  • What is the name of the live tour ?

  • @RDrumming

    Death Cult Campaign

  • With all the respect to Nick Barker, the guy that made the video was looking so funny creepeng here and there and under the drum chair :)) Just imagine Nick's face finding the guy's head stretching up from under his chair! :D

But... stop laughing, the video is great!

  • his hairy calves are metal enough, I must say

  • Uncle Fester?

  • Didn't know that "VERY RARE" stuff were on officials DVD XD.

  • I stood next this guy at a Testament concert watching the support

band when he was drumming for Testament that night.I was way

to scared to say to hello,it was like standing next to 'METAL ROYALTY'.

  • Barker seems to have blended some of the most influential drummers like Neil Peart, Dave Lombardo and fused it with some of his own approach.

His best work may yet be ahead of him, I hope to seem him make a statement soon !!! Barker RULES.

  • Adrian is more thrash style and puts passion in his drumming. While Nick Barker on the other hand is more mechanical and artificial. Don't get me wrong Nick was the second best in COF, but I like Adrian better.

  • Second to Adrian? No way man... I understand the "mechanical" comment, but that is a tendency most drummers gain with time - the search for perfection often does that. But there's no comparison between Barker's "Cradle years" and "post-Cradle years". Listen carefully to Cradles work between 94 and 96, and you'll see there's a huge amount of passion in his drumming. Huge.

  • EL MEJOR BATERISTA DEL MUNDO YEAH Y VIVA DURANGO MEXICO

  • Oh my god that was so good my dick just exploded

  • The song is called Dimmu Borgir - Over Bleknede Blåner Til Dommedag

    ;)

  • @Opop0o1 No it's not, this is the last song on the Stormblåst album, called "Guds fortapelse - Åpenbaring av dommedag".

  • I love the fills he does, fuckin awesome and stylish, i need to learn a few

  • The DRUM-GOD. People, you can even hear how good he was with Monolith, almost 20 years ago.. The man f*cking ruled back then! Afterwards... Midas touch... the man turned everything into gold. Cradle of Filth: the most creative drum work ever! Cradle went down after barker left... And I'm not even saying Erlandsson was bad... But this guy had an unique style, dynamic and creative...and fast...then with dimmu borgir, even faster. I'd give up my left nut to have this dude recordin ONE demo with me

  • @Jaime050483 Man, Cradle didn't go down.

  • @Jaime050483

His work on Dusk was immense

    Then came Cruelty

Nick is my man on drums

  • @TheDgdsn what about Principal of evil made flesh and the V empire EP? thats was great to

  • @Matefeedkillreknot

Not a huge fan of Vempire, Principal slipped my mind, apologys for that one

  • check out my band bloodreign cuntbag.. no offense to ya im a barker fan to

  • name of the song please ??

  • @papachingon i think stormblast

  • kollias is better you retard jesusdaMNIT UTG DTU IFUTYR ASSHEOL YEA

  • kollias is better you retard jesusdaMNIT UTG DTU IFUTYR ASSHEOL

  • @jvwelder28 You're talking to me? -_________- SMFH

  • this song it's amazing GUD'S FORTAPELSE - ÅPENBARING AV DOMMEDAG , the last song of the dimmu borgir's Stormblåst.........hail nick barker

  • Stormblåst live, eh? Fantastic.

  • rar footage? i mean the whole world can click on this vid? Oo

  • @Nebelkrieg No einstein -___- Its a rare video of him drumming since there are barely any vids of him playing.

  • Nick BArker is the SHIT :D very friendly. I have met him 2 times. One in Sweden 2004 and in Norway with Gorgoroth 2008. :D

  • man he really hits that snare pretty light! must ave a trigger on that too

  • I can't believe they actually played this song live.

  • Kinda lazy drummer. Either that or he's too good for Dimmu.

  • im guessing he plays with triggers because he hardly moves his feet to double bass play

  • nice shoes ahah

  • Short board axis? Hm.

  • @FractureTheBand I guess with his leg mass, you really don't need to use more than a toe eh?

  • @FractureTheBand it is kinda weird isnt it?

  • kien dice k por ser gordo no se puede tocar rapido jaja

  • wat song is this?

  • @dangleesac102 "Gud's Fortapelse - Åpenbaring Av Dommedag". It's from Stömblast Album

  • ele toca pouco hahaahaha.... nem!

  • He looks so content! Like he's just hanging out!

  • My fingers are crossed that he doesn't have a heart attack............

  • Nicholas Barker is the best! hellhammer is shit!

  • @PaganWinter666 Hellhammer is beast wat r u talking about

  • @PaganWinter666 yeah

  • Haha....he blasts like a little girl... All hail the trigger!

