Lettuce be reality, the Empire was fighting to bring peace to the galaxy. It was basically the precursor to the United States and NATO. Those pesky fundamentalist rebels and their "Force" are the real villains
Notice the Rebels have to lower base shields in order to allow their craft to escape, quite unlike the energy shields in the prequels. I guess energy shields and deflector shields are two different things.
i love how luke puts in all that he has got to keep the attackers back and in check, he wisely and instantly improvises, that is passion for the bigger course !
Leia: May I have everyone's attention? We're about to evacuate into space, with literally infinite directions in which to flee. However, we have decided to fly directly towards the star destroyer. Are there any questions?
Pilot: Yeah, is there someone from the military we can talk to? Preferably a man?
2:50 is why the originals are better than the prequels. Admiral Ozzel is a minor character who is killed in his next scene, but the five seconds they took to show him giving the Evil Eye to Piett tells you everything about his personality. A bunch of minor characters in the prequels were just there to give out information and had no personality.
To be honest I think most of the main characters of the prequels have no personality. Qui-Gon Jinn? Darth Maul? Bail Organa? Mace Windu? Heck, even Padme and Anakin come across as really flat and uninteresting.
Hm, I guess I've watched RedLetterMedia's reviews of the prequels one times to many. He is right though.
The day Lucas fired Gary Kurtz as producer and decided Irvin Kershner wasn't the director his franchise needed, was the day it took a nosedive.
Says everybody. Apparently millions agree with what Mr.Plinkett says in his prequal reviews. He only said what everybody was thinking but didn't dare saying. Watch those reviews and talk later.
@McLarenMercedes: I don't care what some whiny fanboys/girls who call themselves 'critics' have to say; they're all full of it and themselves. Lucas made the movie HE WANTED TO MAKE, not them; let's see them get to Hollywood and make it making, writing producing, and directing movies. As for the rest who do hate the prequels-sheeple got to run after shepherds because they're all brainless, and haters got to hate. I'm not going to be a part of either group.
@Batou3 When Obi Wan goes to Kamino, those long necked creatures who run the cloning facility. The alien who greets Obi Wan on Utapau. Count Dooku to an extent, but Christopher Lee is such a great actor he can make such a nothing character come alive. Captain Panaka and his replacement, also. Panaka could've been interesting because it seemed like he didn't like the Jedi, but he never went any further than saying "I DON'T AGREE WITH YOU" a bunch of times.
@havlorech: Why was/is Panaka supposed to be more than he was? Was Lobot (John Hollis) more than what he should have been? Was Bib Fortuna more than what he was supposed to be?
@Neville6000 Unlike those other two guys, Panaka was in pretty much the whole movie as the guard captain, and really no effort was made to give him a personality other than a couple times when he disagreed with the Jedi. You can compare him to Piett, who, from his dialogue and acting ability, you could tell didn't want to be the admiral but would do his best possible job, and of course he was scared shitless of Vader, unlike Ozzel.
@havlorech the asnwer is very simple. Lucas came up with the concepts of star wars, however all three scripts for episodes 4,5,and 6 were heavily edited by seasoned script writers and episode 5, and 6 were directed by someone else. Lucas really didnt have much control over episodes 4,5, and 6. However episodes 1,2,and 3 you see his stamp on everything, scenes chocked with to much CGI, terrible dialog, missed dramtic opportunities. There's your answer.
Just for that detail you mention about the characters, the OT is better than the PT?
it is not a solid and objective argument to compare both trilogies.
Example: Both trilogies have annoying characters (C-3PO in OT, Jar-Jar Binks in PT), but are important, but at least, annoying.
I am 40 years old, I grew up with the OT, but I like both trilogies the same way. In fact, my favorite movie of the saga is "Revenge of the Sith", by a very slight preference over the other five movies.
@havlorech Ozzel is still a non-entity. He only existed to be dumb and die. Only the main characters got any development in the movies, all the rest got theirs in the comics, novels and supplementary material, in both the OT and PT.
@Wirrn "Attack Pattern Delta: Fly in a straight line directly into the enemy's only field of fire. Presumably Alpha, Beta, and Gamma are even less subtle."
Only REAL men use Attack Pattern Delta. Just remember that.
@SpadaccinoLuciano *buzzer* You're thinking of the phonetic alphabet used for making sure you don't get individual letters wrong over a radio. The Greek alphabet - often used for labelling things in order, as one would attack patterns - does not have a letter charlie. Nato phonetic alphabet also uses Bravo, some use other words, none use Beta. Except the greeks.
@Wirrn if im right Alpha is an order to land the ships and engage on foot whit your bare hands. think its supose to make the enemy comfuset. aaaa the grate minds of war!
No, both the first Star Wars were shot in Pinewood studios in England (Return of the Jedi wasn't) and Lucas decided to simplify things by having his English cast be the Empire, although you have to remember Sir Alec Guiness who plays Obi-Wan is English. Also the voice of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones, is American.
Many of the British actors Lucas hired had done roles before in which they were villains so he intended them to be baddies from the start. It just happened.
I love when Vader says "GENERAL VEERS!" and then turns around to realize that Veers is right there and about 6 inches from his face. In most movies that would be a comedic moment, but Vader doesn't flich or break his sentence, just says what he needs to and walks off.
He is incompetent. Probably one of those pompous and arrogant old admirals who thinks sending probes is a waste of time and "unworthy" of a grand fleet. Plenty of those found in real history, read about the British General Douglas Haig in WW1, who refused to learn from modern warfare and listen to younger commanders.
Another explanation is that he is convinced the Rebels would never have a base in such a cold and hostile planet so it's a waste of time. Arrogance is stupidity.
@McLarenMercedes It's also possible that he wanted to check things out with some further reconnaisance before sending a major force over. If that's the case, then it sort of makes sense, as he doesn't have Vader's force-based intuition to know for sure that it's the Rebel base.
This battle is amazing, the sheer size of the Imperial Walkers and the moment where the guy looks through the binoculars and then he sees the gigantic walkers coming to the base, which adds to the sheer size of amazing-ness that the scene hold for the Trilogy. The battle of Hoth (IN MY OPINION) is one of the most amazing Sci-Fi battles I've ever seen.
@mrGlitch2000 Your description is awesome. But sorry, couldn't help but laugh because it reminded me of Family Guy. After looking through the binoculars, he says something like, "Look, it's wearing crocs." Haha
if the rebellion have the General Garm bel imblis using his Gargantuan battle platform things will be slighlty better he can help to to with the AT AT With THOSE speeders and luke usings his lightsaber cut some holes underneath the aT at and drop thermo denonators into it they could have destroyed at least 3 AT AT with wedge asistance included leaving GENERALS VEERS AT AT on its own with other AT STS that is all
@BeNjI6576 agreed. the juxtaposition of the rebels' heroism vs. the empire's dominance in general has always been the highlight of the movie's filmmaking to me. especially just as luke hacks down the walker with his lightsaber, irvin kershner's like "fuck that" and immediately cuts to veers slaughtering retreating dudes and destroying the generator. vader peering out above all things. those fighters are like enraged wasps!
The first time I saw the Star Destroyers being overshadowed by something, I was like "what the hell, those things are hu....holy HELL! That thing is ginormous!"
@MINN3APOLIS Right 8:38. They didn't even flinch when the 2 Snowspeeders were blastin the cockpit 2 feet in front of them. That's having confidence in your war machine.
SO much better than Star Trek, and if you come with the "no sound in space crap" i only say; so you think there's klingons/humas with asses for faces?
@EmperorofTerra It depends on the character of the grand admiral. If a grand admiral had the personality traits like grand moff tarkin, they would have got along great with a few intellectual arguments, A being able to acknowledge and respect Vader's place and his power of the force. Grand Admiral Thrawn, despite there differences in cammand strategy would respect Vader even if Vader's ways are too harsh. He would do well to remember his place. Ozzel was to blind through arroganance
@ROOOK699 Ozzel imo was an egoist and arrogant, especially to minor officers and cadets. This elemental but decisive failure of fleet coordination of course would have never happened to someone like a one of the Grand Admirals. Well Ozzel as Fleet Admiral of course had not the same position like Tarkin or Thrawn and Vader surely had no problems executing him, especially when the Admiral was allready ranked as suspicious in the eyes of the Sith Lord.
@ROOOK699 I am pretty sure that most Grand Admirals were too self confident and arrogant in terms of might, to let a Sith Lord get in their way, when there are disputes. You just have to look at the fact, that almost half of the GA's mercilessly tried to destroy eachother because of gaining ultimate power and that without any interference of the Rebellon.
Lettuce be reality, the Empire was fighting to bring peace to the galaxy. It was basically the precursor to the United States and NATO. Those pesky fundamentalist rebels and their "Force" are the real villains

