  • Mainly homophonic and polyphonic texture with sopranos rising to the top A at bar 110 along with the violins to create a homophonic texture. Based on four key ideas with parts imitating each-other and participating in canons. A major, modulates to B major once and E major twice. Oh, GCSE music. How I love thee.

  • I love how at 1:21 he just stops conducting and points

  • @RubberDuckssRule It's the mark of a good conductor, if you ask me. A good conductor is measured by the size of the stain on his pants. ...the fuck did I just say?

  • The plagal cadence at the end always gives me the shivers - it's so powerful! (Pardon the musical terminology)

  • I love watching this conductor. He really gets into the music! And he has total control of the orchestra and chorus.

  • @texmustangbullitt

Yes, the orchestra performs exceptionally well. Especially so in style, ensemble and accompaniment techniques. Bravo Orchestra!!!

  • it's been several years since i sang the messiah with a choir, but I can still remember every part as I listen. I hope to never forget.

  • Excellent! I remember performing this with church choir a few years back. Not the whole Messiah, just this one piece.

  • the is the kind of conductor i love working with. use to be a bassist

  • I remember singing this in high school choir...a wonderful conductor, teacher, friend and mentor Nick Arbor. This brings back memories...WHAT was Mr. Arbor thinking LOL how did he ever rein in a group of crazy high school kids to perform Handle? And we loved loved loved every minute of it. God Bless Nick Arbor

  • i think this is a great performance.

  • nicely done

  • powerful conductor!

  • @texmustangbullitt Aloha from Hawai'i where our snow is on a volcano! I am British lad, and I was being my usual cultural snobbish self, thumbing through Youtube and then was just put to shame at this wonderfully vibrant Canadian presentation of the Messiah. The orchestra is very nice indeed full and rich. The pronunciation is soft and refreshing. It's a holiday suprise!

  • @shtonker8 You bet it is laddy ;-) Thanks for sharing your comments!

    Merry Christmas to you!!

  • @jstumple Thank you. I stand corrected

  • Doug, interesting perspective on the vocals. Pehaps their pronunciation is American sounding beacuse they are American. ;-). I found the strings superior as well. What do you think?

  • @texmustangbullitt agree with you.... a very good group..messiah is NOT an easy work to perform (have sung its numbers many times, did the entire work once, and have even played harpsichord in performances). my only complaint is their pronunciation seems to be a little too american, the vowels needed to be a little more rounded... but still an excellent sound and perfect balance between the sections. very good

  • @Doug19752533 I too have done this piece many times from HS on to Church Choirs..this is an excellent rendition!

  • @Doug19752533 I too have done this piece many times from HS on to Church Choirs..this is an excellent rendition! They are from just across the border.......

  • Great job !

  • great energy from the conductor!

  • @brictalents hes pretty damn awesome XD

  • great diction!

  • @MILLMANTV1 so is it a written music exam, or a performance exam

  • @popcap200 it's a written exam, we have 12 pieces of music which include Handle, Jeff Buckley, Schoenberg and Steve Reich

  • Excellent! I sang in Oratorio Chorus for 6 years, under a conductor who trained with Robert Shaw. Finally I understand, after watching this conductor and choir, what my conductor was trying to accomplish! If the rehearsals can be uploaded, PLEASE do so!

  • Very lovely. And I really like the energy and exuberance of the conductor.

  • very nice

  • @MILLMANTV1 what is GCSE

  • @popcap200 Stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education. I suppose you don't live in England or you'd know.

  • @MILLMANTV1 Hell yeah! :D

  • Superbly done...and the conductor's style is refreshing!

  • This conductor is doing a very refreshing command. I love messiah. I think that it is necessary to listen to it from the power of people more.

  • the conductor has awsome timing and rhythm its like he's almost dancing to the music.

  • @MILLMANTV1 lol yeh that's the only reason i'm listening =D gl

  • We're doing this for music GCSE at school, and I still can't get over how amazing it is. Great performance

  • This conductor knows every parts of the piece. Great and spectacular.

  • Studying this in Year 11 GCSE Music, it was quite a refreshing start to a monday morning. I'm an atheist but this is still beautiful!

  • @TutsPlus i'm doing it in year 9 GCSEs, accelerated curriculum :)

  • @TutsPlus ive just started doing this but im in yr 10 lol

  • No less a man than Beethoven regarded Handel as "The master of us all". When you listen to this you can understand why!.

  • Absolutely phantastic! excellent conductor

  • Does anyone know who the Conductor is for this piece? We could do with his 'guidance' and musical verve 'transposed' (pardon the pun), to the singers......

  • @Gaggymott - The conductor is John Goulart... he is also a classsical guitarist. He lives in Banff, AB Canada. I used to sing in this choir many years ago. he is amazing to work with!!

  • Wow, I like this arrangement and slightly up-tempo version! There are directors that drag this piece and you feel like the Glory will be here before the section ends. This is lovely. lovely, lovely. Thak you for posting one of my favorite sections of Messiah.

  • handel handel handel ho!

  • This conductor is spectacular !!! WOW !!

  • THE CONDUCTOR IS JUST AWESOME!!

  • Awesome conductor and chorus.

