not sure if that counts

I'm using the old SC420 and gigabit switch as a great big router for the house, lol.

  • What the hell? This is nothing like a datacenter...

  • Another home server lab video with servers equipped with sound cards and enterprise edition server software (you realize the list price on Win2k3 Enterprise is in the thousands of dollars right?). This one gets a bonus for having Office 2007 installed.

  • You stupid idiot, that was a useless video, EXPLAIN please