  • @Manfrio those 'blasts' that start at 8 and 44 seconds in are supposed to be like that. The snare hits are supposed to be ghost notes. Listen to the album version of this song... that is how it is played.

  • @Manfrio well.... then he plays that part like a little girl...that fat bastard...hahaha

  • @Manfrio hey man if drums were supposed to be easy all bands would recruit a computer... luckily metal is one of the only genres left where talent is respected. i don't think you're trolling so i'll educate you. if he was blasting without a trigger it would be impossible to hear. and, since he has the ability to blast without a trigger, it is obvious that he's trying his best to make it sound like a ghost note.

  • @MojoRisin2592 You are right...Nick Barker and his ghost note blast....

  • whos the drummer in the music vid for gateways?

  • @theAXELnater274 Daray, also drummer of Vader and Vesania.

  • @ryder187mac so, hes daray isnt the drummer for dimmu

  • @theAXELnater274 ... Can you read my comment? Daray is the current drummer of Dimmu, he's in the Gateways video, he's also the drummer of Vader and Vesania.

  • @ryder187mac so how is he the current drummer for dimmu nd also vader nd vesania

  • @theAXELnater274 Sorry, my knowledge was outdated, he's not Vader's drummer anymore. I don't get the big deal with a drummer playing in more than one band, a band can't constantly stay on tour and the drummer may choose to record or tour wiht someone else during breaks, it's all dependant on the schedule. And even though Daray doesn't play with Vader anymore, apparently he's the drummer of the bands Hunter and Black River... so, there ya go.

In any case, the drummer in the Gateways vid is Daray

  • The Master!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellent drummer

  • What song is this? It's amazing.

  • he looks bored in the first 30 seconds

  • Dont try even to find excuses, the fact is that this guy is one of the best drummers of all time :)

  • That little hihat choke with the heel is just proof he's got that shit under total controll. Awesome drummer!

  • Axis pedals!!!!! That explains his speed.

  • @Doctorsolo94 he's actually playing trick now

  • @Doctorsolo94 Nope, he has technique. Very light hits+triggers help as well. Not just axis. You pick up axis pedals it doesn't instantly make you a god.

  • Awwww thats so cool wish i was playin in that band!! Dimmu rules. nick rules!!

  • THE PERFECT DRUMMER FOR DIMMU!

  • I have that shirt :B

  • XTXcalVinXTX:

is it just me or does it look like his kicks have zero power?

    andrynor

@XTXcalVinXTX thats the beauty of using triggers

when youre playing extreme metal and such fast doublepase pattern its not possible to play FAST and LOUD

  • great, the best, dimmu missed

  • Man it looks like he's just chilling there. Nice..

  • Hes amazing...Wow intense

  • drumming is not about hitting the drum as hard as you can. tension free, loose and being fluid is what makes a great drummer. nick is a great example. Triggers are not a crutch. if you notice the axis longbaords pedals, w/ sonic hammers (aka flat head beaters) these pedals have high tension springs and promote spreed, which does not harm the head as much as a heavier round mallet beater, the flat head is lighter/easier to use. Most of the best death/black/extreme metal drummers use them...

  • is it just me or does it look like his kicks have zero power?

  • @XTXcalVinXTX thats the beauty of using triggers

  • @andrynor

    replace beauty with gayness =)

  • @XTXcalVinXTX riight, because clearly speed and precision reeks of homosexuality

  • @XTXcalVinXTX its not just you

  • He reminds me of Gene Hoglan. Not just because he is fat.. or has great foot technique. But because umm.... He is fat and has great foot technique.

  • @aligatorsandwitch72

But Gene is like 15644554231 times better =)

  • What Nick Barker has that is impossible to teach is the *feel* for the drumkit, his own dynamic touch and still gets to be very creative at 250+ bpm. This is what 99% of other pro drummers lack.

Amazing - and he's a very down to earth guy too.

  • @theseventhammer flo mounier can beat this guy any time!

  • @MunkyCZ beat how? In a fist fight? - just kidding, flo m. is a fantastic drummer, but his feel for the drum kit is his own, he doesn't *sound* like Barker. I like both of their drumming styles.

  • what is that song please?

  • @vietnamitainfernal STormblåst ffs!!

  • Axis - speed +50

  • yeah nick barker's the best and laziest drummer i've ever seen. must be why he's still so fat!!

  • Aside from Hellhammer... Nick Barker was the best drummer DB ever had!

  • @Arcturus420 Nicholas Barker was by far the best drummer Dimmu Borgir ever had

  • Man, he's freakin perfect :D

  • silenoz needs to stop sacking everone from his band. his im god attitude will be the death of dimmu borgir!

