In the sense of their "humanity" they are. They are just zombie slaves to the queen. The borg are a metaphor for our consumerist and obedience society.

@ridiai99 actually, the borg represent the federation at its greatest extreme. think about it: their goal of "assimilation" is to "better themselves" for the good of the collective, as the federation does all things for what they perceive to be the betterment of themselves.

that is why the federation fears them so much. not because they are "unbeatable" even though they are beaten in every episode they appear in, but because they represent what the federation might have been/what it could be

@ridiai99 if you've really paid attention to star trek, you'd know that the ferengi are the metaphor for consumerism, and they quite plainly state that there is no "arbitrary obedience" in the federation's utopia
