The last time I heard this song was in a High School Music contest over
half a century ago. Saw Jerome Hines w/ the Met in the 1960s. He was
Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. His performance was superb and
topped w/ a comic hat that had a two foot brim.
In the 80s I saw a Don Carlos w/ Hines and Cesare Siepi. The were
both in their 60s. Sounded great. The lower voices last longer than
sopranos and tenors.
