  • By far the most insulting of a great song by one of the best bands. Metallica is the little wayne of metal. Hey guys lets start a rock band and get successful and sell out then cut our hair off and lather it with mousse and hair gel and sing like shit.

  • Interesting interpretation, considering it's acoustic... Think it would be nice to see what they'd do if they had acces to the full range of resources of a studio for a cover of this.

  • gg

well done metallica. elric and BOC would be proud

  • man. they used to be able to hit notes. no, just.... just no

  • What you guys don't understand is that this is an acoustic TRIBUTE to a great song. And for what it's worth, I love it! It's much more simplyfied due to the instrumental limitations.

  • I like IT,SO FKIN WHAT

  • "You see me now, a veteran...of a thousand psychic wars......Yeeaahheeh!"

  • where can i get whole audio from Bridge School Benefit concert? it's awesome!

  • interesting to hear but they fail to capture the true feeling of the original! their Budgie covers were better! just my opinion!

  • the original is better.

  • -shakes head-

  • Metallica fucked up a classic, they could have done so much more with this song.

  • Fuck them... they arent cool anymore

  • @abousloppy they sold out

and if theres one thing rockers hate, its sell outs.

  • @jaxjace1 yeah but arent all rockers sell outs at one point?

  • @abousloppy Lol right?

  • The first record I ever played on my Fisher Price was Spectres and I approve of this. Metallica showing respect to the gods is nice if you ask me.

  • k ascooooooo

  • ewwwww!!! There's nothing like the original song

  • TAROT VERSION IS THE BEST!!!

  • way back in the day metallica mentioned BOC as one of there influences......i like it..!!

  • Hetfields shitty voice didn't screw up this song as bad as I thought it would.

  • wow thanks metallica, NOT

  • well i was massive metal licker fan around 86 to 89,black album killed it for me really.love boc.just seen this and thought, oh no don't do it especially as it's keyboard laden originally.surprised how good it is.well done attempting it without keys.great track not destroyed.

  • Ok while I dont care for Mettalica (mainly because of that whining bitch Lars, but also because I really didnt care for much of their stuff after cliff died) It is done acoustically and isn't that bad. If you want a great version of this song done as a cover look up TAROT - Veteran of the psychic wars live Now this is a very well done version of the song.

  • much better than boc in every way..tallica rules all mfkr

  • these turncoat twats couldn't EVER come near blue oyster cult.

and aren't they infringing copyrights? i thought they were insanely against that.

    pile of crap band.

  • @Amalthias: you spelt bleek wrong spanner!!!!

  • Metallica doesn't do this song justice.

  • sounds like shit... the intro... god metalica, why do u fail like this? this is an easy song.

  • omg a minute into it, it sucks already...blech....

  • this wsa originally done by blue oyster cult, and he totally sounded diffrent. sounded nothing like it. fail metalica. havent seen you fail this bad ever befor.

  • @MrOpensaysme123 You said Metallica's version of this sounds nothing like the original? "fail metalica."

It's not supposed to sound exactly like it, what'd be the point in that?

This is Metallica's interpretation of a great song, and the outcome also happens to be great. Maybe not as prestigious the BOC's but is sure a damn sight better then a lot of bands music these days. Be it popular or indie music, Metallica is still above par than nearly all bands with this song.

  • MrOpen - Lars rushes everything, and the song relies on deccelerato and being laid back and relaxed to find that "trudging through the sands" kind of marching groove it has. This version has as much an understanding of the original and what makes it powerful as something like Rob Zombie's misdirected and dunderheaded reading of the HALLOWEEN franchise.

James sounds warbly here too. As someone who saw M with Cliff annnd Mustaine...no. This is indeed "FAIL" as all their recent shit is.

  • @shootitinthehead Back in days of Dave and Cliff I doubt James could sing this at all. But maybe I'm wrong.

  • @shootitinthehead

Did you see them in San Fran?

