That's the reason Star Fox 2 was cancelled. It was nearly complete, when the Nintendo 64 was coming up, and they decided they didn't want to release it, and have a new system come out right afterwards. So we got Star Fox 64 instead.
Perfected the ROM? The game was essentially complete, It simply needed a translation for English players, and removal of the debug info, and a couple of other cleanups.
The decision to cancel it was based purely on marketing reasons, and not technical reasons. The job these guys did was great for us, but means nothing to Nintendo. If they truly wanted to release it, they could have done all that work themselves.
i think one of the biggest reason it was scrapped was cause of the n64 was comeing soon and that the game nearly pushed the snes to its limits.... LOOKS AWSOME THOUGH!
They scrapped it because they were afraid the impact of the new 3D games from the N64 would be less. They thought the N64 would sell less at the launch because of this game.
actully no they scrapped it cause they knew once the n64 launched they wouldnt play the game much there for not get as many sells out of they game they want
yea if i remember correctly the game was supposed to come out near the time on the n64 launch and the creator didnt want to realese it so he could work on the n64 which for us all was a good/bad job the good of SF 64 being the best game ever the bad is the games made after it....
there's a fixed version wich is now in english with all the fixes

I looked at Star Fox 2 and the N64 version, and honestly the 64 version is starfox 2 with modern graphics and a couple of changes.

If i had 10 grand, i would give it to nintendo to track down the guys who perfected the game rom and work with them to release it for a console.

In pre beta there are places used later in sf64 like sun and also there is lastest beta translated in english.

search the web for the ROM, and play it via emulator. no cartridges of this game exist, and this game is unreleased. this is a beta version.

Hmm you take Starfox Command, add SNES controls and a Super FX look and you pretty much have Star Fox 2 I guess. Looks quite awesome.
