  • I thought when I was a kid that she's gonna buy a "potato of milk". c",)

  • Sometimes when I see a loaf of bread I think of this. LOL!!!

  • This was obviously from a time when having a good memory actually counted for something - who needs that nowadays with Wikipedia and all of the i-gadgets? I noticed the artwork looks like the style from the TV show Vegetable Soup - maybe the same illustrator/s ?

  • @DariusFranke Yes, Jim Simon did a lot of the animation for Vegetable Soup as well, including the groovadelic opening titles.

  • Jazz flute!

  • I still hear this in my head once in a blue moon...along with the wicked jazz flute background tunage

  • This must rank among Sesame Street's top 5 CUTEST sketches!!

  • god...i remember this....love it

  • I think that bit was referenced in the 'Billy & Mandy' episode 'Tween Wolf' where Irwin walks down the street repeating his grocery list so he doesn't forget it.

  • and the pack of Newports

  • @rdmb57 A sack of weed, a container of St. Ides and a pack of Newports. Mommy, I remembered!

  • @komedycuts

You and the poster you responded to both have a great sense of You Tube humor!

  • You forgot the Faygo!

  • I still do this when my wife sends me to the store!

  • @Scorpiofootlvr

    Good for you!

  • I remember this list frm when I was like 4...I'm 36 now and thanks to her repetition it will probably ALWAYS be stuck in my memory. I did however forget that runway walk she had and who the Hell sends a 5 year old to the store by themselves. Oh wait this was back n the day before they had registered sex offenders I guess.

  • I was thinking about this today as I walked to Walgreen's for a loaf of bread, a container of milk and a pack of batteries. LMAO!

  • Still remember and say it. My husband never saw it and thinks I'm crazy

  • The music for that thought bubble used to freak me out.

  • My sister loved this Sesame Stree clip.

  • Oh My God.... I have been going through looking at old Sesame Street clips for about an hour!! This one almost made me cry because I remember when I had to go to the store for my mom as a kid! (and get the receipt she'd say) and I'm 40!! DANG U SESAME STREET MEMORIES!!! LOL

  • @toriano33

Did you often have to get a loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter? Bonus if you had to get potatoes too :-)

  • buttahhhh

  • I'll be 31 in a week and I have a six month old! I love showing her the old classic sesame street! So much more personal, especially between children and adults! If you want a trip down memory lane, look up "follow that bird" and "Don't eat the picture!" OMG they are awesome!

  • It's been a long time since I saw this, at least 20 years.

  • i'm 32 and I remember this!

  • Still remember this until this day.

  • Aww, this is so near and dear to my heart because it takes me back to being 5 years old again, watching Sesame Street. I'm 33 now and it's like I just saw this on tv yesterday.

  • @suzieprincess I am also 33 now and remember this particular one as well, for some reason :o)

  • Klassic!lol

  • still one of my favorite phrases to repeat

  • Looove it

  • I saw this being parodied on "Johnny Bravo" and shook my head as I realized my daughter would never get the reference.

  • OMG I remember this! I'm in my 30's now...cool how certain things we remember forever.

  • @tkmaz: :-) I'm 40 now and I remember this like it was yesterday.

  • I never forgot this shopping list but a stick of butter? where do yu get that?

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth Black families usually had to buy a stick of butter at a time because they couldnt afford a whole package. Plus they used fat for everything else, so they didnt use that much butter usually.

  • @metsdudenj

I'm just intrigued by the store being willing to sell one stick of butter at a time. It is a bit unusual no matter where it's located.

That is one smart little girl.

  • @PandaMishima It's actually not that unusual. I used to live in a fairly low income neighborhood and the little corner store sold sticks of butter, even though the sticks were clearly marked "not labeled for individual sale".

In the 1990s there was a crackdown on neighborhood stores selling loose cigarettes, but I don't think the authorities really care about sticks of butter.

  • @NantoVision1

I like your store's policy! Of course it probably helped that it was in a neighborhood with a high demand for sticks of butter, not like the tight-lipped mega-stores I have to deal with.

  • @metsdudenj

These days some stores do sell two sticks, or four half-sticks. Maybe they were inspired by our intrepid little marching girl. :-)

  • Thanks for posting this again! 'A loaf of bread' + 'a container of milk' + 'a stick of butter' + groovy music + the girl's march to the store = EXCELLENT MEMORY (both for the girl in this clip and me!)

  • @d72jjpilc She said stick of butter six times and forgot it when she went to to ask the man behind the county what she wanted. That's a good memory?

  • @67nairb

She just needed a minute to remember, that's all. Don't be so picky.
