My tear flows when I see this document. I imagine how would my nation look like if there was no war. The prosperity and the civilization of Cambodians. The city was well organized back then. I wish i could be born at that time and died before the Khmer Rouge came to power.
@jktbali King Sihanouk never believed in the KR ideology. He was never part of the destruction, he was held under house arrest and was nearly killed by the Khmer Rouge. He never approved or new about the genocide. You have no right to make such remarks.
@VietNaMentals On the contrary, I do have every right to make the remarks as I am entitled to my opinions in the same way that you are to yours. He can claim innocence all he wants, but to me and to much of the international communities he's been a completely useless but flamboyant King. He was initially in love with Chinese communist rhetoric (still is) until the KR showed him what it really was. You can worship him all you want but with his track records he'll never earn my respect.
@bergersdog Why do you say that? In my opinion PP is the finest city in the world.
Looks aren't everything. In any case there are some beautiful sights in PP. Most of the scenes in this film are still there today, so I don't quite understand what you're saying?
@The86416 Yes, most of the sites are still here. There have been improvments since I made Phnom Penh my home back in the late 90's. But infrastructure is really bad, traffic is jammed now almost all the time and Phnom Penh is WAY too crowded now. When I came, it was 1 million people, today, over 2.5 million people. The government had its chance to make some of the lakes into beautiful parks but have chose to fill them in and I suppose you have heard about that?
@bergersdog Yeah, I know about Boueng Kak. Seen the flooding for myself, no rainwater run-off now. It shouldn't have happened, it's a disgrace and the lake could've been a real focal point for PP if it had been developed harmoniously.
As I understand it the lake is being filled in so they can extend the ugly monstrosity that is Camko City.
The only benefit I can see to this, is that it will force the ever-frugal backpackers into paying a proper room rate in the city :-)
I love this video !!! It is a great privilege for me to be able to see such a beautiful video of my own nation in the past, that I never dream to see it before ! Thank you very very much for making this video possible for us . May peace be with you and may God bless you and our nation !
It is very very very beautiful city !!! Peace and quiet could be seen and heard through-out the nation .Khmer Peoples used to live the life as Buddhists, now not many of us care any more. People today have been poisoned with greed, all bad things they do every day become normal to them, and will be the bad habit for them and their children for generations to come. In the future, the word RELIGION will only be fake word from someone's mouth ! Only Meta-kakrona Thor person will be the real one !..

Why cry over the past now when it was this same king that destroyed it by believing in Pol Pot's ideology!!

It sure was pretty back then. Today, it is one of the ugliest cities in SE Asia.