  • @thispagesux They kicked Nick out because he wasn't from Norway and that he is English. Way to go Silenoz. Hellhammer is sooo much better.......with his quad bass pedal and all. (Sarcasm)

  • @jdmimport13 nick has a better sound than hell hammer on the records anyway this video sounds pretty bad!

  • @jdmimport13 Does hellhammer seriously use a quad double-kick? if so hes a fucking cheater

  • @GuidoMetallo what the hell r quad double kicks

  • @roughriderfan6sic6 They are cheap ass single foot double kicks

  • @GuidoMetallo haha o thats fucked up thanks dude

  • @GuidoMetallo no he uses axis single pedals just like the ones nick is using in this video.

For all of those arguing about what pedals nick is using:

    1: grow up

2: Pause the video at 1:24 you can read the axis logo on the left pedal

  • @GuidoMetallo No XD he uses triggers, there's no such thing as a quad pedal, and if there was you still only have 2 legs -_-

  • @Dimdez Maybe they are custom made, but there is definitely quad single foot double kicks I have seen them, its so it sounds twice the sound of what you are actually playing.

and for anybody that thinks im talking about nick Barker you obviously havent read any of the previous comments

  • @GuidoMetallo Yeah but they don't have any power and look retarded, and regardless the sound would be way off with them, but once you go so fast it would be just a line of sound and Hellhammer can almost do that with 2 bass drums, listen to Anti on the latest Mayhem album and I've seen him live, it's just triggers, they don't make you go faster but every hit counts weather or not you hit it super hard or just lightly tap it, it'll still make the same sound with triggers

  • @Dimdez Ok haha thanks for clearing that up.

  • drum ignorance.stupid as fuck.

  • He is good technically, but he has no sound, specially in blast-beats...

  • @AleDrums92 Well the sound in this video obviously doesn't help but I have seen them live in a smaller club with great sound and his drumming was on point.

  • @AleDrums92 You don't know nothing but shit!

  • nasty, always been one of my favorite drummers

  • its not about speed.. its about technique and melody... look at this guy.. there are diffrent tempos and key changes and hes able to fit right in with accuracy .. effortlessly.. i understand u dont like black metal.. but its a just a genre of music.. u dont have to like it.. but appreciate art... at least he doesnt do beats on a drum pad and calls himself a musician....

  • song that slow looks so piece of cake to him :)

  • song?

  • If he didn't have triggers, you would never hear his bass work XD he's like just touching the beater against the bass

  • @Dimdez i agree, wut a light tapper, derek roddy would show him a thing or two about double bass lol

  • want that ride! well, both of them, actually...

  • you know there was a time when this guy was a great drummer... and then george kollias was born!

  • @Demonlord468 George kollias? George is famous for doing his swivel technique and because he's fast, Not that Im saying he's bad, But thats it.... Nick Barker... Dude, His drumming is horrificly complicated! He plays the cymbals like if he was playing piano, George is just fast. Im sorry but I think Nick barker could beat george in a second :/

  • @6sic666666 i disagree and and agree. Judging who's the best is near to impossible, to many factors. But in my personal oppinion barker is better at making cymbal arrangements and beeing creative, while george is just ultra speed. judging what's most valid is impossible.

  • @nonhasthisusername Thats what I just said silly -_____- lol Of course non could be the best, Theres different styles.... IMO barker is much more creative... Kollias is good, VERY good, But he's.... not my type of drummer... Plus if you want to see ultra speed... Hear idk.... Ummm the Whole Puritical Album..... But idk, its all personal preferences!

  • remeber those drummers usually have a lots of gigs and the set list is very long...so i realli don´t see why the have to hit the drum soooo hard!...is better, in their case, to take it easy so they can play the whole set confortable..

  • what song is this?

  • @enmity666 Guds Fortapelse

  • hugely triggered but still really cool.

  • your right drumming isnt about beating the shit out of everything, there is a time and a place for everything, of course if you were playing jazz or something you wouldnt necessarily have to hit the bass drum that hard..or maybe you would it all depends...but this is a video of a metal band, and a brutal one at that..no your not always expected to hit it hard but here you are, he abuses the use of his mics

  • @1234LED LOL DIMMU BORGIR IS BRUTAL?. shut the fuck up

  • @XDisintegrationX what does brutal mean to you in this context? I'm just wondering because obviously it has deeply offended you and has threatened you to fall of your heavy metal pedestal, so please enlighten me with the reasoning behind your anguish

  • @XDisintegrationX i agree! an anyone who says bad things about nick ovo needs to actually find stuff out about people before they open there mouth! hes fuckin brutal. also check out Volcanicore! new band that will hit the nation this year! there pretty fuckin awesome! google Volcanicore!

