I love this film so much! I can't wait to see it on the morning of Christmas eve (as is Norwegian tradition) - it was nice to finally hear their real voices though :p
Vianoce bez Popelky NIKDY! Ake by to boli Vianoce bez tychto rozpravok?
@meloveyou38 Really? I wonder how Popelka got so far as to become a Norwegian Christmas tradition! Maybe the partially German production pushed it over there...?
I wish someone had the English dubbing of it. Where me myself love the Czech language (I'm American working here in CR) but I would love to have my future children watch this film on Christmas Eve, but sadly, when they are too young to read subtitle's, it won't be possible for the to understand it. :(
( I cant speak or understand the language, i speak english and norwegean )
Definitely one of the most beautiful fairytales ever made. I remember how in love I was with the prince, when I was little. ... Still kinda am. And the girl who plays Popelku(?) is so beautiful! The music is also incredibly beautiful.
This movie is, sadly, terribly underrated. Despite it being quite old, the effects/filming/etc. is still very nice - and so is the acting. It's all really great, and this movie just doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
@Starchild91 That's really sad to hear - in Germany it's immensely popular (it's a Christmas standard that's on TV dozens of times every December) and a true childhood classic. Definitly not underrated here... And I read it got some awards after the initial release in the '70s.
And I agree, it's probably one of the best fairytale movies ever. It's beautiful, romantic, funny and it even has a strong heroine, not some helpless princess . ^_^
@spiderorchid81 Yes, here in Norway it's also a standard on the 24th of December. Most people I know watch it, and it's just a tradition to see it every single Christmas eve at around 11 am. But it doesn't get much attention outside Germany, the Czech Republic and Norway, does it? I wish it was big in America, too. And all over the world, really.
@Starchild91 Yes, if it was more popular in America and they'd adapt that kind of style, perhaps there'd be more (new) movies like it... it's simply beautiful without drowning in kitsch as so many American movies of this genre do. The best children's movies apart from the Czech ones I know are English or Canadian productions.
Wonderful to see how this awesome, timeless fairytale connecting people from around the world. I saw it yesterday again:) no change, still the best fairytale i ever saw.
Is there other countries than Norway that runs this movie on christmast eve? I guess it's of course hugely popular in Czech as this is your movie, but I also hope other countries than Norway has imported it :)

We Czechs are always so modest. We should behave like the Americans... sometimes. Be more confident. We've done so many great things and don't take pride on 'em! That's a shame, isn't it?
sure, you are right...:o) it is like we would be ashemed for what we have done and would try to cover these amazing things, I think that the first republic was the period of our biggest famous in Europe, now we are just part of something, part of EU, without own personality, we are not seen, except these disasters in our political scene, and that´s nothing what to be proud of...
@Calucifer13 No, we are shy and there is nothing bad on it, And this very movie is the best Christmas fairy tale of all times. If people somewhere in the world know that is ts Czech - good. If they don't - who cares as long as long as hey have nice Christmas.
@Calucifer13 I am a foreigner and living in the Czech republic and I have the feeling that you are indeed very proud people.. And behaving like the Americans wouldn't be a good idea, I think.

