Check out what Leonard Cohen says in his song "The Future." " Kill another fetus now, we don't like children anyhow. I've seen the future, baby, and it's murder. "
I can remember my mom playing this song, it takes me back. to this day this song remains one of may favs it makes you think. and yes it may have caused a lot of problems but thats why we have the freedom of speach. I am not agenst abortion nor am i for it.
If you were female you would know what the song is about, I happen to be male. But I have listened to many female talk about all the thoughts that ramble through their minds over the course of a pregnancy. So many things happen to a woman during a child development that keeps them in wonder, I know that I could never grasp the whole idea but I believe what women tell me that it is an enigma wrapped inside of a conundrum of emotions held together by curiosity.
I do not really care about whether the song was written by a male, female, or a hermaphrodite for that matter. Seals and Crofts did nothing but cause trouble by releasing a song with such controversial lyrics. Also, Naynay, it would be helpful if you learned to spell the words "precious" and "biological." Spelling isn't your strong point, huh? How did you help your precious kids with their homework? It was an easy choice in 1972? Roe vs. Wade didn't take place until 1973.
Nothing but cause trouble, eh? For one thing, this song isn't even about abortion. But even so, you wouldn't complain if it was for "a woman's choice."
I love this song and you offered to send a copy of which you say you copied to cd. You keep talking about it but you don't come through. Please don't waste peoples time and get hopes up.
This is one of the best songs ever put out
and a lot of people are looking for it.
Either put up or shut up.
I ask once before and I ask now. What would you want for a copy or is it free?
I was barely pregnant when this song was released, actually didn't know it yet. I chose life for my child (wouldn't have considered anything else) and she is a beautiful woman, 34 years old with 3 beautiful children of her own.

I'm going to make sure I get rid of my Seals and Crofts albums now. I didn't know this song existed before, and I used to like them. I'll give them to Goodwill or something. I'm sorry, but this song really sucks, especially the part which says, "please bear the pain." A hetero pro-life male could not understand what it takes for a woman to make a decision like this.
If you don't want your S & C albums, Ill take them. I know what it is to make that decision. I was 17 when I had my first child in 1972 and believe me it was an easy choice. The life of any child is pressious. I am now 54 and married with 4 children and 15 bialogical grandchildren plus 7 more and they are all special to me.
OOPS forgot to say; the lyrics were written by a woman not a man. Lana Bogan wrote the lyrics and James Seals wrote the music in 1974. The year I gave birth to my second blessing.
When once you find something that pleases you then you can't filter out what you don't like without throwing everything out is a sign of 2 dimensional thinking. Meaning you justify everything on sociopolitical ideology or personally debilitating psychological anomaly. I like rock music but not all rock music some times that applies to the same group in that they take leave of what I like to hear. But doesn't mean that I dump everything. It is not bad to like part of some and not the whole. WWPFY
In '74 I was marching on the capital building in downtown Columbus, Ohio with the Right To Lifers... we were holding hands and playing this song, it was freezing and ice was falling from the sky but we didn't care. Then, the CPD stormed in and carried us all off in their white vans where I spent the weekend. Ah yes, memories.
This tune reached #66 on Billboard's hot 100 in the spring of 1974. I don't remember ever hearing it on the radio, although the follow-up, "The King Of Nothing" got some airplay here in Los Angeles. It didn't do much better nationwide though, stalling at #60.
This is a fine example of why YouTube should exist. I first owned a copy of Unborn Child on an eight-track it went bad and I haven't found
it anywhere since. I can guess that one poster above got it right, Seals & Crofts were ostracized because they dared to speak of an unborn child in the positive as possibly a sentient human being.
They got a lot of slack for releasing this song but still its a great song with a great message but most importantly they write this song from the heart and its what they believed in, I would have written a song like this as well
Actually, the entertainment industry made sure their careers were cut short over this release. How many prolifers are there in Hollywood, etc., anyway? Gotta save the lobsters, whales, though. 40 Days for Life!!!
Thats the truth, if a band/artist wrote a song like this today they would be tarred, feathered and be forced to make an "apology" Yet people are praised and honored for sticking up for animal rights.
Actually, this was just the 5th of S&C's 12 songs that made into the "Top 100" charts! Two years after Unborn Child's release, S&C had their biggest hit. "Get Closer" on the charts for 26 weeks and made it up to #6. So the song "Unborn Child" didn't end their career.
Kudos to those two for saying it like it is. They had the balls to admit it wasn't a tyrannosaurus but a BABY in the womb at risk of their careers.

stop talking about abortion and murder...it is a song
emmtampa 2 years ago
@emmtampa It's a song about murder.
swlabr21 5 months ago
@swlabr21 You're right. It's about the murder of unborn children.
"Oh, little baby, you’ll never cry,
Nor will you hear a sweet lullaby.
Oh, unborn child, if you only knew
Just what your momma is plannin’ to do.
Oh tiny bud that grows in the womb
only to be crushed before you can bloom
Momma stop! Turn around, go back, think it over!"

@emmtampa Thank you. Someone had to say it.

You criticize a woman who didn't murder her children because she didn't spell two words right? That's called straining a gnat and swallowing a camel.

Crouching in silence, hidden behind a dumpster
In back of the Abortion Clinic
I am so patient
Protesters nearby wave signs
that say some shit about Jesus
If they could only see my bedroom wall
and gaze upon a taxidermized fetus
A fetus, oh yeah!

by the duo. Thanks to you that this rare and hard to find title track from that album is posted.
