Ionic compouns ARE NOT good conductors of electricity. Try to pass a current to some table salt and watch if something happens... How would the charges flow? At room temperatures the're almost always solids, the ions are bound in a well defined structure and the electrons are strongly attracted to the atoms (high ionizing energies).

Only when they are in liquid state that they conduct electricity.

@aaamandii As a recent High School graduate guy, I can tell you by experience that 90 percent of the students in a chemistry class, never put as much effort as it is required... some students don't even pay attention to the 'frustated teacher' and just ignore her/him and play with their so called sidekicks!!
