  • Super vid man. Just subbed, thought I had already long ago, hehe. Come up north some time for some winter camping, my last night out it was -30C (-27F).

  • You're so good to take your girls camping like this. My dad is great, but I do wish he and my older brother had bothered to teach me these things, instead of thinking I couldn't or wouldn't want to because I was a girl.

  • I wish i had the opportunity to camp in the woods like this .... ireland just doesnt compare to the american wilderness.

  • You have inspired me.

    Thank you for sharing this.

After watching this I will be taking my eight year old son camping next weekend.

  • If your carrying a Fal rifle...your going to die !...lol

  • @azratt Why is that? IMHO the FAL is an excellent battle rifle! There's a reason it was adopted and used by so many NATO countries (over 90 of them!), for so long! It was nicknamed "The right arm of the free world"! Though I'm torn between buying an FAL or an AR10 design because of the AR10's parts commonality and identical ergonomics of my AP4 carbine. I think that every military weapon is a great weapon, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses! I enjoy AK's just as much as my AR!

  • Your a good man yankee, you remind me a lot of my dad Haha. Hey just by chance, was that your voice I heard on the "doomsday prepper" commercial?? I've watched basically all of your videos so I should know this, it was only for a second but I thought I picked it up.

  • Hey Yankee, check out Seattle Times January 17th, article about an 65 year old hiker who was lost for 2 days in same area as the Ass Hat who killed ranger. He burned his money to stay warm. Good example of a good guy who had what he needed and skills to survive in difficult situation. A good citizen, and good father. A REAL man.

  • Awesome night out. MN winters rock.

  • how far north are we talking here?

  • Actual I was talking about your green intermediate sleeping bag that you had on your ruck. Thats the one I was issued in the Army during the 90's, I froze my ass off in those things, If yours wasn't intermediate I apologize. I was saying the ECWS was a big improvement over the old intermediate bag. BTW I know you would'nt believe it, but at times it gets pretty damn cold in Louisiana during the winter because of the humidity in the air, combine that with windchill 25 degrees feel like 0 degrees.

  • You named your dog Yankee...THAT ALONE MAKES THIS EPIC :)

  • Yankee, you're living the dream out there in God's country. It's cool how your kids appreciate the outdoors too. Excellent vid.

  • Beauty vid mate. Lovely to hear your kids having so much fun and learning.

  • Thanks for taking us with you Yankee. Still laughing about the straws!

  • where exactly is this place in MN?

  • you are a rad father !

  • You know... never thought of using hand sanitizer for fire starting. +1 on CS Lewis and Tolken

  • what kind of water filter/pump do you use yankee?

  • men that suck through straws!

  • Wow! This is just a great video....I have watched it twice now. Thanks for sharing YP!

  • Great dad time and education for the girls!

  • HEY THERE YANKEEPREPPER, FROM 1 MINNESOTAN TO ANOTHER, I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHECK OUT DULUTH PACK COMPANY FOR SOME DARN GOOD SUPPLIES. EVERYTHING THEY MAKE IS TOP OF THE LINE AND BULLET PROOF. ALSO, WE LOVE YANK THE DOG!

  • Great video!! The waterfalls were excellent and having fun with the kids. My wife and I have a few camping trips planned this year for our two kids as well. God bless You YankeePrepper!!

  • Once again my friend, simply the best. My daughters (4) loved this as well. You need a kifaru tipi and wood stove!

  • Beautiful, amazing, loving, and realistic are just a few words I can say that describes what you do. This is my first post on you tube so excuse the length. I am inspired by what you post every day and I hope to apply the same knowledge. I have two kids of my own "boy & girl" and trying my best to teach them to appreciate life and what they have. Its hard in the society we live in today. Especially when I have to fight for something silly as custody with a mother that lives on the system. BZYP

  • I am always impressed by how respectful you talk to your children and how much you teach them while still having fun. Blessings!

  • YP, this is one of the best videos you have ever done. I was dumbstruck by the beauty of the countryside. And you sir, are not only a father, but a REAL DAD.

God Bless you and your family,

    Tex

  • Awesome video. Beautiful scenery. I think it is awesome that you are teaching your kids about the realities and beauty of the great outdoors. They will remember stuff like this forever. Great job.

  • Looked like a wonderful time. Thank you for sharing!

