i had big plastic cage and it was absolutely fine for my gorgous gerbils, they did chew everything inside it but didnt try to escape, i also has 2 gerbils before that in a wired + plastic cage and they just chew the stuff inside neva wanted to get out either, i now have a hamster but miss my gerbils, might go back to them :) they are a lot friendler and never bit me :D whereas my hamster does, :( my first two looked exactly like yours but cos i was young i callled them brownie and greyie :)

You have such gorgeous gerbils! And they are so friendly.. I love gerbils so much, lol. I have one named Powder, but her cagemate died in August. I am getting 2 gerbil pups to introduce to her though! :) Cute video... but just like one of the other person said, plastic's not good to have, if  they swallow it then it can rip up their intestines... but it seems like you have them in there as a play cage and are watching them, so that's fine.

Do you give them vitamin drops? As in the kind of vitamin drops you put in their water...? Because I know they don't drink much... I'm getting 2 soon, and was debating if that was something really necessary, or if they wouldn't even drink it anyway because of their desert-style... and do they chew on the bars on the cages? I was planning on getting an aquarium (10g) with a tank topper, but the tanktopper does have bars, I think...

We have never given ours any vitamin drops. As long as they get a balanced diet, which they should from their food, I don't thinks it's worthwhile. Yes they chew bars. An aquarium is a good idea, but you will probably need some sort of table or shelf in it to put their food bowl on. You will need a lid that has a bit of weight behind it (and obvioulsy air holes) as they will be able to move a light lid and escape.

Hey, I could give ya some help... I had gerbils for about 4 - 5 years... and i've been through 4 of them...

here some notes... its good that u got a top for ur tank cause thats how I lost one... it was glass and 2 feet high... now u know just how high they can jump

also they HAVE TOO AND WILL naw on everything... because their teeth constantly grow...

also if ur gonna give them something plastic to nibble... watch them cause the might choke...

and don't get don't get one if ur gonna move...

Yes - Just be patient with them and they'll get used to you.  Don't make any sudden movements and let them come to you rather than you chasing them. Try getting them to take little treats out of the palm of your hand. That way they will see that you won't harm them if they come into your hands. Be patient though - it can take a little time.

It's easier to say what they can have to be honest. General dried gerbil/hamster food as a staple diet. For treats try fresh fruit & veg (not lettuce - we give ours apples, strawberries, melon, carrots, tomato) but not too much as the water content can upset their tummies. Sunflower seeds too but not too many because they are fattening. You can get small animal treats (chocolate drops etc) or a tiny bit of cheese they are good in small amounts.

Only use paper based bedding (there is some stuff like Jay cloth material that is ok too. Don't use any bedding that is like cotton wool. They will eat whatever bedding you give them and that stuff can block up in their digestive system (or teeth) and that can obviously be very bad. If you get an exercise wheel get a solid one, not one with spokes or gaps in it anywhere because gerbils can get their tails trapped in any gaps and this will obviously lead to pain and distress for them.

They won't drink very much because they are desert animals and don't need a lot of water. Play with them regularly and show them a lot of attention so they will get used to you and become very tame. If you're not sure of anything else please ask - I'm happy to help :-)

No - they will bite if you upset or hurt them but otherwise no. They may nibble if they get excited whilst your playing with them but this is not the same as a bite as it won't break your skin. If this happens just put them back in their home until they calm down.

No it is definitely not a good idea. Get 2 gerbils and keep them together (same sex siblings are best).

Yes, they should be in pairs. If you have never had them before I would say males because I think they are a little less territorial than females (although saying that female gerbils are really nice too). Make sure your pair is the same sex though!!!! And play with them lots - thats how they become so tame.

No, they are very easy to look after. They need cleaning out 1 or 2 times per week. Feeding every day and changing their water every couple of days. Thats about all you need to do. It is best if you play with them every day as they are very social and they like interacting with people. It is much better to keep 2 or 3 gerbils than just 1, again because they are sociable and like each others company. Best to keep same sex siblings - that should stop them from falling out.

Never get 3! There is a big chance that they will kill eachother. Only keep 2 of them! not 1 not 3 but 2.

only if not properly introduced or if they are female. Males can live in groups of up to four. Females (unless nursing pups) should only be with one other gerbil and NEVER get only one!

Males tend to e much more gentle so I reccomend them to first time owners. Older ones are better two second-hand gerbils make great beginners pets

had them about 18 months by this point. unfortunatly the brown one had to be put to sleep about 6 weeks ago but we still have the grey one. they were by far the most tame of our grebils and very friendly. they are/were such ace little pets
