  • nice work :)

  • @vivoprunus9966 Thank you.

  • This is what happens to my sense of time when I'm drawing. When I finally look up at a clock, three hours have gone by.

    lol.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 It's how I always forget to eat, haha.

  • @UnbornChild Lol. Well, I guess art helps you lose weight.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 It keeps me in shape!

  • @UnbornChild Excuse me, I need to go exercise now.

    Now where's that pen...

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Ha! Get that pencil mileage.

  • @UnbornChild "It's super effective!"

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 It shows!

  • @UnbornChild It really does, although I can't really show it off until next month.

I kinda gave up DA for Lent.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Next month? Were you on DeviantArt?

  • @UnbornChild Yep. I commented on one of your works. It's how I found you. I left a comment on one of your Invitation videos that got a DD. It's how I found you here.

    I'm Professortorcoolguy on DA.

I'm dreading Easter, when I get back on...there's going to be over 9,000 messages in my inbox...on the day I left, I sorted through over 170 messages before that...it won't be pretty when I get back on.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Oh that's right! I was wondering how we crossed paths. Why did you leave? and when did you? Curious.

  • @UnbornChild Well, I technically didn't "leave", I'm just not logging on or viewing the site. I haven't been there since Ash Wednesday a few weeks ago. I'll be back on after Easter.

And I said I gave up DA for Lent. It's a symbolic Christian holiday in which you sacrifice something for forty days.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1

Oh I understand now. I didn't know what you meant by "DA for Lent". I wasn't familiar with it. Cool then, I'll see you on there soon.

  • @UnbornChild I'll be there. But for now...Youtube will have to do.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 I hope you keep visiting in the future, anyway :)

  • @UnbornChild I will be. I like that community, even fi it is damn hard to find meaningful input for what I do. I often end up being my own critic.

What I hate is blind fandom. I went to DA to get input and meaningful dialogue, not compliments.

Not that I have an overabundance...but I like it when people tell me what they don't like or what I did wrong, even if I already know each of my mistakes.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 It's always hard to find anything if you're in the minority, but that's not to say it's not out there. I agree, most of the feedback on MOST internet sites will always be short compliments, "cool" "well done". I always learn from negative feedback and I always welcome it. You learn nothing from compliments..

  • @UnbornChild I know...and more than a few of my watchers give me nothing but compliments, and on of them came off as a rabid fangirl, which is almost embarrassing given my underground status.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Hahaha!! That cracked me up. Really? That's cool though, great even. But still, you need your critical feedback.

  • @UnbornChild I never understood rabid fandom. I can like something and be "crazy" about it, but it's not like I'm going to shower them with compliments and faves on EVERYTHING they put out there, much less carry on a conversation about how awesome they are.

...which now that I think about it, constitutes one quarter of my conversations. Maybe I'll get a DD while I'm gone.

Some of my works have been put in the DD lottery. More than once, I might add.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 It took me 7 years to get a DD and I got it on a medium I never submitted in until the last year. And I also, like you, got mostly positive (unhelpful) feedback through out.

How do you know when/if your works are nominated for a DD? Do they notify you?

  • @UnbornChild The way I see it, if I get a flood of messages and faves one day without explanation, that means my deviation has been featured.

Both times I found out about my potential DD because certain members have a favorites folder that is used as a storage for potential DD's, and I guess they get certain people to choose. One folder was titled "Daily Deviation Lottery". The day after, my deviation was removed from that folder.

...But if it works like lottery, I am disappointed.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 That doesn't necessarily mean your stuff has been featured in a DD, or else you'd seriously know about it directly and your work would have a DD stamp on it. It can be a number of reasons though, like groups featuring your work or on collections. I've never heard of DD lottery though..

  • @UnbornChild Well, that's what happened with mine. It was probably an admin experiment that didn't go anywhere. Whatever it was I'm still hoping that it's what I think it was.

...otherwise I am a blundering fool.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Haha. I got a lot of negative comments on my DD (the video you found me through) and a lot of great feedback. The negativity, and even though I welcome it, was mostly "not worthy of a DD" or "I just wasted my time" etc. It was interesting, to say the least, the extreme opposite of the comments I was getting.

  • @UnbornChild Comments are mostly a matter of opinion. The internet is full of people with a flamboyant opinion.

While some people be trollin, others are noobs who can't tell when to shut up or tone it down...others are just offensive because that's who they are. In any case, I don't really mind any of the above. They're good entertainment.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Most seen on YouTube, people who talk constant crap and if you visit their profile, they have nothing there. I just don't get it - why would you look up something you DON'T like? Losers of all kind swarm up the internet. But yeah, I'm like you, I'm always entertained and HEY, at least people are watching, right?

  • @UnbornChild I never understood that either. Very few times have I ever thumbed down a video. Often I just find it mediocre and leave without saying something. It's very rare to find something truly offensive.

Whenever I hear of people swarming on the internet I always think of Anonymous...

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Yeah exactly. But some people actually seek out videos *just* to talk smack. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself, I guess ??

  • @UnbornChild Meh. It's their life. If they want to waste it by attempting to waste other peoples' times, that's their problem. I used to fall victim to that kind of stuff, but after lurking around I've learned how to recognize that kind of stuff. In any case it's still funny. To quote a demotivational poster "Sometimes I feel like Youtube is just Motifake with moving pictures".

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Definitely. But as I said, at least you're getting views. And one negative talker leads to other viewers, ultimately, maximum exposure. Great art needs that in a world where crap, garbage and ridiculous nonsense gets all the attention.

  • @UnbornChild All for teh views, isn't it? I'd prefer to have an audience with one producer interested in my work than ten thousand dysfunctional internet mooks.

I'm one of those people who likes to be choosy about their audience. Sure, people with assloads of views get paid with Youtube contracts, but beyond that, they only just barely get two million views. Movies draw a much larger crowd, as does physical media like comic books and manga. As such, that's who I prefer to see my work.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Well, no, but you need to have an audience, however small or large. Art does not exist in a vacuum. I agree with you, but even still, an audience full of ten thousand dysfunctional internet mooks i still an audience. Most of my work appeals to a smaller based audience anyway, so I'm pretty picky too. For example my film "Paper Thin Reality", is definitely NOT for general audiences.

  • @UnbornChild That's sort of why I never understood people who created exceptional studio quality art in high school and insisted on keeping their sketch books to themselves. I let people see mine regardless of who it is.

It can get annoying when art reaches the wrong crowd, though...not once has anyone stopped telling me that I kinda draw boobs too big. It's not fanservice...it's not author appeal...that's just how I envision the characters.

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 Yeah I remember those kids "Don't look through my sketchbook!!" and I open and find they're pretty damn good. Duuuuude, I always get "You love big asses huh?" when people look through my sketchbooks. It's ALWAYS pointed out. So what? It's not uncommon. My gay artist friend paints penises all the time and people never say anything and love it. Oh, but a straight-male figure drawing with big behinds is a shock. Meh.

  • @UnbornChild Actually, that was one of the first comments I ever received on my profile. lol. It started out with big butts and then moved a bit more north.

I should just draw my biggest character naked and see what happens when I show it to people. She has a ridiculously unrealistic rack that I'm sure surpasses a G-cup...

For that matter...another one of my friends draws loli, and they don't receive nearly as much grief as I do.

    What's up with that?

  • @Professortorcoolguy1 What's "loli"? Yeah I've seen gigantic breasts that drag to the ground on sites like dA, and people eat it up. But on Facebook when I'll post my sketchbook pages I get "they just HAD to have big butts, huh?" Um, so what? How is that in any way new or shocking, lol? People are....indecisive.
