Diana and Wolf should have got together. It would have made more since in the story. Riker never wanted a family he wanted a career. Although he has let his career get stalled on the enterprise he is still career minded, and there is nothing wrong with that. Worf on the other hand is much more in touch with his feelings being a Klingon this sounds like the opposite of truth but if you look at all the episodes you will find it to be true. He always respected Troi & toward the end let her know it

(in the theatrical version) The episode "Future Imperfect" shows Riker with a young son and deceased wife. I think he would make a great husband and father. Though, I have no idea why he would always pass up on promotions. Unless he was hoping Picard would die and through some sort of weird succession, Riker became captain of the Enterprise. =)

@BlueberryHearts Yes, Every time Picard has been presumed dead Riker has become captain, and in alternate universes where Picard has died, Riker has been captain. The only time this has not happened was in the "there are four lights" episode, but that was only due to specific diplomatic reasons. Riker has turned down a few Captaincies, there's no reason they wouldn't promote him. If Riker and Picard died, Data would prob be promoted to first officer, and a new Cap, brought on board though.

When it comes to personalities, TNG was very bad compared to Voyager. TNG had Data and Picard, thats it. The only uninteresting characters in Voyager were Chakotay, Kes and maybe Kim. Getting rid of Kes was a very good idea. I think the only reason Chakotay didn't share that fate is that they needed a maki first officer for "political correctness" reasons

He was very cavalier and a ladies man.

He was a foil to Picard who was a very proper, by the books, introverted character.

But Rikers character was never explored properly on the show. He was like a background character who happened to be a main character.

Troi however was a completely bland character with no real point to her.

As the counselor, she only existed as a plot device to explore other characters, or to be a romantic interest.

If you want a first officer with no personality, just look at Chakotay from Voyager. He is the blandest of the bland. He doesnt even have a commanding presence which is bad for a first officer.

I wish Troi was a Fed. Ambassador rather than a shrink. As such she'd be more entangled in 'alien contact' stories. She'd also be vital when the crew was working within (or around) legal protocols. I also wish she was a tad more snarky like her mom, and showed her sexuality a bit more... it would've fit her background better.