yes, the prince is very handsome.^^ Imho he is one of the few really handsome princes in those czech/german classic fairy tale movies.
BTW i really love this movie! I know the Cinderella-Version from Disney first & i get to know this movie just two years ago,but i felt in love with it. It's even better than Cinderella or Ever after with Drew Barrymore. Libuse was so pretty and cool, the Prince so handsome and funny. ^_^ Best adaption of this fairy tale ever!
way you provoke by such a stupid way. Of course this is original version and it!s chzech. libuse Safrankova and Travnicek are czech actors and the movie was shot in czech - german coproduction. I don't know what you mean by voiceover but voices are original.
What a beautiful movie. Great to hear the original voices; I have only seen it in German before, having grown up in Germany (West at the time). Always preferred the Czech/GDR fairytale movies for children over the American ones. They are full of magic and soul. This Cinderella version is definitely the best! I believe the shot some bits in Germany (the castle) and in Brandenburg but most of it has the Czech quality seal. Anyone remember Arabella and Tan Pau?
favourite fairy-tale movie!:))) just best one! i love it since childhood.I watched always in russian translation.I would say it was translated wonderfully and witty!
As for the fairy tales, Czech Republic is a very strong competitor to countries which have greater financial sponzorship. Think of that, this one is a masterpiece, not only due to actors but because of the lovely Czech nature. Krásná česká pohádka.
Director is Czech. Protagonists are Czech. There are a few of german actors, but original version is in Czech language. We can argue about that story is inspired by GERMAN fairytale, written by Grimms , but that movie is Czech 70% and German around 30%.
I am not very nationalistic but I saw your mocking comments and I think you are.Are roundabouts too important for you although that's great movie in all?
It was filmed in cooperation with Defa studios in DDR, exteriours of famous Moritzburg castle near Dresden were used in the film too. However, most of the filming staff were Czechs, including famous director Václav Vorlíček. Writers were Czech, music was composed by Czech, most actors were Czech, excluding few as the stepmother. Most of the film was filmed in Czech Rep., including Švihov castle and Bohemian Forest.
But overall, yes, it was cooperation between DEFA and Barrandov film studios.
Well, I'll try to rewrite this czech dialog: Part I. Princ: Povězte mi, kdo jste. Popelka: Neumíte to poznat sám? Pr: Tak...odkryjte závoj. král: Já ho nepoznávám. královna: Dělá jen to, co sis přál. kr: Ale kdo je ona? krlo: Jsi nedočkavější, než tvůj syn. Pr: Tak mi alespoň naznačte, kdo jste. Po: Proč to chcete vědět?

yes, the prince is very handsome.^^ Imho he is one of the few really handsome princes in those czech/german classic fairy tale movies.
^_^ Best adaption of this fairy tale ever!

czech/german classic fairy tale movies.
you mean russian right? -_-
its a voiceover
SweetnessLovesDT 3 years ago
way you provoke by such a stupid way. Of course this is original version and it!s chzech. libuse Safrankova and Travnicek are czech actors and the movie was shot in czech - german coproduction. I don't know what you mean by voiceover but voices are original.
siepat 3 years ago 2
Pavel Travnicek was dubbed by Petr Svojtka. And, of course, the German actors were dubbed, too.

As for the fairy tales, Czech Republic is a very strong competitor to countries which have greater financial sponzorship. Think of that, this one is a masterpiece, not only due to actors but because of the lovely Czech nature. Krásná česká pohádka.
mirushka23 3 years ago
lovly Czech nature? LOL. It was filmed in East Germany, Saxon, Moritzburg,

Director is Czech. Protagonists are Czech. There are a few of german actors, but original version is in Czech language. We can argue about that story is inspired by GERMAN fairytale, written by Grimms , but that movie is Czech 70% and German around 30%.
I am not very nationalistic but I saw your mocking comments and I think you are.Are roundabouts too important for you although that's great movie in all?
lamerienda92 3 years ago 4
The film is actually based on a story by Bozena Nemcova ;o) not the Grimm Brothers...
temoa888 3 years ago 2
It was filmed in cooperation with Defa studios in DDR, exteriours of famous Moritzburg castle near Dresden were used in the film too. However, most of the filming staff were Czechs, including famous director Václav Vorlíček. Writers were Czech, music was composed by Czech, most actors were Czech, excluding few as the stepmother. Most of the film was filmed in Czech Rep., including Švihov castle and Bohemian Forest.
But overall, yes, it was cooperation between DEFA and Barrandov film studios.

PART III
Hmm?
Podruhé: Kloubouk s peřím, luk a kamizola, ale myslivec to není.
Kr: Co si to tam...
Krlo: Uklidni se, však se to dozvíš.
A potřetí: Šaty s vlečkou, stříbrem vyšívané, ale princezna to není, jasný pane.
Pr: Co?
Po: Škoda. Dokud nebudete znát odpověď na mou hádanku, sbohem!

PART II.
