Mark, these 12 stages of a hero's journey is actually a concept by Carl Jung who worked closely with Sigmuend Freud. His theory was that that there was typical hero that the human mind has always known this is based on his Archetypal theory, google it haha

it's funny cause at school we have to do a short movie in teams of 4 or 5 and my movie follows extaclty the 12 stage of the hero's journey

Cool summary. I'd say Memento is more in the tragic mode. (Google "Aristotle Poetics".) The idea is that a flawed, self-righteous hero make some sort of discovery ("anagnorisis") that leads to a complete reversal of fortune ("peripeteia") from good to bad. Frequently, what the hero discovers is that his actions were causing terrible harm, and he's not as self-righteous as he thought (Chinatown, Oedipus).

For some reason I couldn't find the moral choice in any of those stages, which is pretty important to the development and change in the character throughout the movie.

He forgot that these points are divided into different acts, hence called the 3 act structure. Probably just some side info, but might be interesting to know.

The way I learned it was actually slightly different (actually I learned it in two ways, a 5 point and a 10 point setup, how ever I think the 10 point setup is the easiest if u are a beginner film maker).

This is a nice video for very basic beginners, but to pigeonhole onself into this formulaic style of filmmaking inhibits growth as a filmmaker and development of individual style. I would use this as a very basic starting point but also interject your own voice/point of view into your project. I think that's missing in so many hollywood films today since they all pretty much look the same and have the same formulaic storyline. Just my thoughts. Like I said, very nice starting point.