The pilot of the AT-AT is sick as hell. So arrogant about the power of his ship and the empire. So cool my favorite

@MINN3APOLIS Right 8:38. They didn't even flinch when the 2 Snowspeeders were blastin the cockpit 2 feet in front of them. That's having confidence in your war machine.

Darth Vader and his commanders problem. I wonder how his relation would be to Grand Admirals
EmperorofTerra 10 months ago
@EmperorofTerra It depends on the character of the grand admiral. If a grand admiral had the personality traits like grand moff tarkin, they would have got along great with a few intellectual arguments, A being able to acknowledge and respect Vader's place and his power of the force. Grand Admiral Thrawn, despite there differences in cammand strategy would respect Vader even if Vader's ways are too harsh. He would do well to remember his place. Ozzel was to blind through arroganance
ROOOK699 9 months ago
@ROOOK699 Ozzel imo was an egoist and arrogant, especially to minor officers and cadets. This elemental but decisive failure of fleet coordination of course would have never happened to someone like a one of the Grand Admirals. Well Ozzel as Fleet Admiral of course had not the same position like Tarkin or Thrawn and Vader surely had no problems executing him, especially when the Admiral was allready ranked as suspicious in the eyes of the Sith Lord.
EmperorofTerra 9 months ago
@ROOOK699 I am pretty sure that most Grand Admirals were too self confident and arrogant in terms of might, to let a Sith Lord get in their way, when there are disputes. You just have to look at the fact, that almost half of the GA's mercilessly tried to destroy eachother because of gaining ultimate power and that without any interference of the Rebellon.
EmperorofTerra 9 months ago
How does Vader know Skywalker already? He never met him in person yet.

Do you think any of these extras realized the fandom they were creating when they were filming this?
Irishflyboy255 10 months ago
The rebels should at least be glad that the AT-ATs weren't equipped with projectile weapons like Proton Torpedos.
