  • GERINA DOVE is FAT and crazy~

  • I have to admit that "Our Tune" often brought a tear to my eye. Some of the stories were so tragic, it made you wonder how people found the strength to overcome such adversities. I really do miss my `Shot` of it, even all these years after. I was a Rep & NEVER got out of the car until it had finished. Radio 2 would be the ideal place now for it to be brought back now. Anyone want to start an on-line petition? I'll DEFINITELY sign it.

  • This is always on, on a moday moring, on my way to college.

  • looked everywhere for this. thank you

  • They've used 4 notes from this in the trailer for Hunger Games, was stuck in my head for ages. :D

  • i wish they uploaded all the people tat were on as my auntie was one of them and would love to listen to it, great show

  • LOL We used to sit in the admin office on 74 Squadron listening to this. Me and my corporal, Jim Kenny. He used to "pretend" to cry at the stories. Great times. Bring back the Phantom please, it was a great fighter.

  • I am sure it was in the 90s not the 80s

  • @cplcab "Our Tune" was very definitely there in the early 1980's ... not sure how long it ran for on Radio1, probably until Radio1 had a DJ shuffle as they do these days.

  • @speedo202 I can remember that we used to have a double art lesson at school in our 4th and 5th years on Thursdays and that our teacher would let us listen to Simon Bates as we worked, that would have been 1991/92 as we left school in 1992.

  • @arcadian78 was that a certain school in Portsmouth and a certain Mr W who wore round glasses? If so I was in that class too! Happy days :-)

  • @gsbluedoor No,I was at a school in Abingdon,Oxon......but nice to know other school kids were listening too,it was a great education.

  • just to remind everyone who enjoyed simon back then, he is NOW on Smooth radio in the uk, and doing Our Tune on Monday and Friday at 8.40am, go to smoothradio.co,uk

  • At the time this music was played, (80's)I was working in a department store, (Now closed) in Church st, Liverpool, every day at 11 it was a rush to get to the prep room, where there was a radio to listen to SB and 'our tune'

  • Thank u Robcod. I will try tuning into listen to the programme one Monday morning as its my day off. Thanks again.

  • I remember going into my Mum's room every morning before Primary School back in the 80's to listen to our tune. I always made sure I had my breakfastin time so that I could listen to it in my Mum's room while she was getting dressed. I used to cry too at the stories, even though I was very young. My Mum has since passed away through illness - but song makes me think of those mornings and they are memories I will always treasure. I wish they would bring this program back to radio.

  • @kraftykitten123

Smooth FM in the Midlands still have the show. Every Monday and Friday morning at 8.40am. I think you can listen on their website too.

  • Why did the bloke or woman in our tune always die.

  • he is on smooth radio now.

  • I've been searching for this for ages remember when i was a kid in the lorry with my dad back in the 80's listening to it, I heard Simon on smooth radio and brought memories back! thank you!

  • OMG! Thank you for posting!! It was the only the other day I heard this music and thought about Simon Bates's Radio slot which I enjoyed immensely. :D

I'm now searching clips of Simon's read-aloud theurapectic voice and have a good old sob.... Lol ..... I simply love it!!

  • I remember listing to this show when I was on the road. Great show !!!!

  • from "Our Tune" to "Sexual Swear Words" good old Simon Bates :)

  • It brings tears to my eyes as well. Nice music, but forever tainted by the mawkish, sentimental, vomitary bilge that Bates spewed out. Ugh.

  • beautiful!

  • listen to this make me think of a special girl in my life and thats my daughter she is my soul my rock my every thing love you lily bear x x x x x

  • its the love theme from romeo and juliet by henry saloman and his orchestra

  • @banditdan66 I remember listening to Simon on Radio One back in the late 80s when I was a 6'4" trucker. The one that really got to me was when he played Mike and The Mechanics 'The Living Years'. I had to pull over and have a good sob it so applied to me and my Dad! I can remember it so vividly, I can still take you to the exact spot where i stopped! Welcome back Simon!!

  • @banditdan66 This version, was originally recorded, EXCLUSIVELY for the BBC, but they have now put it out onto CD, it is the Henry Saloman Orchestra. It was written by Nino Rota, for Franco Zefferelli's 1967 Film starring Michael York, Romeo And Juliet. Andy Williams sung the vocal called, ''A Time For Us'', its SHOULD be on here if you search for it, the song is JUST as moving

  • great memories...cant 4 the life remember the title of this song

  • still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it .... sort of expecting to hear some tear jerk story accompanying it!!

  • Stopped at 11 everyday to listen to this regardless what we were doing

    great memories

  • Gosh!!! Remember the days..... I too used to be out on the road, tuned into Mr Bates! & Yep, some of the letters pulled the Heart~~~~~~~strings.

(Indeed!)& his voice is so recognisable, infact; I'd go as far to say.... He has a verly Sublime tone.

Drifting a little here- for those of you…that may remember? another audible character; Ted Lowe 'snooker - commentator' that mans twang would noddy me off to laa...laa...land.

  • Brings back memories. Thanks.

  • Thank you for uploading this, iv been looking for this version for so so long.... I used to love listening to "our tune" when i was in my teens.

Brings back so so so many memories.

  • thanks for posting been trying to track this tune down for months, cheers lol

  • Thanks for the memories I used to listen to this every morning as we would have our break at work when this came on.

it dont seem that long ago

  • i remember chubby brown doing a take on this, it was so funny

  • trade unions had nothing on bates when it came to stoping the country working especially at 11.00 oclock .

  • Chris Moyles often uses this, as a nod to Bates, when doing a (usually somwhat tongue in cheek) tearjerking speech or story

  • thanks for the feedback :)

  • just bought a book with some of the stories in. I remember listening to Our tune. Some stories were heart breaking. Miss those days.

  • @andysutton1 Can I ask where you got the book? My dad is a big fan of our tune and he listened to it in the 80's/90's too.

  • thanks for uploading the theme from Simon Bates' Our Tune banditdan66

Simon Bates also did a television version of Our Tune which was shown on Sky between 2000 and 2001

  • @Backintime90stv ah i remember that I used to watch it all the time when i was off school!

  • Haven't heard this in years and years and its making me go cold just hearing it again. Some of the stories were so heartbreaking.

  • brings back memorys when we would all stop work as soon as it came on the radio

  • @tweedyere2k7 i was the same, wish we could here them again. wonder if the bbc kept them????

  • Simon Bates took it to Clasic FM, he also moved it to some local stations. Its been copied many times, but his voice and intonation could never be eualled. The music is possibly one of the most haunting and beautiful melodies in the world. Fabulous memories

  • This tune is very memorable. I never knew this was the love theme of Romeo and Juliet. I always thought it had a sad feel to it.

I still have a story from Our Tune on a cassette tape which is a sad story about a mum who's daughter was born with a small head and died on New Years Eve at the age of 2 1/2.

It really was a good show. Shame its not on anymore.

  • wat a top video and great tune. well dun

  • beautiful sound great memories thanks

  • I absolutley love this song..my all time favourite ...makes me cry everytime i hear it but i still love it

  • To the memory of the old radio favouites and one or two people in my life
