Randy the Ex-manager don't get sympathy from me, because he condoned it till he got fired, so let him drown alone. That's the worst kind of snitch..One that plays the game & tell it all after he/she looses.
Policy and proceadure. The problem is the Franchisee is cutting corners in order to make ends meet. Therefore hires people from countries where clenliness is not a traddition nor practiced daily. The result of getting what you pay for. I was pleased to see no Marriott properties were featured, the main reason that I only stay at Marriott hotels. Its all about quality with Marriott, and I don't care of it costs a few dollars more. Clean is clean and short cuts are dirty business.
As someone who has worked in a few hotel during my younger days, my advice is to take a quick glance at the chambermaid trolleys when you get the chance to. Most hotels replace used cups and glasses with new ones cleaned and sanitised by industrial-grade dishwashers.
If you don't see them in the trolley, well, just make sure you wash them yourselves -- thoroughly. :D
I used to "clean" the glasses in the same way (rinse and dry with a dirty towel) when I worked in a 4 star hotel in Europe.
The point was that the chambermaids were pressed to clean too many rooms per day, far more than a normal person can sustain, many of the workers get muscle sickness after working for 2 years.
The hotel management tried to stop the trend. However the cleaning company which was the employer of the chambermaids kept on adding workload per shift. So you know.
actually, i worked in a high-class restaurant in my summer job, the same situation occured. so , i do think that all the catering industry may have the same problem. it's hard to avoid , just trying to bring your own cup or disposable cups.
OMG!!! Do Not Drink!!! Thats funny, because thats what it says on the bottle of dish detergent that I use. And guess what? My dishwasher soap says "Do not eat."
Phew, at least all the hotels I've been to gave packs of plastic cups in the rooms to use! And otherwise, I drink out of bottles or my own plastic cups. D:
I am glad that the Media makes us aware of these things. It forces companies to get their act together or else their business will suffer.
When I travel and have to overnight in hotels, I expect a clean and safe room for the money I pay and I avoid hotels that don't meet those basic standards.
Between the companies, their bottom line, wanting to make the most profit, and customers wanting a good deal without spending much, is it really a surprise that this happens? :(
It's not the maids fault, their job is really to make things LOOK clean, not actually be clean ESPECIALLY in lower end hotels. Most places give the maids 20 mins from the time they step in the room to the time they leave to "clean" the room and thats barely enough time to get things wiped down let alone sanitary. Some maids work only part time also, and they are expected to clean 12 rooms in 4 hours. They train them to make a worthless effort so they dont have to pay them what it's really worth
Housekeeping between guests is different from housekeeping for the same guest between days.
That doesn't excuse most of this but it explains some... or at least the procedure that was likely initiated before it transformed into what you see before you.
it happens everywhere, its all down to time,we have only 24mins from entering a room to leaving it,if it takes us longer than 24mins to clean we dont get paid the extra time,so dont be so hard on the maid, shes obviously been trained to do the washing up like that
Whats sad is that these people expect tips on top of that, this sucks because I travel 30-40% of the time for my job. I'm bringing my own glasses from now on.
When maid was asked about this she responded,"Que quieres?" Btw, I have usually seen plastic cups at hotels...I'm wondering how this maid cleans up at home...betch she has four kids sick all the time from "unknown" causes.
I wrote comment about this maid probably having 4 kids at home sick from "unknown causes" Windex for everything...she thinks she's the dad from "my Big Fat Greek Wedding!
This is sad because lives are at stake. You go into a hotel healthy then come out sick it doesn't make sense. like really who should we blame the hotel, the employee. The more i think of this the more i believe this is a dog eat dog world. That knowbody cares about your health and just worried about getting the money.