  • @Bookstop1337

many, many times. I saw them fill in for Cirith Ungol at the Stone, then come back for a Metal Monday at the Old Waldorf in SF with Laaz Rockit, then they moved up so Cliff would join, and played the Stone again. That was the end of Mustaine pretty much too. I saw the whole thrash thing happen and was in one of the ten or so main thrash bands from the area.

  • @shootitinthehead

Wow, you're a part of musical history!.... hey have you ever heard of a site called Reddit? They have a section on the site called the IAmA section where people basically submit questions and interesting people like yourself answer them. Would you consider doing one?

  • @Bookstop1337

I'm a writer by trade now, and I am working on a book about those days, told through the eyes of the kid I used to be. But yeah, I guess. You can listen to me old band here on youtube as well. Just search for Sacrilege BC. Enjoy. :)

  • I had never heard of the original before this. I think the vocals could have been a little (lot) better in some spots but overall I like it. I listened to the original immediately after listening to this and I can just relate to this version better as I like the instrumentals much, much better in this version. I wouldn't consider this a cover, more of a re-visioning. This is the way metallica has always done their "covers". Some work, some don't but that's to be determined by each listener.

  • The guitar here is awesome, and I think it would be cool if someone with technical wizardry could blend Metallica's instruments with BOC's singing. I like Metallica, but they don't seem to be able to sing well enough for this song, just shout in tune, and that doesn't do it for me.

  • people judge this version too much, I don't get it. It's not meant to be better than blue oyster cults version. It's metallicas. Judge it for what it is. It's not bad. I think it's pretty good actually. It's not like we're listening to lulu.

  • this song in general was amazing, the remake was amazing, all in all i could listen to either version and love it

  • bad. just bad. leave well enough alone. leave BETTER alone.

  • metaaaaAAAaal.. hahahaha! XD

  • Fuck this is a shit Cover!! Sounds like a couple of 15 year olds in there garage!! XD

  • jesus chrysler that was horrible.

  • NIRVANA unpluged?

  • BWAHA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

  • James sounds JUST like Eric Bloom!

  • @elevatorsfan

are you kidding ? i hope so....

  • Does the song exist on cd?

  • @MultiJacko No

  • Yes - [2007] Live At The Bridge School Benefit

  • @MultiJacko type in zamzar and use the mp3 converter and there you go. you can put it on your ipod or cd

  • @MultiJacko It does now, I just put it on one...

  • Fantastic cover. I think it brings this fine song into a very, important, contemporary light. I think the acoustic and 'war dance' rhythm section approach really add a lot to it. Gotta say, I prefer what the Metallica boys have done with this song - and I listened the crap out of the original BOC version during my first year university in '81.

  • nice bass

  • Where the hell did you find this?

  • kick out the jams....

  • How to ruin a legendary song, leave it to Shitallica

  • lars sucks...

  • Geez, they cover so much BOC songs.

  • This version is far less epic than the original. Metallica sucks, get a clue.

  • @c0rnp0p5 just another retarded troll keep your shity opinions to yourself

  • @IH8CREEPERS It's not trolling if it's true, oh you Metallica fans and your inability to think clearly.

  • @c0rnp0p5 oh you trolls and your inability to realize that opinions aren't facts. get a clue.

  • @metallidethN9ne What an original comment, I can't figure out for the life of me where you got your sentence structure from, and you may want to research what an opinion is because they can just as easily be facts, perhaps you should go back to the third grade.

  • @c0rnp0p5 perhaps you should get off of metallica videos and get back to the third grade yourself you ignorant imbecile and learn that, "Metallica sucks," isn't a fact, its an opinion.

  • @metallidethN9ne Well you see, I originally watched the Blue Öyster Cult version of this song, this happened to be a related video, and knowing how bad Metallica usually is, I just had to know how badly they disgraced this song, that is my reason for being here. And come on, Metallica sucks, nobody wants to hear James yell into the mic for 5 straight minutes. Hammett has a very disappointing sound, the guitar is not supposed to sound like someone dying.