  • @OGdank13 It's awesome when a crude jackass such as yourself reveals himself in such an obvious way. Buzz off, fly...

  • Well, that is certainly beating a world of Spongebob and X-box for those girls.

  • I wonder if Bear Grylls went thru there?

  • That was absolutely delightful.

I just loved watching the water flowing behind the ice-sheets on the waterfalls. Actually it is rather mesmerising.

  • thanks for taking us with you on the trip. saw many beautiful things we never see down south....just awesome......

  • Your kids are going to have some great memories to look back on over the years. Not to mention the skills and lessons learned. Truly priceless.

  • How do you know if that water is not polluted? You just boil it?

  • @WatchPolitician liberals, bugs, ows protesters, microbes and other parasites do not scare me.

  • @WatchPolitician

its northern minnesota just about any water from any lake is good enough to drink

  • Thanks for sharing that, God's creation is so awesome. It reminded me of "THe lion, the witch, and the wardrobe"

  • @1835msd My children said that several times! They were actually playing out the part on the frozen falls and the wolves for a while. It made me very happy to see them quoting the book. The first books I read to them were the Hobbit and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

  • @Yankeeprepper C.S. Lewis really affected my walk with God. His writings brought my logic and my imagination together and made everything so feasible. I read them to my children also. I have to get my kids outside like you more. Thank you

  • Thank you for sharing the beauty and majesty of winter...Here is SoCal we don't get alot of that. BTW you shouldn't abuse your children like that. They should be home doing Facebook and watching Justin Beaber video's....Shame on you for teaching them to love the outdoors, learning and spending time with dad. JEEZE what kind of American are you? I'll tell you.....THE BEST KIND! Love ya keep up the good work

  • Great video, Gotta love the winter and the snow.

  • Oh, forgot to ask, what is the NSN on that cold weather bag?

  • @SultanOfShinola NSN 8465-01-033-8057 / with hood. Tennier Industries is the Manuf. (these were made from the 70's to the mid 2000's) 10 lbs total weight of Down and Poly fill. You can usually get them for new for 60 to 90 bucks on Ebay delivered. And they will outlast any of the 300 dollar REI mountain bags. At 10 pounds, they are pretty light considering a 20 below rating, but can't be compressed like the news ones. I carry mine on top and have a waterproof carrier as well

  • Dang, my Goal0 panel and charger set didn't come with the battery charger. I'm going to have to look for one of those! Looks like you and your two daughters had a great time out together. Take care!

  • I am so jealous! Love camping in the winter! Sleeping bag nice and snug and well motivated to get going in the morning!

  • Awesome video!!!! The water behind the ice was amazing to watch!!! It's really neat that your daughters come along with you...never heard them complain once. :-)

  • @averageprepper Well...you know how well "complaining and moaning" goes on my channel...... SO you can imagine it doesn't go over well with me in my home. Like my dad before me, complaining is for the "other guy". My girls are chin up, most of the time. Thanks for the comment.

  • That's an experience they will never forget. They learned more on that short trip than most kids do in years. Good on you mate!

  • Thats some amazing video. Thanks.

  • The way your daughters get so excited about the portable solar panel and charger makes me smile :)

  • @greenmarcosu You ought to see them when I got the diesel turbo wound out or when I am burning rubber tires for "global warming day"

  • @Yankeeprepper

    LMAO!!! for global warming day!

  • @Yankeeprepper Right on. Nothing brings back fond memories of childhood like toasting marshmallows on a smouldering pile of BF Goodrich Radials

  • GREAT VID YANKEE!! THOSE GIRLS WILL REMEMBER THAT FOREVER...

  • GREAT !!

  • great video...i did lots of winter camping growing up in NH , and like you said it is alot of fun...and if i ever needed to "bug out" i have the skills i need to be relatively comfortable and safe...love these kind of vids brother.

  • Excellent video YP.........watching this reminds me of some of my childhood memories with my Dad. Proverbs 22:6... Train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

  • LOL, great video idea! A good lesson for all, and a beautiful memory for your family. Thank you for sharing it with us!

  • super cool

  • I could hear the love for the wilderness in your children's voices. Nice job DAD!

  • Nice one Yankee

  • you are a great dad. your family is very lucky to have you. Great video, gorgeous landscape.

