MVP is NOT the same thing as a REGURGITATING mitral valve; the latter more common in males than females. With a regurgitation, the valve eventually will be replaced in late, mid-life from serious back flow of blood (leak) , and one cannot just do any kind of exercise. If you have MVP, however, Texas Hospital studies say....you need water, a lot, and take 500mg magnesium per day. To maintain valve integrity - proper closing shut, not flopping.
@rich22be Whether or not you should have your valve replaced depends on how much regurgitation. MVP is the same thing. With MVP you will have some kind of regurgitation. With trace regurgitation and minor regurgitation do not need to be replaced.
well, there are different levels of regurge in MVP.Accordind to this,we can make a decision about physical activities.Patient CANNOT do whatever he wants. This Dr. is wrong. There is a surgical treatment,as well as symptomatic therapy for those who have MVP.Talk to a CARDIOLOGISt.