  • @c0rnp0p5 Metallica is supposedly currently the second most selling band after Beatles. So... probably much of the planet wouldn't agree with you... But Kirk is horrible, that is true.

  • @dante4d That's because there are a lot of people in the world that don't know what music is.

  • @c0rnp0p5 Correction: Metallica sucks NOW. Should've heard em before they all went in Detox lol. It just went downhill after Black album

  • that was fucking amazing!thanx man for uploading!

  • Song is perfect for James

  • @ Sven: Yeah, it is. It was written by Eric Bloom, Donald Rosear, and Michael Moorcock of Blue Oyster Cult in 1981. Fire of Unknown origin Album.

  • @BOC313 Well, Michael Moorcock wasn't in Blue Oyster Cult, he was the author of the books this song is meant to represent.

  • Innit another Michael Moorcock written number?

  • Well, that's real good, but just don't compare it with BOC. BOC is the best. Ever.

  • @k12274 I gotta tell ya, i LOVE BOC, and ive found numerous covers, check this song out by Tarot, f ' ing awesome, BOC is just one of those bands that all of their songs are great originals, plus sound great as covers as well

  • @k12274 i think that tarot played it better even from boc

  • how can u not like this song ftw!!

103 people are on the wrong page

  • @metalfreak1023 I think we all know the answer to that

  • @Bojoe777NaBl posers? or what?

  • Great cover but ithink his guitar s a bit out of tune

  • I enjoyed Depeche Mode's version of Personal Jesus, but I also enjoyed Manson's version of Personal Jesus. I listened to both with an open mind, and I never once said "Oh they fucked up the original" or "Manson did it better" I said "Wow these are both good songs, the differences in their versions make it unique" is it really so hard to not be a closed minded garbage dribbling cock sucker?

  • Someone give me an intelligible reason as to why you feel this song is garbage and I will offer my reply, but until someone can honestly say why they dislike this song without saying "I like Blue Oyster Cult" or "they destroyed the original" then go ahead and offer me your justification. All you're doing is basing this off of the original song and by doing so you're refusing to listen with an open mind. =/

  • @kbreeding69 I agree 100% with you on that.

  • @WeaponXSigma Thank you very much for the support.

  • @kbreeding69 I hear ya ! , Bro!!!!

  • @kbreeding69 well what this lack is the Vocal power . yes, the vocals are not up to level. if they tried this for the first time it's better than many could. but really, you could expect band of their level to play songs WELL. they couldnt exceed BOC but really, they could atleast attempt to sound good. the part - 'it's time we had some leave" or the "don't let these shakes go on" come on, sounds like someones on deathbed trying to sing.

  • @kbreeding69 i dont dislike this song and i enjoy both versions. the only problem i have with it is that i dont think the Metallica members put enough feeling into it, it seems almost as if they didnt really want to sing this, ive heard much better metallica covers. take their turn the page cover, that was excellently done with just as much if not more emotion than the origional. they did not put their soul into this. also i think it sounds much better with electric guitar,

  • @Shitmasterist but that is just personal opinion and can be argued

  • @kbreeding69 Here's a valid reason: James is a second rate singer and this is painful.

  • Why the fuck do you have to talk shit if you're going to refuse to listen to the song? No one cares about your opinion anyways if all you have to say is "garbage, this song is garbage" it really pisses people off that enjoy the song and all you're trying to do is reap friends that sympathise with your whiny asses.

  • You know what? Fuck all you guys that have shit to talk on this song... I love Blue Oyster Cult too but guess what? I like this fucking song, I look at it as homage to a great band and you're all just being like "Oooo Boo-Hoo They Are Mimicking Blue Oyster Cult" well do you really know how many fucking songs of Metallica that others played? It still is going on... There are people who never heard of Personal Jesus before Manson played it. Those of you verbally refusing to listen, why you here?

  • Yes, because metallica wishes they had talent

  • @PurpleSkyStudio And they were one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • i like the guitarr in the beginning

  • An acoustic version ?

This is really bad if you know the original.