  • men that sucked through straws... haha... how about chop-stick straws. lol

  • You ever put plastic grocery store bags between your boots and socks, if your boots get wet, atleast your socks stay dry. then some rubber bands on the jeans where the bags are high so if the water is higher than the bag, its kind of sealed without cutting off the circulation. works for me.

  • Cool waterfall :)

  • A man with his priorities straight.... who recognizes what is important in life... and who makes his family the first priority... Congratulations... wherever you "got it".... you "get it". Keep em coming Yankee... Your a breath of fresh air in the "me" generation.

  • @SpartanMonkee The down filled weighs about 10 pounds. The "new" modular system weighs about 12 pounds. The new ones have more zippers and crap to go wrong and struggle with when sleeping in and wear out alot faster, and lose their ability to insulate alot sooner than the old style. And the old ones were humped long distances by alot of guys for decades. Please take the conversation to your channel, so I don't feel responsible for your "info" on my channel.

  • @Yankeeprepper No problem, it's your channel. I just deleted all my posts here. In the future, I will refrain from trying to help your subs.

  • @SpartanMonkee Thanks. The vids I put up and the channel I maintain represent work to me. I try very hard to make sure that all the info I present is correct and accurate. I also feel responisible for all info that I allow to be presented.

  • You're a great dad!

  • Great vid! Thanks

  • Great video, I had my daughter (6 yr.) out last weekend and we had a blast. Last year I was able to get out into the Pocono Mts. here in PA. We started in at dark for a night hike it was 8 degrees, high the next entire weekend was 23 degrees. Had the dog with her pack & coat carrying her own food and water. Hope you do not stop the videos anytime soon, I can not tell you how much I have learned from your channel. Health & happiness to you and the family.

  • @mcerleam Thanks for the comment and your story. The greatest gift my dad ever gave me was his time and to this day I cling to those "times" with him.

  • best buidup for a video yet lol. My daughter is 4 i cant wait to take her out camping with the wife.

  • Beautiful, thanks for sharing that with us!

  • YP, great video; thank you for letting us tag along. I think having the little ones there makes it all worth it. It obviously wasn't their first rodeo, they sounded like old pros.

  • Great location and waterfalls.

    God Bless,

    Elba

  • nice have perfect quality time with daughthers, Awesome view

  • I just came back from snow-cave camping in Mt. Rainier near where that shooter, I mean, survivalist, was found dead. I'll post a video in the next day or so.

  • When i am not ruining a happy family by blowing away an unarmed park ranger i like to start my fires with the muzzle flash from my MAC-10 machine pistol (a true survivalists firearm),oh that and having my frail, aging grandmother take 'gangster' photos of me brandishing my MAC-10 (sans shirt) whilst living in my grandmothers basement (living off of here meagre pension may i add)

Joking aside your two daughters can do what a 'iraq veteran survivalist' could not.

    Saludos!

  • @SpartanMonkee Really? Thanks a bunch! I'll have to pass this on to my team. We have been looking around for bags but even the military surplus store we visit here in Cali is a little expensive. Do you know what brand the bag is or are they sold separately?

  • Hand sanitizer Jello shots LoL.

  • pretty cool, iowa is jealous

  • Nothing can beat the beauty of God.

  • Besides having excellent company, those girls will remember how cool ,skilled, and loving their father was for the rest of their lives

  • Thank you! We've purchased several different kinds but the zippers and/or straps wear out after a few trips. The last one we bought cost us nearly $70 and didn't make it through a 4 day backpacking trip thank goodness for 550 cord lol. I was considering making my own but I'll look into these first, thanks!

  • I thought you said you lived in MN buddy? That looks more like Alaska! LOL. We have not had winter yet here in the windy city. I've been running and cycling here while the weather is still mild. I know winters comin' yet I still refuse to put the shorts and flip flips away :)

  • Not a mosquito in sight !

  • STICK YOUR CHEST OUT AND BE PROUD OF THOSE GIRLS AND A JOB WELL DONE. GOOD JOB RAISING THEM AND A GREAT VIDEO. GOD HAS TRULY BLESSED YOU.

  • Lucky girls !

  • I love your sense of humor. Perfect.

  • The BWCA is the best isn't it? (I know your not there in the video.) I to love the Sven saw, light, sturdy, user friendly and stows easily.

Lastly though is the most important Yankee, the girls spent time with their Father. They sounded like they had a ball doing it!! I'm sure it leaves an imprint too about character development. Happy New Year good sir...

