  • Lando Calrissian approves.

  • This is such an amazing song, one of my favorite Scale the Summit songs. 2:00 to 3:02 is probably one of the most amazing things I've ever heard in my life.

  • you guys should jam with tosin abasi at some point...except the audience might die

  • This is fantastic.

  • what did you replace your Crunch lab with? i have the bfr jpxi 7 and what was the tradeoff?

  • i just got back into guitar after a year and bought an rg3efxm1, i shoulda got seven string haha

  • My favourite song on the record. Are you gonna come to Europe some time? I'd drive halfway across Germany to see you guys live!

  • ssssick...

  • I'm just putting it out there. You guys are among the most talented musicians I will ever know. You really give an inspiration that kids like me (I'm only 16) still have a shot at making it big with actual music rather than trashy crap that gets written these days. For that, I'd like to thank you.

  • That's such a pretty guitar.

  • 3:35 different clothes... :P

  • @AlexPositron haha no, its a different person, I just played my parts for that section. -chris

  • @scalethesummit HOw did you get chris Letchford featured in this song ??

That must of been a major pain in the ass.

  • #stripesonplaid

  • 3:56 :DDDDD

  • Fookin Fantastic.

  • 3:03 Isn't that a lick from Guthrie Govan/Allan Holdsworth ?

  • @Zappacho i can see the Guthrie resemblance since he also uses a lot of slides with bends, but for it to be Holdsworth, we would have to play more chromatic notes to make it work haha

  • @scalethesummit I see =)

  • @Zappacho reminds me of the GG song "I want a parrot"

  • WELL DAMN!

  • this is amazing!!!! the reason why progressive genres are my favorite is because of the structures of the songs...its progressive, heavy, technical...and you have to be GREAT to play this genre...and it takes time to make this amazing music...i REELY cant wait for ur guy's new album!!!

  • Hey I bought your song "The Great Plains" on Rock Band, and it's a pleasure to play. :D Your guitar play reminds me a bit of John Petrucci's, which I ofc. mean as a compliment! :)

  • @Cruize91 its a John Petrucci signature model haha, its like, his exact guitar. :P

  • hey dude...is it possable that you can upload a video of u playing SARGASSO SEA or BLOOM?

  • haha a religious debate in a scale the summit video? why..........

  • I wish I could see you guys live one day, you are all so fucking amazing

  • @JonteJH2 dude...they are amazing live...i saw them at progressive nation 09...GEZZUS CHRIST MONKEY BAWLLZ!!!! it was awsome

  • @TH3B4SSM4ST3R Yeah i know xD been watching videos since then

  • @JonteJH2 yea :)

  • Can everybody please just shut up about religion and just enjoy the MUSIC???

  • @Spermwhales93 Why would people argue about religion in a non religious progressive metal band?

  • @matthewtop Because people like to look for pointless things to argue about :L

  • and the all powerful invisible creator of all of the countless galaxies in the universe in my magical little kingdom of heaven the first thing i would decide to do would to make any self-conscious beings designed to not suffer or feel hate or discord of any kind.. i would not create lucifer to be cast out of my magical little palace to tempt the poor little adamu and eve with a forbidden fruit. i would not cause birth defects, war, poverty, and should i go on??

  • @FractionsOfInfinity dude. relax. get your panties out of the wad they are clearly in and take a breather. what you are saying has absolutely no affect. i have heard it all before. i was an atheist for many many years. it's ok that you want to get your point across, i get it. stop ranting and raving. for the sake of the viewers of this video.

  • science doesn't require faith or belief. only a passionate curiosity towards shedding light on the unknown. i used to be in the same position as you.. i did everything from chanting mantras and decrees from the various new age books ive read to cracking open my skull to blitz through hyperspace while on psychedelics searching for the answers. it took me a very long time to break the habit of believing in a benevolent creator until i decided to start reading credible sources. if i were allknowing

  • filled with all these crazy stories that it discredits the existence of the mind outside of the body but anyone whos alive can tell theres more going on with choice and fate than electrical impulses can explain.. unless of course we just die and no longer exist.. which is very scary and is the reason most cling to religion but i dont fear death as much as the rest of you because ive been dissociated enough from the conscious experience to see the interconnectedness of all living things.