If you don't know the original it ain't nothing special.

But this is one of the worst covers that I know, especially from a band like Metallica you might expect that they put some spice in the song.

For heaven's sake it is a song about war and mental dispair.

This sounds like picking flowers in the garden while wistling a merry tune.

  • @reverb67 I couldn't agree with you more! I refuse to listen to this.

  • not tryin to say anything but ive loved this song since i was able to remember liking things the drums in ths are so weak it sounds like a bar band that is learning something new no way you can tell me that fucking METALLICA couldnt play this with power. its like they knew the song was awesome and just thought people would think it was cool cause THEY were singing it. i dont think they cared about effort is all

  • by far one of the best covers

  • It's been a long time since I wait to hear this from METALLICA!

    YEAH!

  • @CAJman01 alright well that is your opinion which you are entitled to. I didn't go into 'philosopher' mode I was just proving my point with facts which you didn't do. You backed your opinion up with criticisms. If you don't like something that much then don't listen to it. Problem solved.

  • sounds like its about dave mustaines addictions, covered by these guys, hahahahaha. good guitar.

  • Great song, great version of a great song.

  • decent enough. weird song to do acoustic though.

  • EPIC!

  • well kudos for metallica for trying it, but not quite like BOC

  • this is bad.

  • This song sounds fine to me. I never heard the original tho.

  • @Metallicaguy91 Of course you're going to like it METALLICAguy91. Everyone dissing this song has it right. This isn't the kind of song that should be covered on acoustic instruments or by metallica. Not even anywhere NEAR the original.

  • @CAJman01 so what? who said it needs to be? Metallica has the passion for good music so they covered this song because they have respect for BOC. The point of a cover is to let YOUR band have it's own style not let it be a replica of the original. what would be the point? And yeah I have Metallica in my username but that doesn't mean I am biased. I didn't like the st. anger/load albums much at all.

  • @CAJman01 and another thing the garage inc album were full of covers that didn't sound like the originals. Metallica made them in their own style and everyone loved it. open thy mind. its not good to be closed minded

  • @Metallicaguy91 Alright bud, the point i was trying to make was why cover a song if you're going to do a shit job? metallica's a shit band full of arrogant pricks, enough said. no need to go into philosopher mode. fuck, if they did a good job i wouldn't give a shit what band it was.

  • @Metallicaguy91 So, the only way to be open minded is to eat up all of Metallica's garbage?

  • @Metallicaguy91 Being open minded, implies that you have to be critical where criticism is due. Metallica fanboys accept everything they do. Even if it's shit, they still manage to convince themselves that what Metallica is doing is great. Saying stuff like "Yeah, but it's a different style, so it's good".

Metallica didn't re-interpret the song in their own style on Garage Inc, they just made them heavier, and more redneck'ish. In most cases abolished the atmosphere of the original.

  • @sinbysin666 I think this is a good song. I am not one of them Metallica fan boys that likes everything they put out like you said. this new project with Lou reed is terrible and quite honestly never should have done it. nor have i liked the load/st anger albums. I just think that this is a good song just for doing what they wanted with it. a cover isn't meant to be an exact duplicate of the original. it is meant to praise a band by making a song their OWN style. if you don't like it, piss off

  • @Metallicaguy91 its not a great cover man, its ok

  • @psychyard It's your opinion, there are people who do like it. it's not a crime.

  • What the hell is this crap??????

  • they would have a respectable legacy if they had stopped after justice.

  • This is just murder!

  • Well, the voice sucked but the music is ok.

This coming from a metallica hater

  • So Metallica covers the song by BOC that Coldplay ripped off from BOC. Anyone have any original talent these days? Geez Louise, omfg!

  • It's pretty weird, but in a good way, say wtf u want about if you liked it or not, someone like it someone don't.. so stop cry so much fking morons.

  • james, please go get a surgery for your cracking voice.

  • Thank you Metallica for butchering a really good song...wasn't it enough to bring out bad music yourself? New depths have been reached...and they shouldn't have been reached.