  • you sir are a good father, God bless you and your family

  • Awesome video YP . you are blessed to have such wonderful scenery and a loving family !!!

  • I could not tell from the video but you mentioned having a tarp for a wind breaker. Aside from the one on the ground did you have one over you like a tent?

  • @GlitchLXIV No, I used a tarp as a barrier on the ground. Winter camping is the best for star gazing. If the temp was really low or I needed a wind block I could have set up a tarp. But there is really no need for a tent unless there are bugs, rain or extreme low temps. Snow actually makes a GREAT insulator and wind breal in exteme cold conditions.

  • Wow, awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing, made my day!! All the very Best to you and your 3 angels (the two adorable sweethearts plus o'furry one)!!

  • @Yankeeprepper I hear you brother, I wish my old broke up back worked better than it does, I would be out more than I am myself. My girls are busy being young adults now so Dad doesn't seem as cool as he once was, I'll say a prayer for whatever might get hit by the falling tree, lol. I am heading outside to move some more top soil to the back of the house for my around the deck garden today myself. Take care brother.

  • @yankeeprepper I can see why you've been busy my friend, I can't blame you for wanting to take time with your girls. They are at a great age, small enough to still need their Dad but old enough to be able to do most things on their own. Enjoy this time it sure doesn't last long. All though girls will always want their Daddy no matter what age they are:)

  • WOW, what a winter wonderland.Great kids and dog !

did you ever try anymore with the winterizing veggie garden idea ?

  • Having fun with the kids = great vid

  • @speedoverall If it's any compensation to you, I wish I had more kids.

  • awesome!!! beautiful scenery, the girls seem to have had a great time!!!

  • Very cool video Yankee looks like some real fun with your kids!

  • I really had no idea northern mn was so pretty.

  • Man, you got snow there?

    not here in the Badger

  • Just wonderful man, yer a great dad, very cool... thanks for taking us along !

  • Details on that saw, please?

  • @jbr1074 SVENSAW D0T C0M

  • Beautiful country side! i always say i love the cold but ive never experienced REAL cold weather..lol One day i'll make it up north! Take care

  • Your girls remind me of me and my 4 sisters, no whining allowed lol. I'm sure you know this but I'll say it anyway, you are a great dad and because of it your girls have a better chance than most. Thanks for sharing.

  • Almost makes me want to move to MN. My kids are a bit older and love being out in the woods. You're a good man Yankee, I'm always glad to see a dad in the woods with his kids. Wish we had that type of area in PA.

  • We have packs for our dogs too but have had trouble with quality. What do you recommend for a dog pack?

  • @armywifeprepper Try wolfpack D0t C0m and backcountry k9 d0t com.

  • @Yankeeprepper

Beautiful German Shepard brother! We got ours from a breeder that imported his parents from Germany, he weighs 132 lbs now!! Absolutely love him, almost too smart though!

In my opinion the best dogs you can get.

  • Love the saw and water filter bothe make camping in the bush so much easyer and its compact!!

  • Awesome!

  • Great vid. Bless you brother. Your two girls do more than my two step sons. I try to get them to do something other than play video games but it's like pulling teeth. One is 16 the other is 13

  • I love these vids of you and the girls with Yankee also. Good dad!!!

  • I'll be going through the Minnesotian terrain in flip flops, just to do you +1.

  • I think I'll stick to 100 deg weather camping in Texas

  • @1TexasPrepper All men are created equal. But after that, they seperate.

  • What kind of dog is that ? Looks just like mine, but I have a shepard/lab mix. Does he follow you without a leash ? Cool video

  • great video man.precious memories last a life time. love the dog too.

  • @Yankeeprepper Hey let me ask you something. Those ECWS bags seem like a great idea but they are far out of my price range. What would you recommend to sleep in in a "bug out SHTF scenario"?

  • @theduke502 I recommend you get the best you can afford and if that isn't good enough you will be cold. Nature does not care about your budget. Try looking on craigslist or surplus used. And bugging out is the dumbest plan to survive there is.

  • @Yankeeprepper I'm not too thrilled about "bugging out" myself. However, I live down the street from an Air Force Base, and several schools. I'm not concern about myself half as much as my brethren in the city. Me and another buddy have been crafting plans to exit the city in a SHTF and heading to the mountains. Out of everyone I know, I have the most amount of yard space. That doesn't make a difference once they do neighborhood sweeps though.