  • and colors i was hallucinating were these ascended beings. i do feel like there is a spiritual essence to existence which is overlooked by modern scientists and that mortality is merely a transition into another form of being but my understanding and insights given to me by the etheric plane i entered while under these substances makes me understand we are all one soul in essence because its all electricity firing neurons.. the only difference between you and me is perspective. religion is so

  • Yes I do lsd and it was goddamn enlightening. I used to read these books supposedly channeled by the ascended masters like jesus and budda. all the books were full of discourses and decrees that are supposedly used to help the individual ascend to a higher plane of existence through meditation. It took me a long time to break out of that trip cause you really want that magic to be there. I was on psychedelics all the time when i was reading them so i felt that all the crazy fractalline shapes

  • top three moments from STS:

    1. Crossing the Ocean 4:35

    2. Giants 6:48

    3. City in the Sky 0:11

  • You're guys' tone is very clear and cuts through nicely, would you attribute that to your guitars more or your rig?

  • @BottledMusic i would say a little of both, but I have always been a "its mostly in the players fingers" than anything. appreciate the compliment! -chris

  • AMAZING tone. what amp was used for this recording?

  • @kevyp12 its actually a 1980 something 2 x 12 Fender Princeton Chorus. not what anyone is expecting Im sure. haha. I agree, I think for a smaller, solid state amp, with some good eq'ing it sounds great. -chris

  • this may seem out of place and i'm asking just because i'm of my faith. but are you guys Christians?

  • @mmmhm234 I was raised a christian, but I dont go to church much anymore.

  • @scalethesummit i was honestly just curious, but then again going to church doesn't make you a Christian.

  • @scalethesummit You should check a Church out sometime, you might find it wasn't what it used to be, depending on what denomination you were raised in. But tis your choice of course; besides this important point, can't wait for some new material!

  • @mmmhm234 dinosaur fossils.. sorry buddy adam and eve didnt exist. no one can walk on water. universal subconscious connecting us all and thus making death of the individual impermanent because we are all one with the source of creation maybe.. eternal recurrence maybe.. magical kingdom of heaven.. doubt it

  • @FractionsOfInfinity dude. if you are gonna spout ignorance and intolerance at least have the decency to inbox it to me. you ignorant bigot, my beliefs are my own and are rectified. your universal subconscious stuff is what hippies believed. don't claim such wild fantasies as "eternal recurrence" but discount God's work. one day you will face judgment, like it or not. when it's to late to say sorry maybe you will remember this.

  • @mmmhm234 hah what part of dinosaur fossils did you not understand?? im glad you say thats what hippies believe like being a hippie is a bad thing. why do hippies always get so much shit? if you did enough acid you would understand how we are all connected because it makes you remember having dreamt scenes from your life. Those psychic experiences have proven to me there is much more than we can perceive. if dark energy is unstable the universe will become a singularity and recreate the universe

  • @FractionsOfInfinity are you admitting that you do acid? lol

  • @mmmhm234 yes i went to too many shows with members of the Grateful Dead playing.. they are a BAD INFLUENCE lol

  • i don't fear death my friend. the choice to serve Jesus is more than just a crutch. believe what you will. but it won't change what is truth.

  • @mmmhm234 not regardin that i have a 3.2 gpa at uncw which is a pretty decent university, that i can actually play in instrument half decently, and dont believe in fairytales anymore i wouldnt consider anything ive said to not be intellectual or information based... in fact this information comes from a dendritic theta upload from some of my huge influences who through the process of neocortical lateral transference have helped me see through the ridiculous bullshit in religion.

  • @mmmhm234 well if you want an information based shocker into what modern science views mortality as: when you die there is nothing. there are no more neurons firing ions through electrical synapses fusing themselves to receiving cells. you become food for maggots life goes on. thats basically what my psychology teacher slapped into all of us the first few days of class. though im sure none of your sunday school classes mentioned the anatomy of the human brain.

  • @FractionsOfInfinity you told me you do drugs. heavy drugs at that, and you still expect me to take what you are saying as fact? look dude i'm not taking a stab at your character i'm sure you are a cool person. but you are on drugs. i'm not going to take you seriously.

