CANADA IS PART OF AMERICA. u.s IS PART OF AMERICA AND MEXICO IS PART OF AMERICA. YOUR STILL IN AMERICA IDIOTSSSS RETARDS. THSI IS WHY EVERYONE SAYS AMERICANS ARE STUPID.
I work for customs... and this guy was out of line. There's no reason to snap at somebody over something so minor. Frankly, If that were me... I wouldn't have stopped video taping.
Of course you can't video tape at the border. It's a national security measure. These kids have clearly never left the United States and are totally bewildered just crossing the border to Canada and don't know any better. I can't imagine how they would feel going to a third world country. They'd probably just be in total culture shock that no one speaks English, takes American currency or that there are no McDonalds. LOL.
@MrIntangibleasset You're lucky us Canadians are nice. If you had that mentality in the UK and Europe or basically anywhere else in the world, people would scold you. Americans are not well liked so be careful when you travel, don't follow up with your stereotype. I've had to have a canadian flag on my luggage so i wouldn't get shitty service in europe...i'm serious. Best of luck!
@MrIntangibleasset haha really? why's that? Because americans won't take ours when we need food desperately. When I was going through NY back home to canada and they wouldn't take my money. It's all I had so I could eat. I even told them they could convert it later if it was too much for them to calculate and pay me back change in american coins. Nope, nothing. Was on the road starving after that. I learned I need to respect them and use their money, and so should you with ours.
I WAS CROSSING WINDSORÉDETROIT BORDER MANY TIMES BEFORE AND EACH TIME I HAD A GUY CHECKING MY PASSPORT, BUT THIS TIME IT WAS A WOMAN AND SHE TOOK MY FINGERPRINTS AND MY PHOTO AND PÛT ME IN A CELL , I WANT TO KNOW WHY WOMEN CBP OFFICERS GIVE HARD TIME TO OTHER WOMEN, IS THIS PSYCHOLOGICAL THE REASON WHY I DISCLOSE HER NAME IS I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT NOT ALL CBP OFFICERS HAVE ISSUES, THIS ONE NEEDS HELP , LAST NAME EMERY!
The way the CBSA officer told you to turn off the camera wasn't the most courteous method, but bottom line is you should never photograph or record interactions with immigration officers, ports of entrys or custom procedures at any border crossing anywhere in the world.
Looks like their border police sucks. Is it true that they're rude to everyone so that everybody is equally treated? In other words, treat Americans like shit, treat Middle Easterns like shit, ect. Basically, if you're mean and suspect everybody of being a terrorist then there is no racial equality issue. Everyone gets the same horrible treatment i'm assuming? lol I bet those police don't even really act like that except when they're on the job, I mean come on. Oh well, still a nice country. :]
I swear to god Canadian border police are worse than the American ones. I drove down to Seattle last week from Vancouver at 2 in the morning, was the only car at the border, guy talked to me for 2 min & let me through. Coming back into my own country around lunch time; border was busy as hell, I was interrogated for literally 2 hours before they let me go!
@sonnyblack0870 Same here. I always get into the states no problem. But try coming back into Vancouver....Ive been searched probably ten times...my car the 10 times and they searched me personally twice. Its ridiculous. All I have done is go to casino and the space needle. And I go down on a weekly basis to fill up my gas tank. Its not like im a smuggler or even look like any sort of bad person.
@mmmfloorpie Though he can deny entry for non compliance or search the car for a random check if he wants. However has a citizen he has the right not to be video taped.
@Thanato26 Who has the right not to be videotaped? The officer?
There have been numerous court rulings that say public officials can be video taped whilst performing their duty.
Furthermore, what makes you think citizens have the right not to be videotaped? If you are in a public place, you are essentially allowing yourself to be videotaped and anyone can tape/take pictures of you. Again, there are legal precedents involving this..
@mmmfloorpie According to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms one can expect reasonable limitations on ones rights when at border crossings, ports of entry, and airports. This includes rights against search and seizure, as well as video taping. If a Customs official orders to you turn your camera off, you must do so. Border crossings are highly sensitive/vulnerable points. They may be the targets of terrorist attacks/ploys. Video of the station may also be used as reference for smugglers
@417smitty Ok, let's just say that I know what I'm talking about here and leave it at that. I have first hand experience.
Public officials, INCLUDING police officers and border services officers can be video taped/recorded during the performance of their duty. Canada is a nation of laws and public officials should not be doing anything already publicly known and within the scope of the law. Yes, there are some exceptions with national security/etc, but not an officer in the booth!
@mmmfloorpie Oh wow we've got 007 over here. I'll take you're word for it seeing as how you have "first hnd experience".
Section 34(a) of the Canadian Borders and Security Act clearly outlines "no person entering Canada may take pictures or moving images of any sensitive area including, port of entry, land crossing, airport customs, etc." It is not about filming the agent, it is about the fact that they have a camera running at the crossing in the first place.
@417smitty Have you ever worked for the CBSA? I'm not 007 but I've read numerous policy emails about how the public DOES have a right to record a basic examination.
A sensitive area is one which would have been concealed from public view. AGAIN, an officer in a booth that is clearly visible to all members of the traveling public is not a "sensitive" area!
@417smitty The officer in the booth does not have the discretion to refuse entry. Furthermore, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident can NEVER be denied entry.
Also, since they are obligated to follow the law, they cannot refuse someone simply because they choose to exercise their rights to videotape the examination.
Yes, the officer can ask that they do not videotape but during a simple examination, the person can refuse to stop. It's a totally different situation if arrested.
@mmmfloorpie Yes they do have the authority to refuse entry. These people clearly are not Canadian citizens. They allow entry on a case by case basis. The entry could be refused on the basis that the video tape provided some suspicion of espionage
@417smitty@417smitty They most certainly do not. They would make a referral for secondary inspection where an immigration officer would conduct an independent examination. I haven't seen this video for a long time and don't remember it. Where they are Canadian or not doesn't matter. As a Canadian I could go and videotape and they couldn't refuse me.
You obviously have no idea what you are even talking about. Name the legislation that they would be denied under.
@iLuvBarRefaeli probably having a rough shift, there is nothing in the job description that says he has to be nice. Besides ever been through to the US? I've had a guard like this, luckily he didn't want the paperwork and let us through.
@alikos88 border control doesnt represent all canadians. they're even assholes to canadians too, I travel alot and am speaking from experience :) I think both sides, canada and USA are really strict now with security post 9-11
Would you walk into a police station with a video camera on and recording? NO! So why would someone think it's ok to have a video camera on and recording while crossing the border with Border Patrol watching your every move? STUPID!!!
@TheSanguineOne I know what she meant, I was just being sarcastic. It's just that America is the whole thing: from Canada and Greenland down to Argentina and Chile. It's like if we decided that "Germany" is interchangeable with "Europe", and instead of "Germans" we say "Europeans", and when we address the continent, we say "Western Europe". It doesn't make any sense.
@TheCuriousCat22 yeah i am glad americans are treated same way we are when we cross to that dumpster cbp is fucking outrageous and outspoken fuck off usa
@TheCuriousCat22 I totally Agree he could of had a Bad day at work. But u know they could of send the video the video to Border Patrol for investigation and they could tell you what to do. It could be that he could get fired for not being nice and friendly. I did hear that Border Patrol near the Canada Border not very friendly at all.
@TheCuriousCat22 The Border Patrol Gaurds can be really strict, and some of them act like real dicks to people... but, some are very friendly and even funny at times!
you can tell they never travelled outside the USA before
