  • My friend: WOW!! those are cool!! but how would you know when they are dead??

me: They would float right side up : ]

  • lol when they die to they turn right way up?

  • what do you feed him??????????????

  • what do you feed the upsidown catfish??

  • and the good thing is, When their dead, They look alive!

  • HAHAH!

  • lol my upside down carfishes are a little brownish is this normal.

  • i have a pretty big eupterus and he swims upside down at the surface and i pour food in his mouth.

  • Do they stay in the upper levels of the tank?? and do they feed on flakes and pellets??

  • @LeoMessi42 No they need blood worms, or shrimp , upside downs are not fav, too the flake food

  • I had to search for ages to find one of these fish localy, but worth it. It's like no other fish they get on fine with my two zamora catfish, no hassle over territory.

  • imagine spending all your life upside down :D

  • I have a feather fin up side down catfish and a, i think its called a asian up side down catfish but there both in a 80 gallon and or the size of ur hand, all post a video wwhen i make one i hade a account with my fish on it but i forgt it so i had no chose but to make a new one

  • I have 2 of these , and I have had them for 11 years now ...they are very peacfeull , but they 'bicker' between themselves a lot , its very funny to watch , and no real harm is ever done

  • Cool fish. I'm setting up a Cichlid tank myself in the next few weeks.

  • mine have been alive for 3 years

  • It reminds me of my late upside-down catfish, I had it for about 10-15 years, I was sad when it died.

  • sooo... when they die do they die right side up? LoL!

  • @ashleababy01 - They are a very cool fish

  • @MadDuff01 lOl i KNO : )

  • Lots of fun. i named mine Jesus, because he had ick and beat it without treatment.. lived 5 years..they're a hearty fish..well worth the cA$h

  • @ashleababy01 No there are not made like that, its a instinct, they swim upside down 90% of the time, lol

  • @ashleababy01 no thats how they swim they look like african feather fin cat fish but not when larger they do

  • i have a question i have a range of tropical fish and have 2 pretty big upside down catfish..i heard they are not aggressive at all but for some strange reason one keeps biting the part before the tail of my bronze corydora and you can see where its bit it turned a bit white and fleshy..any idea why? they been in there for months and ive never seen a problem until recent.

  • @xxboweezyda2ndxx - I dont think your fish is a true upside down catfish, there are a few Synodontis catfish sold under the name upside down catfish but it is the nigriventris that is the true fish and is very peaceful, have a look at Synodontis nigrita or Mystus Leucophasis and see if either of these match your fish.

  • @MadDuff01 after looking into it i do believe it is synodontis nigrita otherwise knows as the ''lace catfish''? nearly 4 inches in length now and growing rapidly both of em.

  • @MadDuff01 do they naturaly have white spots on them cause i wanna buy one and i know what ich look like but the lady in the store said they naturaly have spots but the thing about there spots is there not bulding out like ich there more like inside the skin but idk they form like 3 line but there are no spots at the fins so is that natural

  • @cleerin1 idk if it is or not... My Cory's have that too o.o they seem just fine tho

  • @xxboweezyda2ndxx they are very aggressive fish, i dont know who told you that, but the most dominate is the school leader, and mostly males are aggresive, specially around mating time, or if there just plain ol mean

  • How about putting an episode of ANIMAL PLANET'S THE MOST EXTREME?

  • I have 2 of these in my tank. A really small one that hardly ever comes out of his hiding place, and a really big one that is currently attacking and eating the fins off my gourami :(

  • The bigger one has gotten a massive belly over the past week. Do you think its because she is possibly pregnant? She never actually attacked any other fish before just chased them. Also the bigger one is a lot darker (reading below i noticed you said it may not be a true nigriventris) The smaller one looks exactly like these you have here. Would they still breed?

  • Its highly unlikely that they would breed as it sounds like the bigger fish isn't nigriventris, does the bigger fish have dark spots? if so it could be Synodontis nigrita.

  • Yes I googled Synodontis nigrita and it looks very much like that. As specially the large fin on the back.

  • These fish oughta be on an episode of NATURE.

  • Are thse your fish?

  • Yes they are, I have a group of eight in my 250 gallon tank ;-)

  • How were you able to post these video on You Tube? I'm curious.

  • YOu go to Upload videos and upload a vid from your computer onto youtube for the world (and Mars) to see

  • Very interesting fish btw.

  • they would look so cool swimming the other way! olso ive seen some in the wild is this natural?

  • My Synodontis nigriventris is JET black...i was just wondering will he change color or will he stay black for his entire life...i like his jet black ninja like appearance.

  • If it is that black then it is highly likely that you dont have nigriventris, there are several species of Synodontis sold as upside down cats but nigriventris is the true upside down cat, you may well have Synodontis nigrita.

  • I am taking a video of it now...watch my video and let me know what kind of cat u think it is...she always swims upside down but she is jet black....even the Synodontis Nigrita is a brownish color with black spots...mine is JET black.

  • Never mind... i found out what it is---- Mystus leucophasis

  • natural selection FAIL!

    but they are really cool...

  • "natural selection FAIL!" ???

  • my mates got a tiny one

    its hyper

it swims like mad upside down

    lol

  • are these upside down catfish good with cories and mollies and swordtails and gourami`s? any thaughts?

  • If they the true upside down then yes but they will eat any baby mollies or swords if they find them, unfortunately quite a lot of shops sell a wide array of other Synodontis catfish under the common name upside down catfish.

  • i dont like my upsidde down catfish he only hides in the rocks of fake decorations

  • Unfortunately that is normal as the vast majority of catfish are nocturnal so will hide during daylight hours.

  • I have a Synodontis eupterus (Featherfin Catfish) I got him by mistake .. My problem is he try's to attack my Albino Pleco and my molly's ... He's a really pissed off fish. Should I go to a total aggressive... ?

  • It is quite common for adult Synodontis eupterus to become aggressive, your best bet would be to rehome it.

  • Question, do these catfish do a good job of keeping the bottom of the tank clean? I've hear that they do...but most aquarium fish just go after the fish food and hardly do what they're supposed to.

  • No fish clean up crap off the bottom of the tank, all fish need to be fed specific fish food. If the bottom of your tank is that dirty use a gravel vac.

  • Cool fishes, I got one earlier today and was wondering what they ate, he did go after the fish food but stayed upside down while eating it.

  • xXEmoGrebXx hey man u might not care wut i think but that means u have flat head catfish maduff01 is right u might want around 8 and they like tons of plants

  • i have one but it stays inn my ship all the time

  • Try getting some more they are a lot happier in groups and tend to be visible a lot more.

  • they need to be in schools of 4 or 5 or there not gonna do much

  • Your catfish and other fishes are wicked.. mine are greenish-brown, they're cool.. only prob is that they don't swim much on back x_o mabee they're just babies(still) anyways I like ur catfish(es):)

  • Thankyou for your comments :)

It would depend if they are true upside down catfish or one of the many other Synodontis species that are commonly referred to as upside down catfish as to how much they actually swim upside down. The only time these don't swim on their backs is when they are feeding.

  • I've got mine two upside down catfish, they are all the time hiding under the rock, is that normal when they are first time shy to come out? I really wanna see them swimming, they are so beautiful and healthy... but it's Ok, I'll just wait:)

  • There are actually 5 of them in there and once settled in they are out and about all the time, they do like moving between peices of bogwood and roots.

  • dude like i said up there they need to be in school of 4 or 5

  • there really cool, i want one

  • cool
