I don't know why people frame lupin for their crimes. They're just asking for him to come foil them.

The first episode suggests that he had a history, particularly with Karst, as that's established right away without any backstory. He may have indeed committed thievery before becoming honest, but no one can say for sure.

Still, it does kinda get ridiculous that Lupin has to do so much just to clear his name.

@ShadowBaofu One of the episodes ($20 million under the Sea) did go a little bit into his background and a possible explanation as to his vendetta against Karst.