  • Impressive!

  • My second favorite movement of the piece.

  • Amazing

  • And the glory of the lord, it's over 9000

  • wonderful!

  • Perfect!

  • I love how you kept the tempo up on this piece. It is easy to let it drag down to nothing by the end. GREAT JOB!

  • MARVILOUS

  • *MARVELOUS

  • Awesome! This is so very inspiring! Musically, spiritually so valiant and rich. It makes me want to live in Bow Valley. Where is that? Ouch. Very burrrr cold. Kudos Bow Valley. You guys can "Make the Air With Music Ring!". Keep up the great work!

  • Astounding!! and fascinating!! piece. I love to here on the day birth of the Messiah.

  • Handel was in the zone and fully inspired by the almighty. Praise God.

  • @bryansail33 Cause "God" wrote it. Right?

  • My Christmas song! I like it so much! Messiah!

  • Absolutely beautiful !!! Having sung the "Messiah", it is definitely not an easy piece to sing and sing it well !!! Everytime I hear this chorus I get chills in my spine !!!

  • This song is forever stuck in my head. My school's chorus {myself included} just sang a few selections from Messiah. Beautiful music. Wahoo, tenors!

  • One of my most fave parts of the oratorio. :D Nice rendition! Though the voices seem slightly pop-ish. Anyway, 4 stars!

  • Wonderful.

  • What an outstanding group.Last night I sang with a bass section of a church group that performed The Messiah. If we sounded half as good as this chorus, I will be very pleased.

  • omg my high school [Broughton High school) sanged this song on 12/10/09 and i think we sounded really good.!! [:

  • pirty

  • Imagine what it must have been like when it first came out!

  • So good.....just so good! Merry Christmas!

  • Splendid!

  • Fantastic. The conductor is briliant. The voices are superb. Fantastic.

  • greatttttttttttttttt

  • This is a perfect learning tool for the timing.

  • i'm doing it in music too and we were told to listen to it?????????

  • Thank you soo much for posting, I want to sing this with the local choir and everybody there already knows it, so I need to learn it. My mom let me borrow her score, but I just needed the music, and this is an excellent recording for me to sing with! ^.^

  • Bravo!

  • I allways image Handel's work being sung in the largest ampa theater with Thousands of musicians and singers

  • Powerfull and syncopic.

Handel like it SHOULD be performed.

  • I had to listen to this because its one of my GCSE set works, and its actually really good.

    Handel = genius

  • Yeah Ive been having to listen to loads of new music 4 my GCSE set works too. Its got me listening to soooooooooo much gd stuff i wouldnt usually!!

  • wonderful! This is such a moving piece because the creator was moved by praise for the Highest Power of all to give praise! Gotta love it

  • What a moving performance! Very good articulation - our oratorio will be performing it too.

  • WOW! What an amazing performance. Beautiful. Director is awesome - reminds me of Leonard Bernstein.

  • The music director is an amazing person. He radiates energy in to the choir. His elegant body movements, the precision with which he signals the start of each piece is simply wonderful.

  • Well, I finally found out who that charming (and into his work) director is..... John Goulart! And of course, he is a classical guitarist, too.

  • Research say messiah is played 5000 times every year in all around the world.

This is a music from God. It will live forever while others will only live in a trend

  • So true..........

  • @Jayasat unless it's FFVII :D Sephiroth kicks asssssss

  • @Jayasat so where is this statistic coming from?

  • @pokesurfer "God" told him so.

  • @Jayasat Religion is a trend. Give it a while, logic will triumph. Then Handel can suck my sacrilegious toe.

  • @Jayasat I disagree, this music is simply beautiful unlike any other. And for that reason will it live forever.

  • @Kevin4779 Imagine Halelluja without the lyrics it has now. It would ot be th same song. This song was made for Gods glory and when people hear it they just feel uplifted.

  • @cowsaymoo2x i can name you a hundred songs with lyrics about god in them and they suck and no one listens to them. if we replaced the lyrics with something else. it would still be loved today for it's amazing arrangement.

  • You cant deny the fact that when you listen to Heleluja you imagine something heavenly and powerful. The composer was inspired to write this music for God. He got his inspiration from the Bible. You cant just change the lyrics and think it wil be another song. The composers original plan was to make an awesome song about Gods glory. Different lyrics change the personality, mood, meaning, depth, and basically everything ofthis song. dont mean to argue but the songs purpose is to praise God.

  • perfect

  • Sounds so good and pure...I love Handel's pieces!!!

  • All right, JStumple...who is that amazing director? :) He brought so much in this choir!

  • That conductor FEELS the music........ what an honor for the group to be directed by this great man!

  • I want to know who that Conductor is also. He brings forth so much energy and is absolutely congruent with each sections timings.

This particular group bring me to tears each time I watch it!

  • I dont belive in god, but if there is one hes probably smiling in heaven when he hear this :)

  • Who in the world is that conductor? He is fabulous!!!!!! He is bringing out the best of the choir because he is so enthusiastic! Bravo!

  • I agree - What a good Musical Director! :)

  • and the glory of the lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the lord hath spoken it....thats pretty much all the words

  • Soli Deo Gloria!

  • Excellent performance!
