It was pure luck. The scarf was very big and fluffy. When it went in, enough of it got pulled in that it could only make about 1 turn on the drive shaft before everything jammed up. It was very tight in there, and like I said, the motor and drive had to be disassembled. The whole thing scared the hell out of me, because if the scarf could have kept winding up on the shaft, young Martin would have been badly hurt or even killed. File this video under the 'do not do this' category.

Better to cover the chain and gears.
Of course the rear wheels will still be a hazard for long hair and scarfs.