  • @theduke502 if you are properly layered, you can be comfortable in less expensive bags. That said, you don't want to test it when you're in the woods, try it out in the backyard or car camping. The trade off is you'll more than likely be carrying more weight.

  • @jj01a I agree. It started to warm up a little here in southern Cali. We have been experiencing quite a bit of wind lately. I'm sure the cold weather is not completely over yet. I have a few clothe bags and a few nylon/synthetic type bags. I guess I could stuff one into the other but they are in rough shape. I think I would have to replace them with new bags first. I don't think they would survive a wash, lol.

  • Great video and waterfall scenes.

  • i saw a man at the grocery store wearing flip flops today...he walked away after buying a can of beans with the flap flap flap of the flip flops

i just sighed and shook my head

  • at 2:20.....flip-flops = no good : )

  • What great fun. I see future lady survivalist ;) c

  • awesome video

  • More vids like this please : )

  • Nice! Thanks for sharing.

  • hahaha awesome!

  • Great Video!

  • Brother, you are a Man among Men for the way you teach and guide your children! We all should share these skills, knowing that if something happens to us our children have the knowledge to survive! God Bless you Yankee!

  • DUDE! Yankee is kissing your girls good night! That was awesome...

  • nice, I bet the girls had a blast. Great views too. Good stuff.

  • gorgeous area you have up there, great lessons and memories for your girls. thanks for sharing

  • Great Video I am glad you had a some father/daughter time!!!! Great Just great!

I did get a little worried when you took your socks off,, I thought you were going to walk on the hot coals!!!~~LOL

    Thanks so much for sharing!!!

  • I am stationed away from my family right now but when I get home in April I am going to take my girls camping... Thanks for video man!!!

  • Fun stuff brother!

  • Fantastic, thanks for sharing.

  • that brings back good memories and makes me miss northern Wisconsin which is basically the same landscape. cant wait to move back up there.

  • My girl friend just asked if you got lost out there! LOL don,t get lost out there. :>)

  • Winter camping. No tent. Time well spent with your children. I'm impressed.

  • Nice...Great experience...b

  • Beautiful video of frozen waterfalls... very nice.

  • @ 4:20 now throw on your flipflops and yer a happy camper hehe. Nice vid. thanks for posting ps. i have sinned today, on the way to the rifle range i got a value meal and sucked through a straw :(

  • @survivor31971 It's probably the GMO's in the junk food you are eating thats killing the man in you. My girls use straws on the way to the range too. All you need is some pony tails and the sex change will be complete. :(

  • good stuff man glad to see ur getting ur kids out backpacking. some of the best times in a my child hood was out back packing /camping or on high adventure trips with boy scouts or my family gotta love the outdoors.

  • Beautiful location! Your blessing those girls with memories, knowledge and skills they will have a life time.

  • Really Great Video and what a way to spend time with your girls. Great tip on the Hand Sanitizer

  • P.S. It has been part of my camping gear all of those years before I started prepping for my family and home. Thanks.

  • How do you like that katadyn hiker water filter?

  • @Yankeeprepper Can you show be a better look at that tree/band saw? I have something pretty darn close but it is bowed and does not pack flat like it looks like yours does. I have had it for at least 20 years now, but yours looks so much better for packing out while mine comes apart but kind of "bunches". It looks pretty cool.

  • Sweet vid. Now I feel bad for the whining I did during my deer hunting camping experience last Nov. in Savanna state forest. I'll have to man up for next year I guess. Good on ya.

  • This is cool. Thanks for the upload.

  • Where did you get the solar recharger?

  • I love your comments are having a good pair of boots. Very true.

  • Thank goodness you didn't wear flip flops! That would have been a disaster!

  • Excellent video Yank. I really enjoyed that = ) That will give the kids something to talk about in school. And some very special memories. I think Yankee even had a great time. lol. Thanks for posting this one. It is a thing of beauty. ~Wolf

  • thank you my brother from across the river for making this video.

  • Didn't have much of winter here in Oklahoma. I haven't been camping in awhile regardless. Yankee you should try Geocashing, it's fun for the kids, me and my girl friend took her little sister this year.

  • Great to see other dads that get out there and TEACH. I love taking them out away from tech. and teaching basics. Great video.
