  • I have a question of curious nature: are gettato and ricochet the same technique or is there a difference?

  • wow, i got it on my first try after watching this! thanks!

  • OMG! Thank you soooo much!!! i got it perfectly in 10 minutes (fast learner!!). You are amazing!!

  • thank you!

  • Greetings Professor Ehle! What order would you recommend the bow strokes to be taught in...? (after just regular straight bowing, of course)

  • This is great! This is how Roy taught me! We didnt do the etude but I learned it in Scene de Ballet

  • Hi and thanks, Grobanite122549! Give my best to Roy.

  • Fantastic lesson. Ricochet was killing me on the Mendelssohn E minor and the Intro & Rondo Cap. You're helping me figure it out!

  • can you do 49-55? I REALLY need those. Especially 49.

  • Thanks, this helps me out so much. I've been angsting over ricochet bowing forever, and this video is a gift!!

  • Thanks, this helps me out so much. I've been angsting over ricochet bowing forever, and this video is a gift!!

  • thank you so much!! i finally understand how to do this!!!

  • Could you tell me the difference between ricochet bowing and Bariolage bowing?

  • Here is a description I copied from violinomline: 'Bariolage is a French term which means an “odd mixture of colors,” and directs the string player to achieve a contrast in tone colors by playing on different strings. An example of barriolage is when the same note is played, alternating between open strings and stopped strings, or by playing a repeated passage, oscillating between two, three, or four strings. Fingering is often used to indicate bariolage.'

  • @professorV So would the bowing in the first movement of Mendelssohn's E Minor Concerto be Bariolage?

  • Todd i hope your ads are pay per click.

  • That's Great for me. I really like it. It's help me a lot.

  • how would you notate the bowing for this and the springing arpeggios?

  • wow, I can't believe what a difference this video has made to my ricochet bowing. I feel much more in control now. I've no idea what I was doing before, but it was all over the place!! Great teaching, thanks again! :)

  • You are superman!!!:)

  • I'm a beginning Suzuki teacher and I must say these videos are an amazing resource!!

  • First of all thanks a million for your videos, really helped my to develop my bowing techniques.

While I'm able to do single ricochet, I find doing continous ricochet is in entirely different league, I have no idea how to do it, I'm learning ronde des lutins. Any tips to share or if you can do a video explaining this and I'll be really grateful!

  • Bless you bless you bless you =)

  • im a 6 months violinist

    3rd volume on suzuki

i practice the 1st etude of wohlfhart for 4 times(think of 4 hours practice)

and i think im only making 30 percent of it

do you think that wolhfhart is too much for me?

  • thanks for all your videos - from one Todd violin teacher to another ;) My teacher taught me (while learning Tzigane) to slightly turn the forearm clockwise (towards the pinky side of the hand) ever so slightly as you're moving down towards the tip ... it helps keep the longer ricochet bows. sort of what you were saying about 'no index weight'.

  • Go to violin lesson 55 - springing arpeggios. :D

He's really great. I hope he can be my teacher personally.

  • can u make another video on advanced? i think im catching on, but i still need help

    (this is my weakness) thanks!!

  • awesome :)

  • nice teaching but i want to know more about staccato & Ricochet Bowing

i have pass ATCL but i feel i can't playing whit many way.. now i like i just can play some note : [

  • It's very well explained I think, it could almost be the very first lesson for a student after learning how to hold bow and instrument :)

  • You are such a good teacher. I really envy your students. =]

  • hey professorV, can u make another video on more advavced riccochet bowing?

  • Great intro to ricochet bowing. I've been doing this for years without knowing how to teach it. Now I do.

  • yes! this is in there mine starts on an E on my A string. your starts on a B right?

  • Correct!

  • hello, your videos are great, they make all easier ! i have a question, when we let the bow fall on the strings, we do it next to the bridge or the fingerboard ?

sorry for my english i hope you understand me

  • Good question and your Engish is fine, I had no problem understanding what you wrote. Try to land right in the middle, or right between fingerboard and bridge. TE

  • Cool Mr Todd. Nice seeing you again.

  • Hi J.....

    Hope you are doing okay!

  • yup. thanks alot too

  • same here, i've missed your great videos!! i look foward to more!

  • Hey VP95, how have you been? Thanks for the comment.

  • hey i've been progressing and doing very well! ,im doing Wohlfahrt on my own for viola. but im doing book 2 "studies in the 3rd position" i cannot really relate to any of the wohlfhart book no 1. i dont want to ask you to do book 2 because im afraid it might be different on violin. well, anyways consider doing book 2 when you have some spare time please. Thanks!

  • Is it Op. 45 book 2, #31 -#60? Or have they been arranged in a different order? If not, this one (#40) will be in there. The techniqe is the same, just down a 5th.

  • mine is op.45 and its no 37 in mine.

  • Another great video!

You will have to make a playlist with all your Wohlfahrt's etude videos !

    Thanks a lot!

  • Thanks :) These exercises were very successful for me :)

  • Good! Thanks for letting me know.

  • 5*****:)
