when the light is out its not blocking 100 watts. its resistance has gone up so the current it draws has gone down (I=V/R) what I'm trying to say is its not drawing the current any longer. current can not be pushed by a supply it can only be pulled by a load
What's so amazing about a huge piece of aluminum blocking 100W of power? A simple rectifier diode can block more than that and the actual junction in much, much smaller. This is an interesting experiment, but an effective rectifier it is not.
I wonder where you get the 100W figure. If as you claim (and the video tends to prove that), no current is flowing, there is no power and thus 0W.
A real silicon rectifying diode acts like a switch. When forward biased it is a closed switch and current can flow. When reverse biased, it is opened, no current flows and no power is dissipated àt the load. Just like an opened light switch. It makes no difference if there is a 100W bulb or nothing screwed into the socket.
the same happened to me, so I changed the distiled water and hydroxid with tape water and salt and it works, but I think this electrolite is coroding the alluminium.
Have you tried looking at the plates in complete darkness? You will find that the plates are completely covered with a bluish green glow in addition to the tiny flashes. The effect is greatest shortly after the lamp goes completely out.
There is a tendacy to see just the glow with less of the glittery flashes if you use Twenty Mule Team Borax instead of Baking Soda.
You can see an actual photo of the plates glowing by putting borax rectifier on google.
i think those sparks would ignight the HHO gas but you need DC current to make it, i dont think you can use AC, NOT SURE cuz ive only done it with DC but i dont think you can use AC
You can, but people usually don't, because they usually make the cells for their cars, 12v. The only safe and efficient way to use 120v is by using a many plated neutral cell (+NNN...NNN-), each N cell cuts down the voltage. I find that the N plates need a lower amp draw, but produce the SAME (if not greater) amount of Hydrogen as a series cell would draw at a specified amp. N's can significantly reduce wasted heat energy. My 4 cell +NN- , takes ONLY 2amps, and produces a decent amount

what would happen if you just replaced one of the plates with a new piece of aluminum foil

@BENBOOST9 H2O + e = H2 + 1/2(O2)
On the positive plate : 2(Al) + 3/2(O2) = Al2O3 (aluminium oxide)

@BENBOOST9 didnt say it produced oxygen... i said that it forms aluminum oxide,
but it does make a little bit of oxygen too
all the oxygen taht doesnt react with the aluminum come off as the gas
(many tiems more hydrogen than oxygen)

how is this a rectifier....
wat could u use it for?
is just forms an oxide on both plates and pretty much blocks the current

If you put this in a jar with a lid and sealed it, would the sparks even be a problem?

blocks negative cycle passes positive...remember ac has no polarity so is same as ac being fed thru your steel and blocking ac

seriously it's not worth all this trouble a rectifier diode is not that expensive.

oxides are non conductive. are you sure that this is really a diode?
how can you prove that there is diode action and not just bad conductivity. so how can we use this diode?