  • @EyesOfGehenna Open your mind, and shut your mouth.

  • @aloys69 thanks for the cliche...I listened to it and I think it's terrible and I have a right to voice that opinion here. Having an open mind doesn't require liking everything...that's a misinterpretation that too many people make in my opinion.

  • @EyesOfGehenna That is not an opinion you tell us, that is insulting that other people like, millions around the world, might like. So no, you're not open minded

  • @aloys69 I am insulted by this version of the song. It's horrible. Deal with it.

  • james is a fucking homo. quit doing and DENUDING BOC songs. cunt.

  • @malinguist I agree with your general emotion, but you gotta see the irony in calling him a homo and a cunt in the same post....lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn, James sounds like am amateur on this song. It sucks. One of the worst things I've heard Metallica do.

  • Don't hate me, but i like this version more than BOC, but still, both of them are great.

  • @TheOrionification i'm sure this version of the song helps you buttfuck better than the original

  • Covers dont have to be all in the same style as the original. Thats what make covers so great, it gives the chance for a artist to spice things up and give a song their own little style of their own, thats a true cover.

  • I hate to agree...Metallica should never have done this. First time ever used this for any Metallica song...but... epic fail.

  • no no sorry but no

  • As a fan of BOC & Metallica, I don't like the damn keyboard running all the time. I like the general theme but the keyboard and beat makes me wanna stop the music but men, I love the lyrics most of all ! Its an original song from one the best and greatest rock bands from 70's and its really a great one !!! But did u really expect Tallica play it like the original ? The beauty of cover is to be different ! Then U can listen and like both of them ! Like I do !

  • WHATS RONG WIT YALL???!!!!! DIS SONG IS AWESOME!!!! DONT GET MAD BECAUSE METALLICA MADE Blue Oyster Cult's SONG BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL AAAAAAGGGGAAAIIINNN!

  • @sonzato NOTHING BEATS THE ORIGINAL

  • @highspeedheadbanger All along the watchtower of jimi hendrix is WAAAYYY better then bob dylan's. Fact

  • @sonzato its good but its not better

  • @sgtkilgore45 i can live wit dat i guess.

  • weeeell......let's just say that this is an acoustic cover.played in a school.by two guitars, one bass and drums.not with tons of distortion on the guitars and triggers on the drums.with a shitty producer.never ment to be released.if it was to be released, maybe it would sound better than the original.let's say....like astronomy did.basically the photo on 4.35 possibly is the answer to your arguements.

  • No. Just... NO.

  • I liked their Astronomy cover. Not too keen on this one, I'm afraid.

  • Wow...bad.

  • Blue Oyster Cult 4ever

  • Sorry Metallica but B.O.C blows you away and TAROT did a killer cover of this song!

  • Well yeehaw sounds all countryish!

  • Blue Oyster Cult should find these guys and smack them for shitting all over their EPIC song... If you're gonna cover a song, at least do it WELL....

  • wow, I can't beleive how bad this is! Isn't this freakin metallica? sounds like they learned this song 5 minutes before playing it from some incorrect internet tabs!! The singing? absolutely terrible!! Hetfield must of been sick or something... sheesh!

  • GREAT METALLICA!THE GREATEST COVER BAND/BAND IN THE WORLD!

  • It doesn't matter who sings this song. They have the heart it shines through.

  • @agentdas Not often you can read something like this. I thought this was pretty accurate.

  • 15 years of awesome followed by 12 years of suck i think metallica should retire while i still like them

  • I thought this would be really good... its not BAD but its just not good

  • merdallica...

  • BaD NEWS!

  • Yes, this cover doesn't do BOC justice but at least they have some taste.

  • damn man this cover freakin rocks !! :D can you imagine if this wasnt accoustic and on garage days :D

  • hey Metallica wow you all kick ass , but u really need ur asses kicked for fucken that song up . an i hope u paid BOC they plenty since u all bitched so much about the free music an the net .

  • Metallica should not cover any bands.
