Insel Air is an airline from an island called Curacao (If you take a good look on the plane you'll see it written) St. Martin and Curacao are two sister islands that are part of the Dutch kingdom. I recommend everyone to visit Curacao too, it's a much larger island, more cristal clear beaches, sun, night-life everything, I really recommend visiting Curacao, look it up on google.

Actually, the water is nice and warm. But it's not the best beach for swimming -- there's a steep slope into the water, which creates a bit of an undertow when the waves recede. There are far better beaches on St. Maarten. If you're on Maho Beach, you're there for the planespotting!

Have not yet personally tested the 747 but plan to on my next trip. Hope you actually compared as well, because otherwise all that can be said is that the 747 has more total thrust than the MD80. Says nothing about actual jetblast 50m behind the plane. Personally I would like to experience a GE90 at normal thrust Takeoff ;-)

We takeoff many times with "normal" takeoff thrust, so no FLEX. But not full thrust. That is reserved only for single engine ops. We can derate normally from anywhere between 60 to 90 pax. Above that and we use normal thrust.
