If you want to know about it go find "Razer Megalodon Continuous Blinking" or "Razer Megalodon sound cut off", the continuous blinking broke the megalodon completely for me. There is even a firmware update video with lots of unsatisfied comment on cultofrazer.

@kakka626 If the volume of your headset is too loud, you can hear a hissing sound, but keep it medium, so you won't hear it, then adjust the mic settings through the computer. The mic is really sensitive, so I turned my sensitivity to 0, that's fine. Keep your mic above the nostril breathing height. I got my pair on the 20th, these things are absolutely great. The mic is really clean if you set it correctly. I'd recommend it, although many people have different problems with them.
@Darkboy2525 I managed to turn them off by enabling EuP or setting in BIOS power menu. It turns off all usb ports. Your motherboard might have a simmilar setting. It leaves power to usb ports by default to allow things like mobile phones to keep charging. Hope it helps.

These things suck. Had to wait, most of the year just for Razer to fix the sound cutting out, and the mic being noisy. Even after the updated drivers the Sound card would still bug out and give a long monotone sound. Now ALMOST a year, not even a full year the Left Ear Sound Driver doesn't function anymore. Razers lack luster quality and care for their products and their supporters (Paying Customers) means I will no longer buy any Razer equipment and will not recommend it to anyone.

@Merkisador Thats how it sounds when you listen to 2.1 sound through it. When this happens switch to 2.1 mode (the megalodon says 2.0 but its really 2.1) and it will sound fine
@Merkisador The headseat can't magicaly turn a 2.1 signal into 7.1... With any 5.1 or 7.1 surround system, if you listen to a 2.1 audio file... its gonna play through all your speakers just like what is happening with your headset. What your expecting is impossible. When you listen to a 2.1 channeled audio file you switch to 2.1 mode, simple as that. A lot of 7.1 headsets don't have that option and you will always get the shitty echo.
@Fluxzone90 it's virtual 7.1 it's not real 7.1 like some of the new headphones are comming out with, with 7 actual physicall speakers inside them i think Triton or something did it with 5.1

I know some games still only have 5.1 but most future games should have 7.1 i think...

Razer's in the works of releasing from what I've read seems to be a new firmware update! Check out their website, sucks for people that just got it and want to update it though..... Here's to hoping that it take's care of that massive reverb in some games :)

Thank you for your confirmation. Our engineers have confirmed that the 2.0 and the 7.1 mode is independent from the audio being displayed on the control pod. The different speakers will show the audio input currently played by the application but if you select 2.0, Only the front 2 speakers will play. When you switch via Maelstrom to 7.1, the algorithm used is different and 7.1 audio will be played.
@ashrocks87 no I haven't had a reply yet. I literally contacted them yesterday. Lol. They said they'll take that question to the higher ups. Overall like I said, my Megalodon performs very well and strangely enough outputs surround sound in 2.0 mode! Make sure you toggle your in-game settings to 5.1 or 7.1 let me know if that helps.
yes that's what i did.. set the hidden "auto speakers(or something lol)" feature on and then it plays 7.1 without the maelstrom card.
im considering selling them.. damn i shouldnt have used them after getting them replaced..
now i put it back into the box and just using a senns 438.. much clearer just without the mic.
next month im buying audio technica ath-m50..the best p2p ratio headset. while not exclusively for gaming, sound is epic(by reviews) hopefully the same with gaming
that's ok, excellent with the 7.1 sound. but if you wanna play 2.0 sound, like music movies or in games that dont support 7.1, it's going to sound echoey like the megs. I suggest you try them first if available.

@ashrocks87 you do know there is a firmware update for the Megos right? 2.12 head to their site > Support > Downloads > Aduio > Megos.. of course I'm just assuming you've not applied this update.. I've yet to buy these my self but I hear the update fixes most problems.. they said the maelstrom mode was good with games? well maybe they're playing different games(i play cod BO and other fps games and starcraft 2). codBO supports 7.1 but when i put megalodon to 7.1, sounds like an aquarium.. yeah and also senns pc350 has excellent soundstage.. which means it's like 7.1

if you wanna save your money(from becoming a waste), then all you have to do is buy the Sennheiser pc 350(or with the asus soundcard combo) or the Corsair Hs1 headset.. they sound better(from most forums and also in youtube and any other gaming sites.

@TraNWhiZ get it! if you can get it cheap (i got it for nearly half the insane RRP of AU$300 on ebay) it's the best investment you can make if you're in the market for a good quality gaming headset. razer's products sure do deliver, they always have this premium prestige feel to them, while still being (relatively) competitively priced. i'd look around online for cheaper deals though, don't buy direct from their website if you can help it...unless of course you have the cash to burn of course..
@TraNWhiZ well it's 'virtual' because it's kinda hard to cram 7 speakers and 1 subwoofer into a pair of headphones...
but the speakers are designed to put sounds in certain 'places' around your ear, so it actually works perfectly like a real surround sound system (watch that famous virtual haircut youtube vid) the software simulates it perfectly
The price was worth it to me considering the sound quality of the hardware + i shopped around. Try them out at a store if you can, see if it moves you.
@TraNWhiZ, any headset is goin to have "virtual 7.1" (for now) the only way you can get true 7.1 surround is if you have 7 speakers and 1 subwoofer, thats the only true 7.1, so if you are looking for true 7.1 surround sound, have fun waiting for a few years just for a headset that will cost at least double the price, unless you have found a headset that is true 7.1, if you have let me know =)
@TraNWhiZ, but 5.1 wouldn't cover all angles in games, this 7.1 headset in particular does cover all angles, if you watch ChillaFrilla video about it, im very sure he says this.
@HunterOfPies Im not sure, if you are considering spending this much money on a headset for the xbox i would recomend turtle beach tritons or astro's they are possibly the best headsets for consoles right now.