  • @jondavisforeva. i heard them, just another mediocre myspace band. i dont think they will be taking the metal world by storm!

  • is the best drummer, and for play metal don't need play strong this is shit, the triggers do it the vol, so stupid people

  • R.I.P. Stormblast era Dimmu Borgir. We appreciators of true-to-the-form black metal will miss you. I would have definitely gone to see them play their old material. Last time I saw them they were promoting Death Cult Armageddon.

  • guys->you are just ridiculous

you will never reach his niveau

  • @styrianchris apprend a parler anglais...

  • dude..... drummings is not about hitting every instrument as loud as you can....!

  • @b82b84b6b7 maybe drumming isnt, but rocking is!

  • @b82b84b6b7

That's not the point, even though modern drummers try to play with a fine technique to play with less effort... this video is the reason why people get suspicious about triggers. Barker doesn't seem to put any effort at all to play tight double bass! This is one of the most sloppiest performances I've seen of professional extreme double bass. I think Barker used to play with much more intensity, but now I really don't know.

  • @b82b84b6b7 You obviously don´t play drums, right?

  • But he does a pretty good job!

  • @b82b84b6b7 dude which song is this??

  • @vagBehemoth Guds Fortapelse - Åpenbaring Av Dommedag

  • @b82b84b6b7 except for this style of music, Dimmu is all about hitting as hard as you can and fast

  • @b82b84b6b7 It IS about hitting hard enough to make an audible sound. but in superfast metal it is very hard to hit hard enough on the double bass. that is why they use triggers

  • oh, and he's off to Brazil next week, jammy bugger!!

  • He's doing some drumming in the AC/DC tribute band, Sin City, among other things. He's still bloody loud too!! I have to stand next to him when we rehearse, my ears are still ringing haha

  • what happened to nick??? is he playing with any band right now?

  • @othark5 - he need to paid the bills

  • last i saw of him was boa 2009 he sessioned for anathema cause there drummer was ill. think he is just sessioning and having some time off

  • Nick rocks. Speed, creativity and accuracy. Plus, he uses the best cymbals in the world :)

  • He only triggers his snare. I read from somewhere, that he triggers his bass when he goes live, but normally doesn't. But the snare part, I know for sure.

  • ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

  • Very difficult to achieve dynamics from triggers, if your going for maximum intensity all the way they will do the job. But people do enjoy watching and hearing musicians sweat and bleed for their music (keeping it real), although it is easier said than done if your having to deliver the goods every night - no matter how old or young you are high intensity drumming will dramaticly fatigue the fittest of people. Why do think drummers always looked fucked?

  • ALL HAIL THE WALRUS

  • This song is Guds Fortapelse, and yet I can find no other videos on youtube where Dimmu is playing this song live- does anyone have a version of this with the whole band included or something? I'd love to see this song played by them; this is just not complete with only Nick.

Furthermore, the way I see it, triggers are just amplifiers- So if every other musician on the stage is using them, why can't the drummer?

  • @Rednasyl28

He makes the song sound even better than what's on the album!

  • He and Hellhammer are goddamn perfect! I didn't know Nick plays barefoot :P

  • hes such a light tapper, if he wasnt uring triggs he would have amateur feet, hes gettign no power, a real drummer is george kollias, crazy speed with good power

  • How do you think Kollias would sound live without triggers? Like any other metal drummer that use double kick drumming, they'd get exhausted if they were to hit hard all the time. And it's like Rednasyl28 says "triggers are just amplifiers- So if every other musician on the stage is using them, why can't the drummer?".

    Best damn statement ever.

  • @renshammar

I've seen vids with Kollias and Roddy untrigged, and believe me, they've got powerful strokes as hell, even at higher tempos. I've also seen a clinic with Kollias where he explains that he tries to play with maksimum powah all the time because he doesn't want to "cheat" by tapping and letting the triggers do the job.

So, to sum up, Kollias would sound quite good live with just miced drums. The triggers are so that the sound of the bassdrum projects better to keep everything tight.

  • @JonasOfSweden

Well, George Kollias does actually play a mic'd set, apart from his kicks. They're triggered due to his tempos messing up the acoustic kick sound. And that's a compliment for sure!

  • Tack för infon, det visste jag faktiskt inte ;O

  • yeah but kollias has his pedals on their tightest setting possible. so he must play damn fast. however i really couldnt care, its not like triggers are a drum machine, you still got to play the beat and nick barker is one of the most creative drummers in metal. i mean just listen to that damn beat in hybrid stigmata on the hi hats. damn! so i wish people would stop bitching. hes an awesome drummer.