  • @mmmhm234 well technically serotonin and dopamine are drugs... so how can you take yourself seriously you drug user? lol

  • @mmmhm234 I don't expect you to accept what I am saying as a fact which is a beautiful thing considering the subjectivity of each of our experiences.. We all have to come to terms with our thoughts and emotions in some way or another.. and i am interested in the phenomena of consciousness and the possibility of transcendence to high planes of existence(other frequency ranges of perception if you will) much more than you will ever begin to imagine.

  • @mmmhm234 the atoms that make up the human body, are traceable to the crucibles that cooked light elements into heavy elements in their core under extreme temperatures and pressures. These stars- the high mass ones among them- went unstable in their later years- they collapsed and then exploded- scattering their enriched guts across the galaxy- guts made of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and all the fundamental ingredients of life itself. thus we are all one with the cosmos

  • @FractionsOfInfinity and btw. if you do lsd i'm not seriously going to take anything you say as intelligent or information based.

  • What gauge strings do you use for you 7 strings? and what tuning are they in?

  • @PhillMcCrackinn B E A D G B E - 10 - 56 Ernie Balls. -Chris

  • Nice guitar tone. What amp do you use?

  • Great job Travis and Chris!

I really admire your unique style of music and your proficiency at guitar; I hope to attain that level someday. I have a question for Chris though: I was reading the review of your Guitar Technique Book and the brief Bio said that you have attended MIT, Berklee and Houston Community College and went on tour with Dream Theater during Prog Nation. Now you seem relatively young, how did you manage to fit all this in?

  • @guitardude13211 thanks man, appreciate it.

I dont think Im that young really. I'm 26. Got to tour with Dream Theater right before my 25th birthday. I started early on guitar, and made it my life during my early teens. When I say life, 4-6 hours a day of practicing. I guess I'm blessed to have found what I was meant to do early on in life so I was able to accomplish a lot very early by working hard at it. Its all about hard work! -Chris

  • Your music changed me.

  • You guys rocked at The Progressive Nations Tour last year. I noticed that is a Petrucci BFR 7. By any chance, did Petrucci give that guitar to you for touring with Dream Theater?

  • @mrtfuss thanks a lot man. no travis endorses Music Man guitars, so they sent it to him. Petrucci was excited to see he was playing his guitar on that tour though. -chris

  • AMAZING GUYS

  • I was just wondering, what kind of pickups do you have on that guitar?

  • @johnogel Lundgren M7's

  • I would absolutely love to see a video like this for Giants.

  • amazing

  • Absolutely gorgeous.

  • love it :D but question - is it travis playing the entire way through or is chris playing that last solo? just asking coz the shirt thats worn changes....

  • @flamingfishman no, i sit in for my solo. its in the video info. thanks for checking it out, glad you like it! -chris

  • Solid playing Travis! :)

  • This is awsome!

  • this is so magical. I first saw you guys at Dream Theater's Prog Nation tour in Miami a year or so ago. Y'all are awesome

  • I love the bass during the tapping part, you guys should put up some bass and drum videos like this.

  • I love how you guys dont full out shred cause your instrumental. Your songs are wonderful to listen to.

  • thanks for all the nice comments guys, appreciate the support!

  • LOVE THE PLAYING!!!

Just curious, you ever consider the axe fx?

  • @Greenwithevil we both have the axe-fx right now. we're in the works of putting it into our live rig -chris

  • you guys are amazing, thanks for the upload!

  • Nice! I just need to sync this video up to two of mine now...bahaha

  • Amazing video! Chris you should upload a video of you playing Bloom on your new headless 7 string!!

  • im kinda surprised Travis doesnt have his won custom guitar by now.

  • @MrGuitarman234 that guitar he has is certainly as good good or better than any custom you can buy.

  • @scrotzki789 its a great guitar for sure, but its impossible for a stock guitar to be as good as a custom as a custom is built 100% to the specs of the person that ordered it.

  • Awesome :)

  • still the best band i ever saw opening a show! fuckin awesome!

  • Yes! I've been trying to see this one played live or something, but this is far better! Thanks for the upload, you guys are amazing!

  • when are we gonna get a new album from you guys? i cant wait anymore :D

  • @blackseeds666 I believe they have one planned for 2011, as far as I know it's entirely composed and maybe even entirely recorded...

  • @Steve128967

oh, i see. thanks a lot buddy

  • 2:16 and on = complete win
