I smoke all the time while filling my gas tank, as gasoline vapor requires an open source of flame to ignite. A spark from static will provide that open ignition source, a lit cigarette will not. A lit cigarette when thrown into a container of gasoline will go out.

That was not caused by a lighting a cigarette. That was caused by his dumb ass friend who touched the area near the gas tank without discharging the static electricity on his body or clothing. Every gas station attendant should be taught how to use a fire extinguisher and they should make them available to customers as well.

and the reason theres a huge fireball and the screen is fully white and u cant see anything is cuz they paniced and pulled the nossle out. that makes the fire even worse. if u ever ignite any kind of fire, never remove the nossle. it will more likely go out on its own or get a fire extinguisher. never ever remove the nossle.

carefully observe both men. the one fueling isnt moving much. the passenger is the one who built up static and at 0:58 is when he touches close enough to the pump nossle it ignites the fire. i cant confirm anything, but i didnt see anyone smoking.

I don't see him lighting a cig at all. I see him bend down a little and static electricity prolly sparked the fumes and then caused it to flash. The idiot should have left the pump in the car but it appears he pulled it out. But no where on that video do you see him put his hands to his face to ignite anything.

There obviously wasn't any cigarette. I agree with those saying guy in white took a lighter out of his pocket and lit it next to the gas nozzle. Another (less likely) possibility is a spark from static when that guy touched the nozzle.

I learned it in science class many years ago, and the teacher actually lit a cigarrette and put it out in a jerry can of gas. I did it at my landscaping job and everyone thought I was nuts.
