Thank you - this is beautiful. If you like sacred music, you might like to hear my classical sacred piano composition Deo Omnis Gloria which is inspired by the Mass (click on my name and go to Part 5 of my video). God bless, Chris
¡Viva Cristo Rey!
It depicts mary in her final moments here on earth. the man holding the "baby" is i think jesus christ. read "Canticles 8:2-3 I will take hold of thee, and bring thee into my mother's house: there thou shalt teach me, and I will give thee a cup of spiced wine and new wine of my pomegranates. His left hand under my head, and his right hand shall embrace me."
His left hand, etc. . .Words of the church to Christ. His left hand, signifying the Old Testament, and his right hand, the New.
..the ikon (picture) on this video is of the " Dormition (Falling asleep) of the "Theotokos" (greek for Mother of God......in easten orthodox tradition Mary died a natural death ...in the picture we see JESUs taking her soul in His arms...
For the sake of precision brother, let me make clear that the Blessed Mother didn't die since she was free of sin by the mercy of God. She was born without original sin; hence, death was not for her as death is our punishment for the sin of Adam and Eve. The Mother of God was taken by Our Lord Jesus into heaven during the so called dormition.
Ave Maria, Mother of God and Mother of the Church!
We eastern orthodox christians love and revere Mary even MORE than roman catholics but there is no evidence in church tradition that Mary was "assumed" into heaven...that was a dogma proclaimed by the catholic church in the 1800's which was the church's choice...Mary was born without sin but so were WE...God is pure Light and would NEVER create anything with sin in it ..We activate sin through our actions...We inherited spiritual infection from our first parents but NOT their guilt...
...the doctrine of "original sin" is actually a protestant concept which would have been rejected by the Earky Church Fathers ..however the church is moving more and more towards an eastern orthodox view by calling baptism now the Rite of Christian Initiation with a catechumenate instead of a rite to "erase" original sin..
You make some interesting points. We share a common love for Mary, altough there are some minor differences. The Assumption of Mary is, as you pointed out, a recent dogma; nonetheless, it's been part of the Chritian tradition for centuries. In the words of His Holiness Pius XII: "The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed in body and soul into heavenly glory".
Ok thise fighting is waht seperated the Church in the beginning. Byzantine or Roman, Western or Eastern, we are Catholics of two different right united under Christ. Let us be His image to others, especially other Catholics.
You spew heresy. Then what is the point of Baptism if we do not inherit the stain of Original Sin? We are born dead in our sins. Just as a baby is born addicted to alcohol if their mother drinks during pregnancy through no fault of it's own; we inherit the guilt of Adam's sin. This is cleary spelled out in St. Pauls epistles and the writings of the early Western Fathers.
the Roman Church is NOW calling baptism "the Rite of Christian Initiation" That is the ORIGINAL Orthodox meaning of Baptism and the roman church is coming around to the original understanding that the Orthodox Church has ALWAYS maintained as well as the Catechumenatel..BTW we are "dead" in the sins we have committed by choice and by the free will that are part of the way God created us in his image and likeness..We inherited from our first parents their infrction NOT their guilt .
..This is why we Orhodox find the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception heretical...ALL christians are conceived without sin...we ACTIVATE sin by choice/ actions and through our own free will...Protestants (and i include roman catholics among ) have deviated from original Orthodox catholic Doctrine...it is anti-thetical to the character of God to create anthing with sin it...that is blasphemous (and protestant)...and called "original sin...and heretical...

The man holding the child can not be Jesus Christ, because He was not present at his Mother's funeral (which the scene depicts).
prinswa 2 years ago
Then who do you think it is? to Me it clearly depicts Christ.
av3rRageGameName 2 years ago
I think it might be Saint Anthony of Padua, who is often depicted with a little child.
Christ would also not be very likely, because his aureola is not very clear/is hard to see.
prinswa 2 years ago
But St. Anthony is bald with a little bit of hair around his cranium. And he doesnt have a beard.
It MIGHT be St. joseph who is also depicted in art holding the Child.