I've had many issues with Razer in the past but I'm a devoted Razer fan. Bought the Megalodon yesterday and love it so far. The microphone had a scratchy noise but I fixed it by simply adjusting the microphone and downloading the firmware.

I'm sad to say that i just returned this headset and went back to Logitech G35. The sound was good and all in Megalodon, but I'm not paying double the price for a half-broken mic (yes i tried guides & updates). So if you're not using the mic, i can recommend this, if you are, get a seperate mic or G35

if you dont need a mic then i suggest getting the ath-m50, but if you need one, then pc 350 would be best..
but if im you i'd do my own research, not everyone likes a particular color or design, etc.
i havent tried the pc 350 yet but based on reviews its cool.
Hey a corsair HS1 had good reviews, you might wanna take a look at that.
this is all based on my opinion, so dont follow everything i say. Just dont buy the Megs if you dont wanna waste money.

@ashrocks87 you do know there is a firmware update for the Megos right? 2.12 head to their site > Support > Downloads > Aduio > Megos.. of course I'm just assuming you've not applied this update.. I've yet to buy these my self but I hear the update fixes most problems.. I'm considering pick'n one of these up.. only hestiation is... only place I can get them won't take em back if I don't like them... they'll exchange/replace it with the same thing.. but won't do refunds.

sorry. kind sir, but unfortunately, YES, i did apply the update. Unfortunately, it still sounds like an aquarium.
Aaaand i got a third replacement this time(yes, third!) because the led lights on the cups doesnt work after a while of usage.. and i wont be granted a 4th time of replacement..
the firmware doesnt fix it.

I mean not everyone will hear the surround sound right cuz everyone hears things different, I got three friends with these things and they all swear by em an stuff.. but thanks for the info.. defiantly gives me something to think about as the place I'd get em from wouldn't give me my money back if I was to try an return them. they have a bs policy that for hygiene reasons they won't accept returns on headsets.

they said the maelstrom mode was good with games? well maybe they're playing different games(i play cod BO and other fps games and starcraft 2). codBO supports 7.1 but when i put megalodon to 7.1, sounds like an aquarium.. yeah and also senns pc350 has excellent soundstage.. which means it's like 7.1

all of them said some games sounded better in 2.0 mode even if the game supported 7.1/5.1 sound.
it's really hit an miss as everyone hears things diffrent.. if any of the bugers lived anywhere near me I'd try the dam things out first but nun do. XD.

yes they sound better in 2.0 mode(but if you use the feature on the video, it allows 7.1 on 2.0 mode).
yes it works good on L4D/2 but on Cod:bo it sounds fake when using the maelstrom 7.1.
i should have not bought this(it's because of the hype)
yeah if i were you i wouldnt buy it. 120+ bucks isnt worth taking the risks this headset offers(like crappy 7.1 sound on most games)

@ashrocks87 No, that's because I play on Xbox 360. But although the Megalodon may not be perfect, it's still worth it's money. I haven't ever experienced such clear, and pristine sound ever.

yeah man good thing it was new when it came out of warranty(fourth time on warranty because the led lights on the cups kept dying..), yeah, brand fking new!
unfortunately i was tempted to try it out, and so i did, so no more new megs for me.. gonna sell it now for 3/4th of the price.. shame
and also it's surprising how corsair hs1's reviews were good.. i mean, how the fck did a ram,cooler and powersupply maker suddenly come out with a headset then bam! 9/10 scores on reviews.

if you wanna save your money(from becoming a waste), then all you have to do is buy the Sennheiser pc 350(or with the asus soundcard combo) or the Corsair Hs1 headset.. they sound better(from most forums and also in youtube and any other gaming sites.
I hope i helped you. i wanna keep people from making a bad mistake by buying this thing.. sadly i cant sell mine.. but i will be buying a Sennheiser pc 350 or an AT ath-m50 on feb.. my birthday ftw!

@TraNWhiZ get it! if you can get it cheap (i got it for nearly half the insane RRP of AU$300 on ebay) it's the best investment you can make if you're in the market for a good quality gaming headset. razer's products sure do deliver, they always have this premium prestige feel to them, while still being (relatively) competitively priced. i'd look around online for cheaper deals though, don't buy direct from their website if you can help it...unless of course you have the cash to burn of course..

@TraNWhiZ well it's 'virtual' because it's kinda hard to cram 7 speakers and 1 subwoofer into a pair of headphones...
but the speakers are designed to put sounds in certain 'places' around your ear, so it actually works perfectly like a real surround sound system (watch that famous virtual haircut youtube vid) the software simulates it perfectly
The price was worth it to me considering the sound quality of the hardware + i shopped around. Try them out at a store if you can, see if it moves you.

@TraNWhiZ, any headset is goin to have "virtual 7.1" (for now) the only way you can get true 7.1 surround is if you have 7 speakers and 1 subwoofer, thats the only true 7.1, so if you are looking for true 7.1 surround sound, have fun waiting for a few years just for a headset that will cost at least double the price, unless you have found a headset that is true 7.1, if you have let me know =)

@m09c14 non-virtual 7.1 would have some difference between front and rear.
The virtual stuff is just matrix simulation, doesn't really help for gaming, I had a virtual surround 5.1 headset, I only used stereo mode.

I've had many issues with Razer in the past but I'm a devoted Razer fan. Bought the Megalodon yesterday and love it so far. The microphone had a scratchy noise but I fixed it by simply adjusting the microphone and downloading the firmware.

I'm sad to say that i just returned this headset and went back to Logitech G35. The sound was good and all in Megalodon, but I'm not paying double the price for a half-broken mic (yes i tried guides & updates). So if you're not using the mic, i can recommend this, if you are, get a seperate mic or G35
