I don't think Godard would hate it. The music in "Une Femme est une femme" is the equivalent music of his time and place. I guess to be true to his style you'd have to have the Stefani song cut in and out. ;)
BUT ANYWAY...I LOVE A LOT OF GODARD'S WORK! BELMONDO IS AMAZING! KARINA IS SO HOT! HIS OPENING CREDITS TEND TO BE REALLY COOL TOO...especially if you take into account the time the films were made.
a ki minkia si pazzu ?ma ki spakkiu fai?ti piacerebbe a te se tu faresti un film e un coglione dopo 30anni ti fa un montaggio usando una canzone del cazzo e le immagini del tuo film..testa di minkia!!!
Godard would watch and then dumbfound u all with a brilliant exegesis joining the beats , arrangement etc . This works on many levels the lie of consumerism. The nice surface( female voicethe word"escape",pop sounds etc.)plays on mind covering truths hinted at .
I'd puke all over Godard!Nah,not really,I'm a fan of his but I do think he's too pretentious, especially in his post-'68 period.I mean, seriously, have you seen 'eloge de l'amour'? I found watching it was so tiresome! Also, he's a bit of a hypocrite. I mean, he praised Hollywood films of the 40s and 50s(Samuel Fuller, Hitchcock, Ford, Aldrich, etc.)for their entertainment value-and shat all over artsy fartsy novel adaptations. But then Goadrd went on to make films that were SO artsy fartsy.
Not a bad pairing. We were partying the other night and someone played "Easy (like Sunday morning)" while the bedroom scene where the bullets fly through the window at Pacino and Keaton in "The Godfather" played silently on the TV, and it kind of worked in a twisted way.
c'mon dude! Let's not be smug or hurl bad feelings to fellow Godard appreciators. Save all that evil stuff for people like Lucas, Speilberg, J.K. Rowling(Harry Potter)and the rest of Hollywood okay!!!
chum88 this isn't a videoclip for the song, someone has just put the music with some footage from a Godard film. don't be so close minded and negative.
wow! genius! one of the best things I've seen around here. great editing. and right on the spot: gwen stefani totally hits the feel and beat of godard/karina. I think if godard was still in his playfull period, he surely would have used stefani somewhere in his films, like he did with chantal goya in the 60s.
thanks for making this, I hope you'll be doing more edits like it.
are you fucking kiddy me?!!! the music is one of the fascinating things about this film. cut up a masterpiece with shit music, and obvious, mtv style beat timed edits. wow! amazing! it's even worse than bands playing to live to screenings of alphaville, or asian dub foundation's performances with la haine, which is only a good film. sound and music are perfect in godard.
which godard film is this?

I agree utterly. I hope Godard, or at least the genius pre-1968 Godard would appreciate this. Post-something maybe? However, smart!

Karina winking at the end is just lovely.
Very moving. Points up both the timelessness of Godard's images and the surprising deep tradition of a great pop song. Really infectious.

I keep watching this. At first I thought, "Who in the world would like both Jean-Luc Godard & Gwen Stefani enough to make this?"
Then I thought, "THIS IS THE BEST!"

I think Godard would approve. He would call this a quotation of his work, a recontextualization.
